A Leader's Questions...

Posted 2022-11-02 14:28:45
Tenno stops drawing in the mud with a stick, turns and walks firmly to the the 2 leaders. "Excuse me one moment." He says, looking into the airglow's eyes. Tenno's eyes started to wonder until they locked on to Abbigale.
Tenno started walking to the lead wolf, standing proud with her wings folded. Tenno speaking while he was walking, started loud enough for most leads to here. "ABBIGALE! You must be a young lead, so let me explain something to you. Lead wolves are different. It takes something special to be the leader of a pack, you have something more than the regular scouts and pupsitters, some of us even have wings or horns. One thing that makes us lead wolves different than our subjects is that fact that we can civilly meet like this and discuss issues with our packs. We can resolve conflict or start war, but you will never see a lead wolf attack another lead. Even if you hate a pack and all the scum in it, you still show respect to the lead wolf who is your equal. As leads we have all made the choices we have had to make, we get tough or soft depending on how things go and every lead wolf will respect you for the simple fact that you are a lead, you became something more, so we better act like something more. There is honor amongst theives. There is trust among royalty. If we cannot be civil, truthful, and respectful how can we expect anyone following us to show any of these virtues. How can any leads have respect for you when you have none for others?" Tenno was talking much more quiet now, his eyes conveying his concern and genuine want to help.
"Not noticing or not caring that you hit ANOTHER LEAD wolf with your wings does not show power or strength, to me it shows ignorance and cowardice. If you hit one of my scouts in the face. I would tell them, 'there goes a lead wolf, next time stay out of their way.' but when it comes to this circle of lead wolves, I only have respect. There is a reason why none of our other pack members are allowed here- because we are something more and we need to act like it.
Tenno looks back at the airglow, "I'm sorry" he turned fully around, "I apologize for how this wolf" he pointed his nose to abbigale, "has behaved and I'm sorry you were disrespected by getting hit in the face by a wolves body part."
Tenno kept walking past the airglow, "come here and look at this" the airglow stopped next to tenno and was amazed to see a massive map drawn in the mud. Tenno was smiling from ear to ear at this point, "I'm almost done! Abbigale walked over my drawing, I don't even think she noticed, so I have a little more work before I can finish it and tell everyone to come look."

"But in the mean time, let me show you how I arranged my pack!" Tenno started at the top of his drawing. "As you can see here, we live on and in a mountain. At the very top is the apex forest. This includes the Erebus meadow and also includes Fuji's tree. Each one of my caves is broken into a section and then caves. So on the eastern cliff face, we have the crystal cave entrance. A cave packed with crystals of all colors and shapes, this room gives you a warm glowing feeling. If you continue deeper through the cave it starts changing to only blue, this is where the sapphire gem cave starts." Tenno stretched his mouth yawning widely. "Sorry I've been talking a lot and my jaw is getting tired." His eyes widened, "AH! Last thing, none of my hunters want to live in the mountain, so they live under ground at the base of the mountain, in the thunder fields. It's a place where lightning strikes constantly and continuously. But they like it, says dodging lighting bolts is good pup training and the loud sounds make the wolves less jumpy over time, they handle loud noises better."
Tenno sat down, "I have seen into your territory, your cave organization is on point. You can tell a well kept pack, by how it's lead organizes it's subordinate. I salute you on your work."
Tenno got a look like he just remember something important. "I was going to ask! I had a wolf recently wonder into my pack, they said their original pack had sent them away. They are being allowed to stay, but also told me they are okay leaving to another pack and told me they can find their way back to the original pack, I said your a super scout! He just smiled and replied I'm a traveler, what ever that means! Hahaha" Tenno was about to lay down then asked,
" Does anyone have one of these travelers? And if so what makes them special? What makes them note worthy? Or if you have seen these wolves and have barred thier entry into your territory, how come? Why do you dislike or like this concept?"

Tenno yawned one more time, teeth showing shinny in the moon light. He laid all the way down, laid his head to the side and curled his tail over his nose and eyes.  -did he already fall asleep? You wonder to yourself-

Blythe must not have realized that when he started paying attention again the airglow was huddled to the side with a lead named Tenno.
Tenno realizing this stood up and walked to Blythe, I apologize for speaking while you were, you have a ton of wolves. None in my pack is an enemy. We chase those who work against the pack quickly. Even a young untrained pup is better than a mentor with negative traits. It would spread through the pack too quickly. do you have a traveler? And in your southern accent can you say waffle? Not sure what it is or what it means but hearing that in a southern accent is great."

owl who nests in pine watches the throng of gathering leaders through narrowed golden eyes, crouching near the back of the crowd. she wasn't one for talk, and she certainly wasn't going to interact with a bunch of outside wolves, especially when they could invade her territory at any moment. She had to be watchful. Careful. Cautious. They could betray her right now. Or maybe they had their packs waiting behind the brush, ready to kill them all at a moments notice. She growled to herself.

Tenno's speech made Blythe begin to doubt his own capabilities as a leader, but he'd never admit such a thing. Nonetheless, he gained a newfound respect for the other male, and he couldn't help but watch Tenno move across the clearing as the Leader spoke about manners and etiquette.

Then Tenno was standing in front of him, apologizing and answering his question. Blythe hadn't really expected that, nor had he expected what had been asked of him. "I.. A whut?" He rose to his paws and tilted his head. His left ear folded back in uncertainty as he attempted to fulfill what he decided was Tenno's demand. "Wh.. wahffle? I- No, I ain't got a traveler but I ain't opposed to lettin' one of my wolves go off an' do that if that's what they.. want."

Satisfied, and with the small mishap resolved, Blythe turned to a female crouched near the back of the gathering- that Leader hiding away and trying to go unnoticed only caught his attention more. So he trotted over to Owl, tail high and waving through the air out behind him like a black flag. "Tell us about the first wolf you ever killed. Don't say you haven' I won't believe you- unless you really haven' then just come up with a story, entertain me. Were you out explorin' and the wolf just happened to cross your path, or were you defendin' your territory?" Blythe lowered his head, and his bright eyes took on a darker curiosity from where he loomed over the much smaller female. Though his question was intended for Owl, it was open for any other Leader to cut in and answer themselves.

Lightning Crown stepped forward, frustrated at the chaos, and glaring at the other leads. She shook her head, clearing her emotions. This was a place of allies, not a place to make enemies.
She answered Tenno's question quickly, but stepped back when another lead spoke first. Lightning Crown listened to his question, before answering.
"The first wolf I killed with my own paws?" She shifted uncomfortably. "I try to avoid violence when necessary, but while I was still a young lead, I got in a scuffle with a rogue wolf who came into our camp during the night and tried to make off with one of the pups. It got messy, and I pushed him into the river. I think he hit his head or something, but he didn't come back up again."
"Anyway, my question for the next lead is: Are there any magical or supernatural beings your pack believes in? Gods, spirits, or anything not of this world?"

Owl scowled at the extroverted leader, getting to her paws and flicking back her shredded grey ears. "I'm no brute, unlike you foxhearts. I've killed before, but only defending my pack." The grey-brown she-wolf trembled as she recalled the dark memory. "My father, who had led a pack of foxes into the camp with the intent of genocide." She snarled. "I showed no mercy."

Lustre was very much considering taking his leave. All this talk of killing was stressing him out. It concerned him, worried him. His fur prickled uneasily as he watched the other leaders. "Aha... well, my pack believes in and follows the guidance of the Sun," Lustre answered as confidently as he could. "Without it, nothing would survive. The cold, bitter winters would become eternal. No creature, big or small, could outlast the endless night. So, I thank the Sun for allowing life to grow in these lands."

The silver wolf decided that was enough of an explanation. "To steer this conversation sharply away from the topic of death... What little thing is your pack known for? As an example, my pack is known for valuing flowers and incorporating them into our traditions. We believe them to represent love and gratitude," Lustre would say with a strained smile.

Kaduki had been sitting near the back, listening to the other leaders for a while and waiting for an opportunity to speak. Her ears picked up at the leader Lustre's question, thinking of her own packs connection with flowers so she padded toward the front and slowly began.

"Hmmm..a thing my pack is known for? Well we have a strong connection with vultures and many other carrion birds, it was said that long ago they taught members of our pack to see living things soul bouquet. Flowers that could show you what season one was in or in death show you one's life."

She tilted her head to one side and laughed a little,"If that makes any sense. I never quite got it as the power has been lost to us but I still remember the elders stories about hunting deer dappled with maple leaves and chrysanthemums as a pup. We also observe six seasons instead of the usual four and they're marked by certain flowers blooming."

She sat back feeling slightly anxious she might've talked too long and decided to finish there. "How do you name your wolves?" The question had always interested Kadzuki as her own pack took the naming of a wolf very seriously. "Do you have a theme? And do you care when a pup is named? I've heard rumors of pups being taken because they're not named a birth!" The thought scared her but she shook the thought away and gazed at the other leaders around her.

Sydel yawned widely then stood and shook out her amber coat before trotting over to the group of Leads. Listening to Kaduki's story of her pack's lore bringing a wistful smile to her face, someday when her pack had histories of their own they'd have such rich lore to share with other's as well. For now the budding pack was still striving to form into a cohesive unit. Tilting her head in curiosity at the importance of the flowers in Kaduki's pack she made a mental note to ask Harris or possibly Olive about this, perhaps they'd know more as herbalists.

The question of naming pups made a grin tug at her lips she wagged happily, they'd struggled with this when her pack started having pups and she stepped forward eager to offer the solution the pack had come up with. "It may seem cruel to others, but we do not name pups in my pack." She paused organizing her thoughts, "We wait to give them their permanent names until they have completely finished their pack training and are ready for their roles. We do this both as a precaution," Her normally kind pale eyes go misty as the memories of her lost pup dredge to the surface and she shakes herself looking down to hide the moment of weakness. Clearing the lump from her throat she continues, "Uhmm but also waiting gives the pup the opportunity to grow into their own personality without adding pressure that names sometimes bring. As for a theme we like using unique names so all feel special and one of a kind!"

She looks to one of the Leads that appeared to be hiding away in the shade, "Hello there! Pardon me for being so forward," She smiles to the Lead kindly, "I'd like to know how you decide if a stranger wolf should join your pack?" With a small wag of her tail she sits in a nice sunbeam looking towards the wolf she questioned waiting patiently for their response.

Olive has been a bit quiet and nervous surrounded by so many other leads, as he and his pack were still young and unexperiences, so seeing these huge and obviously experiences wolf. He was a bit lost in thought, planning a next few days. He needs to ask Horestail to make some cough medicine for the pup, maybe he could try to expand the camp with another den? Puppies sure need a lot of space.

He snapped back into reality as he saw one of the leads looking at him. He got a bit confused "Oh, apologies, have you said something to me? I spaced out for a second" he nervously said.

The wolf has repeated herself politely, and Olive got excited and immidately moved closer to the gathering wolves and startek talking "That is a perfect question! My pack mostly values closeness and safety." he stops for a second to form his words "we want loyal wolves, someone we could trust our lives with. They do not to be beautiful or really friendly, well, we currently have a few really grumpy fellas, like Sunflower for example! She may not be the kindest, but we trust her and she trusts us!"

Olive exhaled loudly, looked around silently for a second and suddenly started loudly talking again, startling a few wolves near him "Okay, okay, okay, I feel like I talked for way too long." He looked around in the search of a wolf who looks friendly enough, until he ru up to a leader laying down near "You! I have a question for you! Do you pack has any unusual festivites? Some celebration that is really special to you and your wolves, and not seen anywhere else?"

He stared at the other wolf with excitement, waiting for an answer, all his nervousness now gone.
