Make Explore a little safer for those with photosensitive epilepsy

Make Explore a little safer for those with photosensitive epilepsy

Hi! This was something I brought up to the modbox originally, but they explained that they wouldn't be able to make direct changes to the game through that route and suggested I make a post here instead. I figure I may as well paste what I said from the ticket;

Another user, who I am making this post on behalf of, has stated that despite having site animations turned off in their settings, images flashing in Explore have made them feel unsafe due to their photosensitive epilepsy. I don't have epilepsy so I offered to investigate what they were seeing.

The specific issue they were having, was the scenery unloading and reloading in Explore when the time of day changes (such as from dawn to daytime). I used OBS to record a short video of what happens when I use Explore during a change of the time, and then broke the video into still images so they could look at it safely and confirm if it was the same phenomenon. They confirmed that it is, while pointing out that they use light mode, which potentially makes the effect much more egregious. I made another recording of the phenomenon with light mode on to confirm.

The video the screenshots are from
A second video recorded with light mode on

I personally wouldn't have noticed the effect if it hadn't been pointed out to me first, but I trust this other user when they say that on a bad day it can have the potential to trigger an attack.

It seems that the other user has found some relief from changing to dark mode. Following this, I have a couple of suggestions;

-Place a static black box behind the Explore frame that does not unload during a scene change, or
-Make dark mode the default display mode for Wolvden, or
-Make the ability to change to dark mode more obvious on the user profile page, or bring attention to it at some point during the tutorial

Hopefully something can be done. Either way, thank you very much for your time. :)

Support!  Particularly for the first option, as it makes it so users who prefer light mode can also benefit from the fix.  I don't have epilepsy, but do suffer from chronic migraines and have had those same flashes aggravate or even trigger my symptoms in the past.  And I mean, I can imagine its less pleasant for anyone to be hit with that flashing white.  Even if I wasn't sensitive to them because of my migraines they are a bit disorienting and kinda pull you out of the game a tad.

support! i'm scared to go on wolvden when it's dark and i'm not feeling well, just the chance if there is a flash and it triggers.. it's not fun. luckily indeed, darkmode helps it a littke,but it'd be amazing if they just can get rid of this flash! (or all flashes, i don't know the game very well)

Support, especially to the first option. I don't have epilepsy, but my eyes are sensitive to bright lights, and when the environment is low on light and my internet fast, the bright flash of the image un- and uploading can feel quite uncomfortable, so I imagine this would be an improvement to most if not all users on top of making things safer for those with photosensitive conditions.

I also support! I do have epilepsy (and sensitive eyes which is why I use dark mode) so I understand why your friend wouldn't want the flashing. I do agree with the first option, then the flash isn't as noticeable.
