🎨 Show us your recent art! / art talk ☕

hi guys!

i haven't been drawing much recently but i was inspired by all the lovely art i've been seeing on wolvden so i thought i'd whip something up!

i also have a question for the digital artists here - on a scale of one layer to as many as the program will let you, how many layers do you guys usually end up using for your digital pieces? i end up falling on the latter end of the scale a lot but i get the vibe that that isn't very common lol. just curious if there's a general consensus!

whoa i love your style @rullien! it's so soft and sweet, and gosh that expression is so wonderful!! as far as layers, it depends on whether i'm painting or doing something different like adopts. for the former i usually start with multiple layers and end up with 1 or 2 by the end of it, but for adopts and the like i usually have upwards of 10!

Did a very sketchy fluffy dragon head, why do i do better art when I squiggle compared to when I focus and try to draw something :(

thank you @kos!! regarding layers, that makes sense! i always end up with way more layers on flatcolors or anything with a lineart as opposed to paintings, but rather than 2 and 10+ its more like 10 and 100+ lol

BUT im also counting hidden layers and because im like.... extremely nitpicky i end up having like 3 versions of every little part of something and i mix and match til the vibes are juuuust right

@UnlifeTheZombie very pretty (i like the eyelashes)!! also can totally relate, i think for me making an aesthetically pleasing sketch is way easier than making an aesthetically pleasing lineart lol. i read somewhere it has something to do with losing the forms or fluidity or something along those lines (ha). i have no patience for it so i take shortcuts by cleaning up the sketch over time as i render a piece rather than drawing a completely new lineart over the sketch.

EDIT: UH OH tags don't work like they do in the chat box

I am a small artist from sweden! i love me some anthros orz

Here's a recent commission i finished! First time i've been commissioned to actually make a proper background so it's not amazing but it does the job lol :D

I've been drawing for as long as i can remember, i think i started occasionally drawing digitally back in '05 with the bulky windows 99, MSpaint and that cursed old logitech ball mouse- damn thing was horrible but i was stubborn as hell hahahah I was like.. 4.. back then so they definitely weren't great by any means, and most were traced or recolored and ripped straight from deviantart (im so sorry to the people i stole images from orz)

I got my first tablet back in 2013, a medium wacom intuos! Which is also when i started drawing a bit more.. seriously..??? i guess?? I started offering commissions for deviantart points, no one bought anything but it still gave me a rush when people expressed any sort of interest :D I got my first proper commission 3 years ago in 2017, and i've been steadily growing ever since!

I still view art as more of a hobby than anything, i do feel extremely lucky though that people like my art enough to buy commissions from me. It's a huge blessing really, and has kept food on my table more than once :) I'll gladly give tips on it if anyone needs it or is interested in possibly offering commissions in the future! ^^

Oh! This is a very nice thread ^^ I just started on Wolvden (and am very new to everything here, haha!), but I love doing digital artwork with a... somewhat stylized, semi-realistic leaning look (I am. Not sure how else to explain it). I just finished my profile tag, so here's that!

Featuring my Lead Wolf, naturally (say hi, Kell).

(Alas, if only the resolution was not a disaster in the actual tag... but that's just another challenge to bear in mind the next time I design an icon)

Finally he's done, I had to re-do the background and line art so many times because my laptop kept loosing it. Anyways I love him (I decided to make him my lead wolf Ikari)

Kookaburra, I agree so much about online resources! It's an awesome thing that with just a bit of work you can learn almost anything. Even in my case, I learnt Zbrush on my own from internet tutorials as we were using only Maya on our 3d classes. I was lucky as my teacher said doing a final semester project in Zbrush was allowed so that gave me a lot of room for practice. ^^

Btw, character artist with a specialization in creatures sounds soooo amazing, best of luck with that! <3
