SUGGESTION: Home Biome Specific Perks
Posted 2021-06-29 23:59:36

So, in my early days of playing, I explored all of the biomes, and my foolish, foolish self decided to move my pack to the Glacier Biome, and then my lead wolf died. I've been trapped in the Glacier biome ever since. All my scouts are either too weak to scout the Tundra or keep dying.

Its not that the Glacier biome is bad per say, but its very, very difficult. As it should be, since its the hardest to unlock. My hunting party all have around 500 stats each, but my success rate is only 15% successful on average (including season change). I can't level up my lead wolf because all my time in Explore is for killing seagulls to feed my starving pack, and the only herbs are like Charcoal.

This is not be bashing the game mechanics, in fact, I support them. As a hard biome it should be hard to live there. But there is no benefit to living there compared to the easy beginner biomes.

So, here is my proposal:

BIOME SPECIFIC PERKS

If you decide to move your pack to a difficult biome (Glacier, Jungle, etc.) there are a lot of risk factors such as lack of herbs or hunting success rate compared to easy starter biomes. so it should be fair to give these hard biomes their own set of special bonuses or exclusive content not available anywhere else.

~

BUFFS AND IMMUNITIES

Pups born in hard biomes should get a slight stat boost when born. It takes 100 stat Wisdom for a scout to search the Glacier biome, so pups born should get a slight percent wisdom stat boost. The boost gets higher and higher with every generation.

Immunity is an option too. Pups born in difficult biomes that have lived there for many generations should become naturally immune to illness in that area. For example, a 3rd generation of wolves (as in, their grandparents were born in this biome and parents) would be immune to Influenza in the Jungle Biome. A way to combat this loophole is to make it so that pregnant wolves or nested wolves cannot move to different biomes until the pups are born.

EXCLUSIVE RECIPES AND DECOR

At the moment of posting, there is already a biome specific decor system in place for foxes, there are also item drops from foxes. The problem with this, is it doesn't give you incentive to stay in the biomes. You just move in, buy from the Racoon Wares, and then leave without hassle. Foxes are also a wide spread animal and are not biome specific like jaguars or polar bears.

Making Biome Specific Recipes for Decors and Applicators that are only available for packs living in the biomes will give you incentive to move and stay there for a long time to find the recipe and ingredients. A pack that lives in the jungle as residents can find exclusive recipes and decor craftables that nonresidents can't

BIOME SPECIFIC BASES, MARKINGS, AND EYES

This is a breeding simulation game, where players want to try to breed special bases or breed only genetics. I think certain special bases and markings should be exclusive to certain biomes.

For example, lets say you live in the Glacier biome, and you breed certain wolves in your pack with the specific genetics/bases/eyes. There should be a chance to breed a breed only, biome specific Special base (or marking, or eyes, etc.). Just like how in other games there are season and time specific bases that can be breed, except these are biome resident exclusive.

The only way for nonresidents to breed this certain exclusive base/marking/eyes is by breeding wolves with the parents both having that exclusive base/marking/eyes for a low chance of passing it onto pups.

Now you're probably thinking, "This is way too hard!" Well, that's what I'm intending. These are just examples of what you can find in biomes. The higher the difficulty level of the biome, the better the perks your pack can have. Maybe Medium or Hard difficulty biomes can have rare items and breeding and the hardest biomes can have legendary items or breeding.

Having a Silver Cone bonus or a special item bonus for each roll in hard biomes would affect game play and wouldn't make much sense, so I didn't include it in the suggestions up there. These 3 suggestions I offered are meant to give players more things to do while not breaking the game.

If you have any questions or comments, I'd like to hear them. [Maybe someday I'll escape the Hell-scape that is the Glacier Biome.]

No support, for a couple reasons.

- Harder biomes already give more hunting exp, which is an enormous benefit; they don't need to be buffed further. It would be overpowered to have hunting exp AND a whole bunch of other perks.

- Giving extra stats to pups based on biome would be actively bad because it could potentially mess up a pup's build (e.g., if I have a chaser litter born while I'm in glacier, I don't want the pups to have extra wisdom). Conversely, it would mean I have to move to glacier every time I have a stalker litter born. And what if I have multiple litters of different types being born on the same day? It would just be a huge mess.

I support. I haven't moved my pack yet, but based on what you said, it makes sense. Also, I think that if the cubs have a stat boost in one attribute, it wouldn't lessen their stats in another stat, so their could only be benefits. But I would suggest having a limit on how large the boost can be. Maybe the effects stop increasing after 15 generations, or something similar...

@Auri I double checked and it turns out you're right (and I was wrong) about the way stat inheritance works - the extra stats wouldn't cause them to pass on less of their important stats.

I'd still rather not have to move my whole pack every time I have pups though.

Support! Moving biomes is pretty pointless at this point, even with the EXP boosts, there's not much more benefit to moving outside the beginning biomes. I had no idea you could get straight up stuck there though! Hopefully you can get some wolves buff enough to explore the taiga and get you out of there.

@Lionel I think in terms of stat specific boosts, it would be based on percentage, like maybe 5% or 10%

so like if you have pups born in the Glacier biome and their Wisdom stats at default were 100, they would get 5+ points and be born with a total of 105 instead. As for hunting, its really difficult to catch anything, and even then its only critters.
