A song or a poem, read as either. The Fire Burned It started with a look. The smoldering heat in your eyes. The way you stared at me, as if I were a prize. I didn't know what to do. I was so unsure. A girl as plain as me, couldn't be with you. And, the forest burned. Fires lighting the sky. Dancing in your eyes, on a starry night. Walking alone in a silent grove. I came upon a doe by the silver stream. Out of the trees you suddenly leapt, It happened so fast it seemed almost a dream. Grin on your muzzle, you pulled me aside. Said the doe was a gift, then you gave me a nuzzle. And, the forest burned. Fires lighting the sky. Dancing in your eyes, on a starry night. Excuses were made, The timing just didn't seem right. But there you were the next day, showing off your might. Branches removed so over the valley I could see. Chickens and squirrels left by my den. Rawhide, feathers, and bones of every sort, you went all out when it was for me. And, the forest burned. Fires lighting the sky. Dancing in your eyes, on a starry night. The hunting team was all misaligned, with you spending all of your time by my side. Our pack leader took notice, how could she not? With all of the feelings that we failed to hide. She sat us both down, gave us a talk. "Work out you two, it can't go on like this." We nodded our heads, eyes fixed on the ground. Then you pulled me aside, and we went for a walk. And, the forest burned. Fires lighting the sky. Dancing in your eyes, on a starry night. We spoke and we laughed, we talked all through the night. The way we were together, it just felt so right. In the morning as birds started to sing, you led me back home, uncertain tilt to your ears. A breath in, a breath out, a question to ask. A smile, a yes, and a love took wing. And, the forest burned. Fires lighting the sky. Dancing in your eyes, on a starry night. |

Tw: mild gore link "Mama, just killed a man." Throwback a few years in my lore. My current lead, who was born "blind", was attacked by her older sister and the favorite to lead the herd next because she thought Lark might challenge her. In desperation, Lark thrashed her head and managed to score a fatal blow on her sister. With her sister's last words, "What have you done?", ringing through the forest, Lark's Song ran from the herd. She eventually found her mate, Blazing Whisper, and her sight through the lunar landscapes she wandered in her dreams. |
