OOC Thread || Sigh-Ups

In a rural suburb, a collection of local dogs playfully called themselves a pack. Though they were far from such in reality, they ‘patrolled’ on walks, relayed important goings on, and helped one another when they could.

One autumn, the canines began to notice a change on the wind. The older dogs knew this was no ordinary storm, while youngsters could only expect the worst. They waited, unable to eat or sleep. They watched their upright caretakers grab many things in their nests, pack them in their machines, and leave. Either unwilling or unable, they did not take their furry companions along. Some left doors open and pet doors unlocked. Others were left trapped inside, but luckily were able to escape.

The dogs amassed and ran from the uprights’ territory, only able to assume they, too, would be safer fleeing like their masters had. As the storm broke, the makeshift pack found themselves in an open field. The wind ripped at their fur while thunder deafened them. Those with the quickest wit ran for higher ground, and the others followed. They came into a forest and huddled where they could under fallen trees and against broad tree trunks. As hard as it was to sleep, they stayed this way until morning, seeing the storm had finally calmed.

So much rain had come, they returned to see the field more closely resembled a lake. Though some of the dogs were adept at swimming, the water was too broad and could hide anything, alive or inanimate. Now, they have no choice but to relearn their instincts and survive on their own.

.:| Tickles | Location: Forest Edge | Mentions: OPEN |:.

The intimidating figure of the scarred doberman lurked at the edge of the tree line. The shadows of the early morning hid his rust-colored coat well, although he was hardly trying to remain unseen. His gaze was locked intently on the former pets below in the field. Some paced the edge of the floodwater while others tried to wade in, and others still stayed far away. Despite his dislike of most other canids, he couldn't suppress the ache of empathy in his chest. It was many years ago now, but he had lived the same tragedy of the inability to return home, albeit for very different reasons. For now, however, he chose not to introduce himself to the frightened crowd. He would kept an eye on them, and if help were needed, Tee would offer it. He gazed down at them for a moment longer before one of them met his eyes unexpectedly. He quickly turned and padded back into the forestI ought to get something to eat, anyways. He thought, scraping up an excuse. His belly growled, as if to comfort him.

|:. Mutt | Location: Flood Lake | Mentions: OPEN .:|

Mutt couldn't keep still, jogging back and forth around the edge of the water. Having no real home to return to, she was more frustrated with her companions than the situation itself. She paused near the muddy lake to gaze down at her rippling reflection, contemplating a few laps. Thinking better of it, she dipped a paw playfully, flicking droplets everywhere. Mutt barked excitedly, getting into a play bow and pouncing back and forth in and out of the water. The cold liquid felt good on her sore paws, and was certainly more entertaining than the fretting canines around her. This went on for a good minute, before her attention span ran out.

She turned to the nearest dog and asked, "Can we go back to the trees now? At least there are things to eat in there."

Light | Location: Edge of Town | Mentions: Mutt

Light bounded out of town, spooked by a falling chunk of concrete. She panted, her dark-colored pelt heating up in the harsh sun. The Bernese mix stopped at the beginning of the forest, skidding to a stop in the dewy grass. Tilting her head to the side, Light picked up the faint sound of splashing water beyond a strip of trees. That might be nice, hopefully it's cool! She began to trot towards the source of the splashing, picking up the pace when she heard familiar voices. Clearing the trees, she spotted several of her friends, plus Mutt splashing in a muddy lake. "Make some room for me!" She yipped, running down an embankment towards her friends. Near the bottom she tripped over her own paws, tumbling down and falling into the lake.

Sashi - (She/her) - Location: Flood Lake - Mentions: Mutt

Her brandy punch colored eyes were focused only on the edges of the floodwater, where it met her front paws, hesitant to look beyond the edges and see what unmerciful destruction the water had brought with it. She looked intently at the liquid, almost accusingly at the non sentient thing, in her saturated and light orange eyes was evident a strange mixture of betrayal, sadness and a bit of denial at what she was seeing with her own eyes. A myriad of yowling thoughts had emerged into her mind, reminding and warning her of all the bad things that could happen to her. Sashi took a step back, her heart starting to beat faster than usual, while looking discreetly frightened at the things that were buzzing in her mind like a hive of bees. Her ears perked up slightly at a new sound, gluing themselves against her skull for a fraction of time, and her eyes quickly turned towards the noise of water being splashed as a canine jumped into the water. After her mind registered that the sound hadn’t come from a potential threat her ears returned to their default position, her heart slowing down to its usual pace. Sashi quietly sighed with relief.

The white and cherry-wood colored Ibizan Hound nodded quietly with the words that came from the mostly grey female, agreeing that it would be the sensible thing to do. Just settling near the floodwater would surely lead them to their deaths, Sashi wasn’t very certain if she would be able to catch a fish...she didn’t even know if the floodwater had fish in the first place. She didn’t want to risk starving to death along with her fellow canines. “That would be quite the...smart thing to do in our situation”, she said carefully to Mutt while wondering which words she would use that wouldn’t show how truly panicked she was about the ordeal, “I hope that the critters in there will be easy to catch...I don’t know how many of us would be able to deal with hunger”. It was left unsaid that Sashi, herself, probably would be one of the dogs that wouldn’t deal very well with starvation. She never had truly felt hunger in her life while being unable to obtain a meal, and the thought alone of it made her want to shiver and shudder.

(I may not be able to reply tomorrow, my family and I are moving. Once I get the internet in my new home I’ll be replying as soon as I can! You guys can pretend that she is tagging along with most of the “pack”)
