🐺 Puppy Stages: Minor Toggle / Customization Idea 🐺

Posted 2021-05-27 06:53:19

i like the idea of individual pups as a sub option, but the overall toggle would absolutely be useful imo! copying my pitch for placement in here, bear with me gKNS

a small section where it would otherwise just note youve purchased pup stages in the grove; little selection boxes with

  • default puppy (options, default, young, and newborn, though newborn is greyed out unless young puppy is toggled to be newborn)
  • young puppy (options, default, young, and newborn)
  • newborn (options are default, young, and newborn, though default is greyed out unless young puppy is toggled to be default)

the little black question mark icon reads something along the lines of ‘pup stages may not be placed in an order that reverses aging, this setting is public’

overall i think its a wonderful idea, huge support, and sorry if my explanation is a little wordy im not very good at being concise xD

Reflecting on the suggestion above, maybe the menu can go something like this:

0 - 1½ months:
☑️ Newborn  🔲 Young puppy  🔲 Puppy

2 - 3½ months:
🔲 Newborn  ☑️ Young puppy  🔲 Puppy

4 - 5½ months:
🔲 Newborn  🔲 Young puppy  ☑️ Puppy

(I hope I separated the age groups correctly~)

The game would not allow you to go "backwards" in puppy stages, but will allow you to have any combination of stages in the correct aging order (repeats are allowed).

Examples:
Newborn > Newborn > Puppy
Young > Young > Young
Newborn > Young > Young

Impossible order:
Puppy > Puppy > Young
Young > Puppy > Newborn

Instead of checkboxes, a slider would be the better option, with two indicators describing when the pup evolves its stage.

I like the checkboxes idea a bit better than using sliders. The only reason is if you only want to use the young puppy OR default puppy stages, a slider indicates that I want to use multiple stages, when I just want only one stage.

At least, in my mind this is what I picture when visualizing a slider:

Newborn | Young | Puppy

🟩✅⬜️

I’m on mobile so sorry for the crappy formatting,.

Were you thinking of something like this instead?:

Newborn | Young | Puppy

⬜️✅⬜️

Although after typing this out I think I kinda agree with some way to “gray out” an option so you can’t select multiple stages for an age range (if choosing age ranges, that is). The second slider example would work for that I think.

In reply to your last point, maybe the regular checkboxes should be replaced with those "dot" checkboxes like this: ⦿ & 〇

Those usually imply you can only select one option out of the selection, instead of square checkboxes that can imply multiple options :>

I was thinking about letting users decide when pup stage evolves not only when the pup hits 2 and 4 months but it can be chosen for any age between 0 and 5½. The first indicator can be set at 0 when the user doesn't want to see newborn stage. Both indicators can be set at the same value if the user doesn't want to see young puppy stage.

oh wow thats an awesome idea actually :0 idk how feasible every rollover as im not sure how they classify pup stages rn, but a slider could still work where you can set ones to 0 or full, and it automatically blocks/greys it out for reverse aging and such! one slider where i can set default puppy and newborn to the farthest edges, so only young puppy shows up or smth!

instead of the start of stages, its just ‘what day does it change to young/default’ so only two things?

———|——————————|—

with each notch being newborn -> young, and young -> default? :0 does seem simpler, even if it may have to be set to smth simpler than every month/1/2 month!

On the other paw, there should be some restriction that doesn't make the pups look younger than they were previously if pup stage settings are changed.

^ I think that's a lot easier to do. Each puppy stage could have a value from 1 to 3, and when changing the settings the game would check if the value of the next stage is either greater or equal to the current stage.

If settings indicate the pup to evolve its stage, the change should be made during rollover, not when settings are changed.
