Maximum Age for NBWs

Maximum Age for NBWs

I could have sworn I saw a post about this before, but I couldn't find anything except one that mentioned age as a side note. Apologies if I'm being redundant.

Basically, I think there should be a cap on how old a Newly Befriended Wolf can be. I have, on multiple occasions (and I know I'm not alone in this) befriended wolves only to learn they're over 7y6m - that is, they're going to die any day. This makes them pretty much useless. They won't be able to perform a role long enough to gain a decent amount of proficiency or stats. Females can't be bred. Males probably can't be bred either, as they're unlikely to live the 7 rollovers required to form a pairbond, and making them a stud would be a waste, since the 30 day cooldown will still be in effect once they go. This is especially frustrating if they're a special Chased wolf (all the old ones I've found have been chased, but I'm not sure if that's a coincidence or not).

I would like it to not be possible to find and befriend a wolf who's too old - 6y10m at the very oldest, I think, which (if I did my math right) would allow a female to have one last heat without needing an elk heart. Personally, I would prefer the age cap to be lower. If only chased wolves can be that old, then the simplest solution would probably be to not have wolves over a certain age have a chance of entering the chase pool. Instead, have them be automatically deleted, like puppies are. If random NBWs can also be that old, then I would suggest a tweak to how their ages are generated.

I believe the only thing that would be required from the devs would be coding. Thank you for considering.

Generated NBWs can't be older than 5 years. Chased NBWs will be as old as they were upon chasing.

Support, chased new befriended wolves shouldn't be able to be older than 6 years 6 months. This allows the person who found it to be able to pair bond and breed it once before it is no longer breedable

Support! I was thinking that, since a chased wolf's stats are re-rolled (if I am remembering right), then why not their age? That way their age will be like generated NBWs. Then they wouldn't have to be auto deleted. Not sure if it will be more difficult though.

Support.  The chased NBW I found just two days was 7½ years old when I befriended her and died with the last rollover. 😢

Support on age cap, not on re-rolling. The issue with Sepulchre's suggestion is that a lot of us (including myself) raise fancy wolves- merles, t2s, multi-marks, fancy eyes, etc- to 1y0m and chase them. While yes, older wolves do show up in the chased pool from time to time, it doesn't negate the benefit of finding a 1yo~ chased with 250+ stats. I'd suggest something more like an age cap (where, if a wolf is older than a certain # of rollovers, it's auto-deleted), if at all possible- that way, it's still possible to find high stat young chased NBWs, but older wolves don't make it into the pool.

It has been reported as a bug and marked as fixed. Since then, chasers realized that their chased wolves had age re-rolled. I also noticed that age to stats proportion for chased NBWs worked exactly as for normal NBWs: older wolves have better starting stats. Starting total stats range from 175, for 1-year wolves, to 295, for 5-year wolves.

It means that hurray! we'll never find wolves older than 5 years. But it also means that we'll never find young wolves with better stats.

Thoughts?

Okay, I'm going to preface this by saying that I really don't want to be mean, but as a solution, this actively sucks, and feels a bit like spitting on the efforts of those of us who raise and chase. Main issue is anyone chasing T2s that have explore-special bases- if they don't have very many markings, the "bug fix" makes them no better than a normal NBW- despite the fact that it's basic sense to r&c your t2s. A chased 1yo sky, even with low marks, in explore prior to the bug fix would have been excellent- now, it's pointless to waste the resources to raise said sky up to adulthood.

basically what orderup said.

as someone who is currently sitting in mountain jail because i thought it was a cool idea to R&C every merle i came across (50+ pups later, it was not), the idea that some of these will be claimed with only 2-3 breedings defeats the purpose. additionally, stat breeders looking to start new lineages will go out of their way to buy chased wolves that are less than 2 years of age with 250+ stats. having chased stats randomly generated may sound like a minor adjustment but it basically kills two communities in one stone
