"Ow!"

The stallion pulled his head away with a soft snort, ears pinned as big blue eyes looked down at the short human in front of him. Said short human glared up at the horse, rubbing his shoulder where the animal had just nipped him.

"I don't see how you think that's an appropriate way to ask for treats, you ass."

The horse continued to just stare with an unamused expression. At least, that's how Ambrose took it anyway. Wishmaker looked unamused, snarky and sassy much like he usually was. He had the temperament of a mare which was.. something else. He'd swing wildly between chill and ornery and while most people couldn't handle him, Ambrose had gotten rather good and managing the slightly bipolar Trakehner.

"Don't you fuckin' dare..!" Ambrose scolded as he watched that large white-splashed face slowly and comically dip back down and closer to his shoulder once more.

Wish paused, stared at the boy for another few seconds, only to toss his head with a snort and turn to look at something mildly more interesting. In this case the wall, apparently. Ambrose shook his head, brunette curls bouncing slightly stop his head and he bent back over to continue cleaning out the stallion's hoof. The duo were currently sat within the horse's stall at the stables where he was boarded. Ambrose's family didn't have room to keep the boy's horses on their own property but as long as he kept up with payment it was all fine and dandy. Honestly his family, mainly his old man, wasn't too keen on Ambrose 'wasting his time with prancing ponies' anyway. And yet.. Ambrose made more money than his dad did, which probably wasn't helping the lingering bitterness within their relationship.

Dylan was at the same stable that Ambrose was at and heard the horse that he was working with. He wanted to make sure everything was alright, so he walked to where they were and stopped. He gave a slight chuckle "ย  You having some trouble there?" he asked walking up to the two of them and looked at the stallionย  " yeah hes a troublemaker. I can help you if you want" he then looked at Ambrose and winked. " I've worked with this monster once, but i stopped awhile back. it would be good for me to try him again.."

He had a sugar cube in his hand in case the stallion was looking for a treat " you wont get one unless you do as I say"

He took his hand and put in on Wish'sย  nose and looked into his eyes " I know you know me, Wish and you don't like me, but its time to get used to each other...again. And I hope its worth it" then he looked back at Ambrose " Names Dylan by the way"

The initial question had the boy's hazel eyes sliding toward the door of the stall where a stranger now stood. Ambrose was fully prepared to tell him that he had everything under control, however the guy just.. walked in and made himself at home. Seemed a little rude considering Ambrose was busy working with hisย horse before hisย competition.

And yet, despite the noticeable distaste clinging to Ambrose's tongue in regards to getting interrupted, he held his words. Instead, a subtle glare he hadn't intended to let slip seeped onto his brow as he eyed this stranger who was now introducing himself.

Dylan, huh? Good for him. "Shaw.." Ambrose murmured in return, throwing out his surname rather than his first. For personal reasons. He was often teased for his name, it's been called girly on more than one occasion and honestly.. he didn't disagree. After all the go to nickname was Rosieย or Rose.

"I don't need help, by the way," he spoke up a little louder this time, his tone something more appropriate rather than the mumble he had used to speak his name. "Thanks for the concern though~" he chirped sarcastically.

Dylan sighed " well alright then"

He gave the stallion the sugar cube before heading back to his mare and finishedย  her ground training before getting on and taking her out for a ride out in the open field " Shaw seems a little upset about something, huh, girl" he asked stroking her neck. " Im sure whatever seems to be bothering him, he can get to understand that im here to help him"

They were out in the field for a few hours, jumping over a few obstacles before heading back to the stable

His gaze followed Dylan who retreated a moment later, the subtle glare on his face easing with each step the guy took. Usually Ambrose wasn't so unfriendly but that guy seemed cocky. Well, Ambrose was cocky too but not butt into other's business cocky. Besides, he genuinely didn't need help which was something the boy was now determined to prove whether he consciously realized it or not.

Ambrose had been working with horses the moment he'd been old enough to ride; in his grandfather's eyes, that was when he was old enough to walk. His grandfather raised racehorses in his prime but retired shortly before Dominic was born (Ambrose's oldest brother). Arlo was second and Ambrose was right behind him.. because they were twins. Granddad was determined to show the Shaw boys everything equine, even with their father's protests. Dominic and Ambrose took off like loose Mustangs across the desert while Arlo kept close to their old man like a damn shadow. Ambrose and Arlo may look a lot a like and but personality wise, they couldn't be more different.

Anyway, Ambrose had been riding, caring for, and even training since he was a toddler and now being 21, he liked to think he had a pretty damn good handle on things.

Currently, Ambrose was clipping down Wishmaker's coat. Something that had been needing to be done and with a competition coming up he absolutely needed to do it sooner rather than later. Luckily the stallion and evened out with his mood and with the ambient hum of the trimmers, he even had begun to doze off while standing there in the grooming stall.

Dylan noticed Shaw in the stall when he passed but didnt say anything, since he now believed that he didnt like him enough as a friend. He wasnt trying to be rude or anything, he just wanted to be of some sort of help. But he stayed his distance- 4 stalls away that is-ย  and groomed his mare " Well girl. Your gonna beat those others in that competition. If you win, you get all the sugar cubes and carrots that you want. Spoiling his mare was too often, but he wanted to make sure that she was the best.

At least that's what he thought when he saw Shaw and Wish. He sighed and pushed the feelings and thoughts aside before closing the stall door and walked right past Shaw. He had a hard life and wanted to make something of himself, but he might not get that chance.ย  His parents were gone so he had to do everything himself now. But his father told him everything he needed to know about competing and taking care of horses, since he was a little lad. But now he was much older and life was getting tougher as the years went by.ย

Ambrose didn't necessarily notย like Dylan; he didn't know the guy. It was just that initial introduction that rubbed him the wrong way. Thus he stewed on that as he cleaned up the stallion. Clipping his coat and grooming him so he no longer looked as sloppy as before. Maybe he should say something, clear the air. He wanted interested in dealing with sketchy relationships around the stables, especially when it was as seemingly unnecessary as this. Ambrose was very aware of Dylan as he passed by not once, not twice, but three times and come the third.. he felt the need to speak up.

"Hey.." he said with an audible but softer voice, eyes scanning over the guy before continuing. Albeit awkwardly. "I- uh.. sorry about before." Should he clarify about what before meant? No, no, Dylan knew.. right? "You just kinda.. popped out of the woodwork and-" A soft click sounded from Ambrose's tongue as he thought of a decent way to coherently word himself. "-I was an ass. So, sorry.."

Dylan chuckled " Im the one who should be sorry, Shaw. I shouldnt have disrupted your training today. " He then looked at Wish andย  smiled " You missed a tiny spot on the shoulder." he said with a slight chuckle " Hey, I um know its none of my business, but I sensed that something was wrong.. if you ever wanna... you know, talk about it, let me know.. im free every day."

" I dont wanna be a pain in the ass, of course. I just wanna be there for ya as a friend" he said leaning against the stallย  wall and stared at the floor

The mention of missing a spot of Wish's shoulder had hazel-brown eyes drifting toward the horse. Only for a moment before snapping right back to Dylan who continued speaking, catching the boy slightly off guard with what came out of his mouth next. Dylan sensed something was.. wrong. Ambrose felt his brows pinch together as he let those words rattle around within his head. Really, there was so much wrong within Ambrose's personal life. So much. But he wasn't about to dump all of that baggage onto a total stranger. Even if said stranger said they were "friends" which was interesting. They were acquaintances at best.. rivals even.

"Right, I'll keep that in mind," Ambrose murmured as he slowly peeled his gaze off Dylan who lingered within the doorway. He found the little spot he missed before correcting it. Ambrose dragged it hand over the horse's coat only to step back a second later to let his eyes scan him as well.
