Battle Move Effectiveness [WIP; Data is appreciated!]

Posted 2020-10-30 01:41:18
My lead is level 7, the goose was level 10. I used a lucky foot. The goose moved first, so I didn't get a chance to focus or anything.

You got 1x Meat Chunks [Medium]!

Lucky Foot has expired.

[Rolled 3 + 0]You bite the Enraged Canada Goose for 4 damage.

The Enraged Canada Goose is bleeding and has lost 3 HP.

[Rolled 1 + 0]You bite the Enraged Canada Goose for 3 damage.

[Rolled 4 + -1]The Enraged Canada Goose has broken free from your grasp!

[Rolled 3 + 1]You shear the Enraged Canada Goose with your teeth for 5 damage. It squeaks in pain.

The Enraged Canada Goose is bleeding and has lost 3 HP.

[Rolled 6 + -1]The Enraged Canada Goose is trying to escape, but cannot free itself from your jaws!

[Rolled 5 + 0]You crush the Enraged Canada Goose with your teeth for 5 damage. You can feel something breaking under the pressure.

[Rolled 1 + 0]You try to bite the Enraged Canada Goose but miss.

Something interesting I just discovered is that if you paste without formatting (ctrl+shift+v), you can see the modifiers on the dice. So here's the same log with the pluses and minuses:

Need to test more (and get more rabbit feet) but it seems like the lucky foot probably gives you +1 to rolls and the enemy -1? I'm assuming my +0 is from the goose giving me -1 on its first turn (lucky foot wipes records so I'm not sure what exactly it did), which would be canceled out by the foot's +1. I only have a net +1 (presumed +1+1-1) once, when I shear the latched goose. That may be the "different moves are effective on different enemies" thing, with shearing being more effective than crushing on geese. Anecdotally, I've noticed that crushing is more effective on coyotes, but obviously that could be probability & confirmation bias so I'll check their unformatted log next time I kill one.

Mossfoot,

Actually, that is exactly what the Lucky Feet does! The Grouse House touched on it a bit I believe.

Oh! When you're in battle, if you mouse over the die, it'll show you what the modifiers are. I'm not sure if there's a way to see that on mobile or not, though.

That's how I was able to add the (-1 for low speed) and (+2 for opponent panicked) when I posted mine. I forgot to keep track for a while, shall start up again soon!

Hello, here I'm leaving this data of 45 battles, hopefully it's helpful for this thread ^^

drive.google.com

Something interesting can be deduced from that (any help, correction or contribution is appreciated ):

  1. Let's classify results in each move in 'good' and 'bad'. A 'good result' is equivalent to a high dice score (4, 5 or 6). A 'bad result' is equivalent to a low dice score (1, 2 or 3). The main difference in how each move will go during the battle depends of that classification.
  2. Modifiers can affect the result of the dice scores. Example if you get a "-1" modifier and your initial dice score is a 4, your final dice score will be a: 4 -1 = 3, so now it's a bad result.
  3. The most common modifiers are: "-1 Low [insert stat here]" (Stats that you wolf has: Strenght, Speed, Agility, Wisdom, Smarts) "-1 Regular Bite", "+1 Opponent Wounded", "+2 Opponent Panicked", "+/- Bleeding" "+/- Locked"
  4. A regular bite will always have a "-1 Regular Bite" modifier
  5. A latch can have a "-1 Low strenght" modifier if your stat is not enough to beat the enemy
  6. If a bite gets a 'good result' your enemy will bleed, if not then your enemy will just take damage. It means there is 33% of chance you make the enemy bleed each time you bite.
  7. If a latch gets a 'good result' you will have your enemy locked in your jaw. It has a 50% of chance of happening (33% if you get a -1 Low Strenght modifier). If you get a 'bad result' you will miss the latch and won't deal any damage to your enemy.
  8. If a shear/crush gets a 'good result' your enemy will bleed, if not then your enemy will just take damage. (-1 Low strenght can be applied in case).
  9. At latching there is another move :keeping your enemy in your grasp, if you get a 'good result' it will keep locked in your grasp and you will be able to make another shear/crush move, if you get a 'bad result' the enemy will free itself (-1 Low strenght can be applied in case).
  10. If you make your enemy bleed, you'll get a +1 Opponent wounded when resting
  11. If you make your enemy panick, you'll get a +2 Opponent panicked when resting
  12. Resting can heal HP only once (in a 2HP~3HP range) in a battle, the next time you rest you will just see your enemy struggle.
  13. If you get a 'good result' when resting your enemy won't rush at you and you won't take damage, if you get a bad result your enemy will rush at you and there is a chance of getting damaged (0 to 2 HP damage) plus they'll get an attack turn. So it's recommendable to rest only when the enemy is bleeding or panicking, not before.(unless you want to heal your bleeding)
  14. Adding more later ....
