Heartlands' Story - Tracker & Lore

Day 52 (February 15th, 2021) Winter 5, Y2

Normally, any feathers that are found are usually given to the Nursery queens or played with by the pups and childish adults, but there haven't been any nursing she-wolves in ages now! A long time ago, Berrypaw took it upon himself to collect any feathers he could find. He would especially ask the Scouts to look out for parrot and toucan feathers whenever they visited the Rainforest.

Now, he's collected a vast hoard of feathers, and has buried them all deep inside the Apprentice's den where the wind can't blow them away. Looking at it, it seems like quite an accomplishment...but, why did he do that?

Now the wolves know why. With the aid of Hazelglow, Lilypool, and Smokewood--his three closest friends--he's managed to attach a feather to stay upright and cuddled beside his ear by making some thin rope and wrapping it at the base of the feather and his ear. It's hard to do such a thing, especially when you've got no opposable thumbs, but they've done it!

What's more, he's decided to make more of these using the feathers! The wolves of Heartlands are thankful. Someone suggests--Owlfrost, specifically--that they do some sort of theme.

"The arnica flower crown I got from the Tournament of Champions shouldn't just be for me! Why don't the females wear flower crowns, and the males wear the feather hats?"

Feather hats? He was only just putting one singular feather on people. But a hat...

People seem to agree with her idea, even though a few point out the oddly sex-divided theme. To compensate, Ourwin suggests that we find "a sturdy material fit for Heartlands' theme, then make a necklace out of it that everyone could wear."

After some discussion, the wolves decide that necklaces made out of bird talons will do. "Anything else is too small and not worth the effort of finding. Talons from birds of prey is both an intimidating decoration, and a show of our strength and tenacity." Redtail adds in.

~~~ So that's it, boys! We'll be giving everyone a Mouthful of Feathers, Arnica Flower Decor, and Owl Talon Necklace decor! This was something I was striving towards for a while now. I've got a fair chunk of toucan feathers and many flowers. Owl talons I'm a little low on (lol 160+ uses but only like 45 stacks), which is why I explore the rainforest so much! It has both a lot of high level creatures, and there are encounters that give me JUST toucan feathers or JUST owl talons.

Also parrot feathers too, because I'm really low on those and need them for the bird's nest decors, when I actually find those recipes...

Lilypool has reached level 4! I guess I'll start mentioning when people level up from now on :3

Swiftbriar has reached level 9! And my bio teacher sent me an email 20 min ago talking of a new assignment due tonight :'D

Rainpaw has reached level 2! I have also done all my homework for the day lol

Day 53 (February 16th, 2021) Winter 6, Y2

Last day of winter! Woo! I always only eat 10+ use food and sell the rest, and I finally ran out of my medium and large carcasses from autumn lol. All the food I've been selling from hunts were only critter, so I could not rob the racoon of all his SC for the past couple days >:( but soon I will be again!

Smokewood has reached level 6!

Berrypaw needs to grow up faster. Or not. Kind of hope the adolescence interaction update happens soon. I'm lonely :(

Both Eaglestrike and Hailstorm seem to have eyes on Smokewood. I mean, why wouldn't they? She's gorgeous, brave, and clever. She knows they have eyes on her, but otherwise takes no further note and treats them all the same. The young males have, so far, not tried anything outside of the occasional gift or wanting to hang out with her, but they're well aware of the other being interested in her as well. How will this end, I wonder?

I got lonely and bored, so I adopted a new puppy. My first merle! She's unnamed for now, but she gives me something to look forward to when rollover comes around. Seeing a 7% boost is more exciting than x4 -1% pupsitter proficiencies. Jessie's taking care of her now.

And er, I might or might not be talking with someone now about buying one or two of their adolescents... :')

The pup has been named. Welcome, again, to Tawnypup! She's a very inquisitive, unobtrusive child. An absolute delight to be around. Jessie and the other she-wolves fawn over her.

Day 48 (Feb 11th, 2021) Winter 1, Y2

The wolves of Heartlands had not had any notable problems for a while. The worry of space had dissipated the moment they stepped foot in Riparian Woodlands. Redtail's concerns on the need to fight for more territory soon had ceased since they moved, and everyone was settling into peace.

Berrypaw, the only apprentice, was adjusting well to his new training under Hailstorm, whom happily taught him the ways of Heartlands.

Day 50 (Feb 13th, 2021) Winter 3, Y2

A lot has happened since the last lore entry. Some notable ones never mentioned is the change in roles. Now, Scout is not a truly permanent role, meaning wolves go on rotation and are replaced by the next capable wolf as they scout territories. This is beneficial for giving everyone experience in being in unknown places and being alone, especially younger ones who have only ever known the two forests Heartlands has resided in in their lifetime.

Additionally, Hazelglow's sign language is now taught to all apprentices, though it is taught later in their training in the event adult-apprentices turn out to be spies. You never know.

Lastly, ever since moving to Rip Woodland, the problem of space is no longer, well, a problem. The trade-off, though, is that now Heartlands has a rather troublesome neighbor of wolves called...well, name pending, cause I'm thinking of making it a collab thing.

There seemed to be a sigh of relief when Opposite Day+ came upon the wolves. Berrypaw was the only pup in the pack, so Velvetwing came up with the idea that he could choose wolves who wouldn't have to follow Opposite Day's rules, but would have to help him throw moss at the rule-breakers.

Berrypaw, excited to have his first Opposite Day+, chose Hazelglow, Smokewood, and Eaglestrike. Hazelglow for her keen sense of hearing, and Smokewood and Eaglestrike for their skills. The wolves knew he only chose Smokewood and Eaglestrike because they were some of his closest friends, but who cares?! They're all having fun either way.

Day 54 (Feb 17th, 2021) Spring 1, Y3

Spring! Our third year on Wolvden!

I had SOME restraint. I did not buy both adolescents--only one! They're so pretty man! I have to save them D: Anyway, hopefully we won't be having more wolves soon? Ah, who am I kidding? Unless they add adolescent training soon, I'm going to get bored and lonely soon and buy another pup.

Lilypool has reached level 5!

I have a lore entry for today written! Not my best work, of course, but better than nothing! I had to get something out. I won't post it yet in case I want to add more to it before the day is over.

Barnaby got diarrhia for the thousandth time, and Eaglestrike and Marigoldshine--both Windrunners--got open wounds! Who knew muskrats could do so much damage? In the end, they caught it, and all were healed :)

Thank you for accepting my stud request 2 hours before RO v-v It was Robinwish's last day in heat. She's gonna have 4 puppies! Pretty unlikely any of them will be potatoes, scrying them gives such beautiful pups T^T

Since I'm going to be making entries again soon, I want to note something: from now and onwards, even how pups are made will be changed in-universe. While relationships are developing in lore, I might end up deciding 'too late' that I don't want a couple to be, and end up pairing them with other people. I had long since decided that Sootvine and Yellowfang were no longer going to be a pair, nor Austin with Robinwish, but it wouldn't make sense for them--at least Austin and Robinwish--to break up.

So, for example, when Robinwish ends up having children that aren't actually Austin's, we'll still say they are. Canonically they will be his biological children, and nobody will question why none of the pups might not look like him.

I'd like to put it on in one entry what happened to all of the pups from the baby boom. Let's just say--despite how it might not make sense for the personalities I gave/was going to give them--Featherpaw, Breezepaw, Dustpaw, and Beetlepaw are forming a sort of 'branch-off' pack. The pack is associated with Heartlands, and they exchange trades just like with any other pack. The wolves are allowed to visit each other's territories without question.

From now on, pups I don't keep--unless I decide they died in lore--will go to the branch-pack (name pending) to grow up there, where tradition is much the same. Apprentices, at their apprenticing ceremony, can still choose to remain in the Nursery (which is a bit dishonorable) or become an apprentice, but now they have a third option: go to the branch-off pack. Some Heartlands members are a bit iffy if apprentices decide to join them, as they view Heartlands to undoubtedly be the better pack of the two to learn from, but the new apprentice will otherwise earn -paw just as well as anyone, and will walk along the border as usual, before being escorted to the branch-off pack.

The BOP (hehe) is lead by Dustpaw and Beetlepaw, and the four members work hard to make themselves capable warriors.

Edit: Too lazy to go back and edit. Yellowfang's two pups, who I've literally just now named to be Blackpaw and Darkpaw (a jet male with blue eyes and a black male with orange eyes and dark-grey undersides, respectively), will also be part of BOP.

Day 54 (Feb 17th, 2021) Spring 1, Y3

More wolves continue to join Heartlands! This time, it’s a wolf around Berrypaw’s age. The teen in question is an orange male with lighter undersides, and blue eyes that shine with a hint of mischief. Jessie found him in an auction. The original owner said he was a rather raucous boy, and to be careful with him, but we don’t see anything wrong with him!

Berrypaw immediately takes a liking to the cocky, confident boy, and the latter seems to settle in well in Heartlands. Already, they are pulling pranks on the older members. Even Eaglestrike, Hailstorm, and Smokewood--Berrypaw’s closest friends--are not safe from his foolery. But the pranks are relatively harmless, so no serious action is taken to stop them.

His original name was Jake, but has since been changed to Sunpaw, with Snowtuft as his mentor. She wonder with annoyance why Barnaby always assigns the problem children to her.

Since Robinwish has long since relinquished her role as Herbalist to become a Hunter, Pinetree has been Herbalist for quite some time. He has no apprentice, but wolves like to help him around every now and then. With help, he prepares to gather and store herbs now that spring is here, and to prepare for the Tournament of Champions.

“Heartlands is such a large pack, though. It’ll take forever for the Tournament to end if everyone participates. Perhaps we should limit who joins?” Suggests Ourwin at a Council meeting with Barnaby, Sleekshade, Jessie, Austin, and Whitestorm. In the end, it’s decided that only three weeks be given for the Tournament, and that the last round will always have three wolves, meaning twelve wolves can participate. The adolescent Tournament will still be held.

When the news is given, everyone more or less seems okay with the idea, but few know how to determine which of the wolves will join the ceremony. A few wolves openly express staying out of it this year: Velvetwing, Jessie, Whitestorm, Pinetree, and Rainpaw. But so far, no one else has stepped up to step down. Barnaby decides that he’ll pick randomly, which somehow prompts many members to try to work harder than usual in an effort to seem like a good ‘random’ pick. He doesn’t mind.

A few days after Sunpaw’s arrival, Marigoldpaw has her Warrior ceremony. Since she has been here, Marigoldpaw has shown bravery and confidence in her capabilities, yet she does not let her skills give her an inflated ego, hence why she is not fond of Redtail, who has the biggest ego of them all. She had gotten along well with the members of Heartlands, particularly Lilypool, Yellowfang, Snowtuft, and Sootvine. Barnaby honors her for her humbleness and skill, and names her Marigoldshine.

Despite her overall kind and confident nature, her competitive nature--which usually manifests as nothing more than simple ‘bet I can beat you to the spring pools!’ or ‘bet I can catch a bigger muskrat than you!’--encompasses more than just her survival skills. Unbeknownst to all, she has her eyes set out for Sootvine. Only problem is, he’s already mates with Yellowfang. But she’s not concerned. In the end, she’ll get what she wants…

So anyways! During the first two of three weeks picking out who will join this year’s festival, Barnaby--aided by some Council members--pick Redtail, Snowtuft, Hailstorm, Swiftbriar, Sootvine, Marigoldshine, Pricklestep, Robinwish, Hazelglow, and Smokewood. Only two slots left...who will they be?

Days later edit: Okay I'm too lazy to finish up what I have for this day :'D But here's what I had so far:

Day 55 (Feb 18th, 2021) Spring 2, Y3

Robinwish is pregnant! Wolves are overjoyed by the news. For now, the female chooses to work a little while longer, but is careful not to get herself into any trouble. Austin acts like her shadow now, making sure she’s okay and has everything, and Robinwish doesn’t mind.

Swiftbriar drops out from this year’s Tournament, and now that Robinwish is pregnant, she drops out too. That leaves four open slots. The wolves chosen are Eaglestrike, Sleekshade, Ourwin, and Lilypool.

Soon enough, the second Tournament of Champions is upon us!

We’ll be doing it a little differently this time. I spend way too many hours on this game, so I’ve made the dice rolls more simple. Unfortunately, it makes winning entirely up to chance, but hopefully I can come up with a better idea for next year o^o

It was pretty much done. I just wanted to add a few sentences on how the fights went, include how Eaglestrike asked Barnaby to pair him up with Hailstorm and how they reacted to their fight together. You know, what I did last year. Before and after.

I can say...Pricklestep was given the pelt of a grey fox to wear as her prize. But I'm not gonna actually buy her one...5GC and a couple hundred SC to put it on one wolf is expensive to me :'D But hey, maybe one day I might actually buy custom decor for the winners.

All my SC is gone...I bought an arnica flower decor for 1,000SC. I really wanted it ;-;

On the bright side, I have the arnica flower decor!

Snake gave me an ez peezy fetch quest...already had the items down to 1-use...submitted and boom. Haven't had a hunt quest in a while :D

Thank you so much, Cloudeh, for giving me the arnica recipe for 1SC :') Now to try to get that 1K back xD

All my females are nicely decorated with the flowers, even Tawnypup <3 I do not yet have enough owl talons and toucan feathers to give necklaces to everyone & feathers to the boys, but thanks to Abstract_Worlds, we're even closer to getting to that goal! Man, you guys are so awesome. I love this community.

Haike, beloved writer of the Shiawase Clan Lore thread, gave me some owl talons :D We've now got enough for... *checks* 8 pack members to get necklaces! Holy jesus, that's 331 uses of owl talons. I wonder if I can donate those extra uses to people, and trust them to give the 1-use left back...hmm...

Guys, guys, theory time. I think I've finally figured out why the devs put Nelthyen's pack tracker thread in Clans & Families. It's because they knew it was going to turn into a cult. The devs can see the future.

Tala came to fight me for the first time ever! 40hp vs 55hp. Thought I'd lose, but I ended up coming out with 23hp to my name and a small meat chunk xD
