Nintendo Switch games?

Nintendo Switch games?
Posted 2020-12-25 23:35:39

My dad got me a Nintendo Switch for Christmas, since my sister loves hers so much... But he didn't get me any games. And I am OVERWHELMED by the number of options. Anybody have any recommendations? I don't like multiplayer games, but pretty much anything else goes.

Breath of the Wild was the first game I got on my switch and its a must have switch game and a great starter game!

Animal Crossing is fun as well!

Some other games I would recommend:

Pokemon Sword or Shield

Smash Bros

Hollow knight

Dragon Quest 11

Thank you for the recommendations! Is Breath of the Wild still a good one if I've never played a Zelda game before?

Yes it is! You learn things along with the character, Link, as in this game he has lost his memories. I think you'll like the game if you're all up for emotional scenes, heartwarming scenes, and funny scenes too. This game has it all. There's a reaosn why it was named the game of the year in 2017!

absolutely second animal crossing new horizons! i've sunk so many hours into it asdfghjkl

if you're into jrpg's the switch has a super solid collection tbh: final fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 (which are also often on sale), tales of vesperia, fire emblem three houses, digimon cyber sleuth... there's def more but off the top of my mind these are what come to mind c:

if you're into more casual games i'd def recommend (aside from acnh) super mario odyssey, mario kart 8, minecraft* and katamari damacy reroll (which is also just a big recommendation in general tbh i love this game asdfghjkl)

good luck with your game buying op! :>

* wouldn't recommend playing in handheld if you get motion sickness from games because good lord i get so nauseous after a couple hours orz

I can recommend a lot of the games that have already been mentioned. Zelda and Super Mario Odyssey are probably the two games I would most recommend as both are quality games.

For a cheaper option that gives you so much value for money, I’d recommend buying Stardew Valley off the eshop. It isn’t a switch exclusive game (you can also buy it on steam with the option of mods) but it works so well as a handheld experience and it keeps getting updated to this day (there was a pc update with many new features which will soon be brought to the console editions). Probably the genre defining farming/harvest moon game atm which you can spend hours in, and is a lot cheaper than most of the 1st/2nd Party options suggested.

Thanks everyone! I've gotten Breath of the Wild and so far I'm really liking it even though I'm REALLY bad at it. I've got Animal Crossing on my wishlist, but I think I'd prefer to wait and see if it goes on sale. I might pick up Stardew Valley,  I've heard good things. And I'm checking out the other games suggested too.

@Crown, I get so motion sick playing video games, especially in first person. Its so sad, because there's so many games that I think I'd like if I could only get more than five minutes in without getting nauseous. I'm hoping being able to have the screen wherever and the controls nearby will help with that a little - it seems to make a difference in Zelda, at least.

And if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm always down to add more things to my game wishlist.

aa i know!! motion sickness is the worst ; __ ; i couldn't get past like the third stage on mirror's edge on pc years ago because the game just made me so dizzy sobs

thankfully so far on switch the only game that wrecks me when playing handheld is minecraft, and spyro reignited trilogy to a lesser extent. but if i'm playing with the switch docked neither bother me thankfully c:

Breath of the Wild is a must! Never played a Zelda game before, fell in love with the franchise over this summer. I even went and bought second hands Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. I have 370+ h of gameplay on botw, I believe, aha. And I’ve only had it since July 2020, lol.

EDIT : I’m glad to learn that you bought it!

Animal crossing might be fun if you enjoy laid-back games, I used to be fan of the franchise until I had a “stare into the abyss and the abyss stares back” moment, when I realized I should probably spend the time doing these mondaine activities with irl friends instead, aha

I wish I could recommend Pokémon Sword and Shield, but I heard they are the worst of the franchise. Even as a long term fan (since Yellow!), I decided to opt out of buying. It’s mostly all the required extra expenses that irks me a lot. Excuse me, I have to pay 20€ a month in order to trade online? Something that was free up until now? Something that was a core aspect of the series up until now? The reason why there has been two games each time (and before the Internet, the link cable was a buy once type of thing). So, I’d say buy the games second hand if you really want them.

I heard many good things about Octopath Traveler. I bought the game, but haven’t played it yet because I’m still sucked into the world of botw, aha. Your in game choices have apparently impacts on how NPC react to your characters, so that’s super neat. Plus I find the game really pretty.

I also bought Hyrule Warriors : Age of Calamity, which serves as a “prequel” to botw. It’s a hack and slash type of game, very fast pace. I actually hurt my thumbs/wrists playing it, since it’s the first time I’ve played a fast-paced game. I don’t think you’d get motion sickness from it... though I can say that I don’t think I’ll buy more hack and slash game, aha. Maybe once you’ve played botw, you could try the demo for AoC, and see if you enjoy the gameplay. I do enjoy it, though.

Fire Emblem : Three Houses is also a great game that you can spend many hours in. Lovely bunch of characters, engaging multi-path story. It’s a strategy game. I recommend checking reviews to see if you’d like it.

There’s also some independent games in the e-shop that you may want to buy, but all I can recommend is to check it yourself. I know I don’t tend to check these out too much because I like having physical versions of games, aha.
