Nintendo Switch games?

Posted 2020-12-30 19:59:03

Always recommend Animal Crossing. It's hardly comparable to the other AC games though as I'm sure you've heard. The villagers are personalityless and it doesn't have that charm that it always has - but the game is really pretty to look at and play. Very slow-paced.

I love Pokémon Sword/Shield. Despite the extra expenses (like TheGuardian mentioned), I thought the game was really pretty and I love the new generation of Pokémon in general. It's easily the most easy Pokémon game to advance in, though... I let it spoil me and tried to play Blue and Firered and ended up having a hell of a wakeup call realizing the older Pokémon games are a lot harder. Lol

Age of Calamity is a great game, I actually find it very therapeutic despite being a fast-paced game. And it's cool to see things with the the BoTW art/animation before everything got destroyed.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is another great one, but if you've played Smash before you know how difficult the game is. My boyfriend has around 600 hours on the game and is only fairly decent at it. I want to get better but I don't really have the time. It's also a really pretty game, very nice to look at with stellar graphics.

Heard great things about Stardew Valley, never played it myself but might in the future.

Splatoon 2 is fun, very nice to look at, but relatively repetative. I like it, but I think most people don't.

Animal Crossing: Hew Horizons - It's peaceful, chill, and you can decorate your house, island, and yourself however you want. AND!!! Unlike previous games, it's way more gender neutral. If you put on a dress, you don't instantly run all 'dainty', and the Able sisters don't make any gender-related comments about clothing and accessories you buy. Wanna buy a beard and a frilly dress and wear them out of the fitting room? Mable will simply tell you you look great and be happy you found some stuff you like.
Stardew Valley - Kinda Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons but with its own twists and charms, always recommend
Minecraft - because I mean, it's Minecraft. A classic.
Summer In Mara - a very soft and cute farming and exploration game with a cute story and a relaxed pace
A Short Hike - A calm, feel-good game. It's not a long game, but it's a game I got while having an anxiety attack and in an hour I felt wonderfully peaceful again. The dev said he made it with the specific vibe of 'everything's gonna be okay.'
Pokemon Sword/Shield - I adore pokemon and have since I was 5. Doubt that'll change anytime soon. And going camping with your pokemon and having them turn to look at you and give you a big goofy smile warms my heart.
Asphalt 9: Legends - In case you like racing games.
Ninjala - Imagine if Fortnite and Splatoon had an easier (but not at all in a bad way) kid without the cringy community of Fortnite.
Calico - You can ride giant bunnies and carry tiny kitties on your head. Or put the kitty on the bunny's head while you're riding it so you can put a baby bear on your own head instead. What more could you want?
My Time At Portia - Once again, another Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons-esque game, with its own spins here and there.

And those are just the games I do have. (I'd have many more if I weren't so strapped for cash just. Constantly.) I didn't recommend Breath of the Wild only because I hear you already bought it. But I dearly love Breath of the Wild as well. Been a long-time Zelda fan, it wasn't my first game, and it won't be my last.

I haven't played any other AC games, so comparisons won't be an issue for me. Same with Pokemon - my mother had a weird dislike of Pokemon when I was a kid, so I've never played any except for occassionally playing Pokemon Go on my way to work.

I saw a trailer for Calico the other day and it looks precious. I've heard it's really buggy though? Or is that just the PC version (the reviews I saw were via Steam).

Thanks for all the recs so far everyone! My wishlist is steadily growing.

It is kinda buggy, and on switch the A button and B functions are swapped which is confusing, so maybe it's better to get it on Steam instead, but they seem to be working on updates and bug fixes, so I personally still think it's a nice game to get!

Hard recommend on ACHN and BOTW (I have 664 hours on ACHN o dear LORD-)

I'm a really big rpg fan so a lot of my choices are very much skewed in that direction but the switch has such variety you can find something you'll like if you look. Do you like turn-based combat? Octopath is gorgeous and has many different protags with wildly different stories and motivations team up to help each other along their goals. If you don't like one story there's many more that can pick up the slack. It's also very pretty but a bit grindy. Do you like more open world rpgs with a lot to do? Skyrim is ported on switch. Or if you want open world (ish) and rich story I am so hyperfixated on Final Fantasy XII the zodiac age it's not even a joke anymore. It's a problem. (Some of my wolves are named after characters from that game)

Do you like more minigame orientated games that are a bit goofy but still a lot of fun? Death Road to Canada is a personal fav for that zombie slaughter. You can even make yourself and friends! Hollow Knight is a good buy no matter the platform for free-form exploration with a story you discover as you go along. Switch very also very pretty.

Then there are high relaxation games like Stardew (so nice to crawl into bed after a long day and farm). I also really like Firewatch which is a walking sim but it has a kind of sad kind of spooky plot between the protagonist Henry (he has a name and a personality he's not just a vector for you to control like other walking sims) and a lady on a radio named Delilah. It also has a free roam mode if you just want to wander the wilderness and goof off (I'm a big fan of that one)

Basically just view the eshop and you'll find something lmao. I hope this helped though!

I'm going to advise stardew valley, I'm addicted to it. It is a really cute game thats really immersive. Plus the new 1.5 update is coming out on console soon ( January? ) and it adds tons of quality of life features. Plus, it's more than a farming game ( a farming, mining, fighting, story, romance, fishing and slice of life ) with tons of little secrets that make it an amazing game

I love RPGs, like Skyrim, Bioware games, etc. I haven't played any Final Fantasy games, but I've got a friend who LOVES them so I may check them out at some point? So far I've just been too intimidated by the sheer size of the franchise. I actually have Hollow Knight on my PC already, I just haven't actually played it yet.

I like the high relaxation games specifically for the end of the day - I have terrible insomnia and when I was younger I would actually fall asleep playing low-key games on my DS because I was more likely to fall asleep that way than just lying in bed.

I have Firewatch on my computer too but I couldn't play it because it's in first person and it made me sick. I'm really hoping playing on the Switch will make first person games more accessible to me because there's so many that look good that I just can't play on my computer. (words can't express how badly I want to play Dishonored)

Just got Story Of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town today, and I am adding that to my list of recommended games. Not that I didn't already know it would be great (I racked up so.... SO many hours in the original version), but I try not to reccomend games I don't personally have.

My first switch game was Let's Go Eevee - a lot of longtime pokemon fans (I myself have been a pokemon fan for almost 20 years) dislike it because it's very easy and deviates a lot from the base mechanics, but I love it a lot.

Sword/Shield are very good, but far from my favorite in the franchise. I don't regret buying Sword at full price but I'd recommend buying it used at a cheaper price.

Fire Emblem Three Houses is one of my favorite switch games as well. Even if you've never played a FE game before it explains the gameplay quite well and is a unique addition to the franchise.

Cattails is one of my favorite games of all time - I have it for PC but it is also available on Switch. It's basically Stardew Valley with cats, or Warrior Cats with capitalism (but in a fun way).

Other games I can recommend are Stardew Valley if you've never played it, Monster Sanctuary, and the Shelter games - the Switch has a pack including two of the Shelter games.
