Nintendo Switch games?

Cattails is NOT basically Stardew Valley with cats in the slightest. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, but it's not like Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley has so many things to do, with so much variety. Cattails has significantly less.

All the comparisons to Stardew Valley got my hopes up way too high for it. There's zero modding capability even if you get it on PC, and a solid like 65% of gameplay is just walking around, fighting other cats, with mining and hunting sprinkled into the walking around and fighting. The other 35% is actually story and relationship building and such.

Cattails is good, but comparing it to Stardew Valley can actually potentially damage a potential players enjoyment of the game. It certainly did for me.

It's way closer to kinda-like-an-AU-Warrior-Cats-turned-into-a-game than anything involving Stardew Valley. Considering the devs previously made at least one Warrior Cats game in the exact same visual style from what I saw, that's not surprising, really.

ooohh man. ive been stalking this to see if anybody had any suggestions. but im gonna throw my two cents in >:D

animal crossing new horizons: never, ever, have i played any other animal crossing game. but i love it!!! its so peaceful and fun;;; only thing is is im currently not playing bc my island is a mess sob and it costs a lot of bells to make my island how i want LMFAO. one tip: plan ahead, honestly.

pokemon sword/shield: once again i have never, ever played a pokemon game. but i love it. i love the progression and the fun to be had. you can do what you want within a limit. wanna run around battling and camping??? sure. camping is so fun too, i love playing w my pokemon and seeing them interact with one another. i think half of my hours in that game are legit. just that.

mario odyssey: typical mario game honestly;;; i love it though. its fun to kick back and relax. the cap adds some new features and "spice" to the game too!!

now,,, here are the games i own on other platforms & id recommend!!! idk how good they are to play on the switch but..

ori & the blind forest + ori and the will of the wisps: ive played ori and the blind forest and,, my god. its a stunning game and i love it to pieces. very much a platformer. it has an amazing story, and i heard from my friend the second one even caused him to shed a tear. 11/10. play it

cattails: gonna be honest: cattails is pretty boring at its core. as Crow said.. you're essentially running around foraging, hunting, and battling other cats, alongside a very loose main story quest (which is collecting items). you can pick to become apart of a clan, and help them battle & get more territory. you can also (eventually) date another cat and have kittens. its not very exciting but there's something quite tranquil about it. i find myself playing it when i just want to relax and have fun and..not have to think LMAO

stardew valley: i've played it on pc and i have to admit,,, the only reason i play it is because i can use mods. im not into grindy slow games (usually). but underneath that, its a lot of fun to play, and progress in. just- yeah, wouldn't play without mods

skyrim: also the same as the above. its a great rpg but mods just make it..so much better. that being said, if smth like skyrim is your thing, i'd recommend checking it out and giving it a go!

spyro: its a cute game and one i enjoy;;; def nicer to play with controller though honestly. i'd recommend it!

the first tree: its a small walking style game with some puzzles. you progress through the story collecting stars which tell more of the story as you go along. i've played it a few times now and genuinely, i love it each time. its only 2-3 hours of gameplay at best, but its a wonderfully told story and one i love a lot!

Ah come on lol, it was a half- joke. But no, I disagree, while Cattails has less things to do it has an extreme Stardew Valley vibe, especially with the relationships system, the bundles system, the mines, the seasonal events, etc. It very obviously took at least some inspiration from games like Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley/etc.

Edit: Even the game devs say Harvest Moon was one of their primary inspirations: https://cattailsgame.proboards.com/thread/4326/cattails-stardew-valley

I don't really have anything else to say on this matter, so let's agree to disagree. /shrug

I don't know, I don't really think sharing a few game features really makes a game "-insert game- but with -insert thing-" as so many people like to call it. (Plus it's hard to tell any level of joking over text, especially when so many people aren't saying it in a jokey manner.) It's not just about certain mechanics, but how they're used and the entire vibe of the game. Not once in Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley are you forced into only interacting with a certain limited number of people until late in the game, nor are you in a state of concern for your safety in the overworld (unless you pick the monster farm in Stardew, and even then that's only at night). Being inspired by something does not that something make, ya know?

Like I said, I'm not insulting the game. I like it! I wouldn't have bought it twice if I didn't (both PC and Switch). It's just that comparison and the way it's so frequently worded genuinely damaged my appreciation for the game a bit because while there are similar mechanics, there are also many completely different mechanics that give it a completely different vibe from the vibe I get playing Stardew or the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games, and I want to prevent anyone from going in with the wrong expectations influenced by that comparison and wording like I did.

Perhaps more apt wording would be "Inspired by Stardew Valley-like games but with a lot of its own spin".

Well, regardless of inspirations or similarities, Cattails was on sale for less than $2 when i went to check it out, so its been added to my library. I've only just started playing, but it seems fun so far!
