thats so sweet im happy that you made your friend happy :) there was a while i couldnt have any stuff like dairy and a bunch of other essentially non-vegan stuff because it messed up my stomach really bad because i was sick and i struggled to find recipes for stuff that tasted good. like they always tasted extremely different to the point of bad. it was a huge pain. ill definitely look into some of the stuff you suggested because although the stuff doesnt affect me anymore, ill get bad stomach pains occasionally as like a side-affect of me being sick, even though it was months ago. and ill definitely search for some stuff online too! |

SOFT GASP hello I love this thread idea! I absolutely love baking! (And...may have been doing some amount of stress baking since quarantine started.) I'm going to go back and read through all five pages of this thread in a minute, but to start off, here are a couple pictures I'm proud of: A top-down view of a small cake that I made a few days ago! It's pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting! I actually ran out of frosting as soon as I finished the top, so the sides are plain, but I'm really happy with how the top came out. Macarons with whipped chocolate ganache filling, from a while ago! Macarons are the bane of my existence but I'm determined to get them right eventually. This particular macaron came out really nicely but a few in the batch had cracked tops. An older cake that I made for my boyfriend's birthday. This one was amaretto cake with cherry buttercream and chocolate ganache. I don't think I've ever managed to get as perfect a ganache drip since, either. |

@WolfyFC I don't know if someone answered already, but it's sugar mixed with vanilla bean/extract and it's a very common baking ingredient in Finland and other some European countries. I think you could just substitute it with little bit more sugar and just adding a little vanilla extract? It doesn't make anything to taste like vanilla really, just additional sweetener. |

Wow ! In love with this thread already ! I like baking from time to time and I'm asbolutely not an expert but it's just so fun and relaxing. I tend to be better at regular cooking than baking tho... I think it's because with baking you really need to be precise and measure everything. And when I'm cooking it's far from that lmao. More like ' A little bit of this, a lot more of that '... Just following my intuitions haha ! If anyone here has cool recipes I'd love to try them. I'll be sure to post a picture ( even if I failed, even if I failed REAL HARD lmao ) |

@Baby, @WolfyFC, thank you both for the compliments! I wish I could share the cake, right now it's just me and my boyfriend slowly eating the entire thing. @DaggerDietriech, here are a few ideas to get you started! Pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting - I doubled this recipe to make 3 6-inch cake rounds for the cake I posted above. Super easy to make and seasonally appropriate! Ginger molasses cookies - one of my favorite types of cookie! Also very seasonal and easy to make. The recipe makes a huge batch so we usually freeze a lot of dough and have it on hand to bake up a couple whenever we want cookies. And a French macaron recipe if you're feeling ambitious, they're such a pain but so impressive to get right. |

Thanks for the ideas Selkie ! I definitely want to try the ginger molasses cookies first ! I'll post a picture once I get it done ! French macaron are indeed, super difficult to make. Never got it right yet. But good macarons are so tasty, it's really worth the pain and effort. |
