Halloween Event!

With what was added this year, the spells are amazing, thank you. How vigor is made, not so amazing. Please give us QoL when sacrificing, it sucks. As for the story, it was fine. It was short and I didn't feel very connected to anything that was going on, but it told what it set out to tell. There are oddities in how it was written, like Avaritia namedropping herself in chapter 4, Kora magically forgetting who I was, and Namir suddenly becoming a main character, and I hope some of these hiccups will be ironed out for next year. Some of the storyline art was really pretty, Kora in all forms looks awesome, the NPC decor was a cool surprise, and I find the attitude of the NPCs to be hilarious. They were often condescending and you could reciprocate, I like playing the prick in storylines and this one scratched that itch. It has been talked to death, but choosing sides has been rough for many players. Some dialogue choices seemed to change your siding and some didn't, many had asterisks and none explained what they meant. Perhaps hindsight and the boon of a guide will make things clearer someday, but for the first experience, I can get why people were baffled. To be very clear, I really like the idea of being able to change your mind, even to the point of backstabbing at the end. This event felt like it had more options of what you could say and do than any other event so far. But the execution wasn't fully there. No surprise on my last note, the bugs. I will be blunt, there has been so many. Initial story encounters showing up nonstop without progressing, chapter 2 starting earlier than intended, quest progress resetting at random, typos and broken images galore, items used for vigor being inconsistent, error codes when using spells, witch-sided players being able to indefinitely corrupt for ME, the spellbook link breaking numerous times, dialogue choices breaking and stopping people's progress... I wanted to list some (not all) of them so players can really understand just how broken this event was. While yes, a good bit of this will be gone next year, having an event launch in such a state is egregious. Most of my fun came from making jokes with other players, our way of making light of it all. For many of us, we were waiting for the storyline to finish so we could just get it over with. And that's deeply unfortunate. Overall, the event has steadily built up these past 3 years into a nice addition to our roster of month-long events. But the storyline that was added this month needed so much more TLC than it was given. I know I sound negative, but I'm simply trying to be upfront. I want to be constructive, even if I'm not the greatest at conveying it. I'm interested to see how it all goes when we reset for next October, I will definitely be trying out a different route to see where the story goes. |

I also feel it was kind of very basic and short and when it comes to characters I felt they weren't really complex, more like the archetypes of evil-doing witch and casted out rebel. I feel like Saliglia's motivations are nothing interesting, just doing evil for power/sake of being evil. And it was dissapinting a bit, for the villain to be so basic and boring. I liked Namir though as he, at first, was introduced as somehow arrogant and later you can convince him to help you and he actually is able to recognize his mistakes so he has more than one character trait and some personality. |
