Wolf Sizes

Wolf Sizes

My friend and I were talking about ways to add a little more “personality” and make each wolf a little more unique, and came up with the idea of wolf “sizes”.

Each wolf has a height/length that’s randomly generated from a range (likely the range of real wolves, maybe a tad above/below too). Just so there’s a little more to make a wolf unique (and can add some flavor when writing about them!)

We also discussed maybe runt and largest pups having a slightly different range, maybe 5-10% smaller or larger than the normal range.

If individual randomized numbers are too complicated (because wolves will naturally be different sizes when pups, adolescents, and adults), it could even be as simple as Very Small/Small/Smaller Than Average/Average/Larger Than Average/Large/Very Large. (I’d like a slightly larger range, but this is a decent example).

Maybe the range for most wolves is actually Small-Large, and runts and largest have the chance of being Very Small/Very Large, and no possibility of being Large/Small respectively.

I think this idea is cute!

It would be cool if size could be bred for and also influenced stats when first born... but that might be asking too much. Just spitballin'! Edit: I think the stat/size thing might already be in play a little with Runt vs Biggest Pup but am not sure because I've never had a litter that size.

I like this! Maybe it could be loosely linked to stats (bigger wolf=more strength stat ; Longer legs=better speed stat)? It would also give some more art diversity that doesn't require too much change in the current art (in my opinion… I am not an artist or well versed in technology). Although I know id get a kick out of a runt being a very large wolf, I like the idea of them strictly being smaller or very small. This could also be where dwarfism and dire/over large are introduced.

See, I wouldn’t necessarily make it linked to stats or art changes. Just a little bit of trivia, if you will, about a wolf. Something with no real mechanical effect, but can help with flavor when writing, or something possibly amusing when you’ve got an unexpected size category on a wolf.

I like this idea. FR has it and its super cute to think about with different members of the same breed there!

I love it, it's a cute idea! Though length is a little weird to me, height would be fun!
Also would be so cute to see size effect flavor text on wolf pages if it is ever added - your lead teasing short wolves or short wolves doing things that only they can do.

I like this idea. Specifically I like the ideas of it being (1) just trivia, not related to stats or art changes, but also (2) influencing flavor text (dialogues between pack members? NBWs smack-talking your short lead? special hunting/scouting/exploring flavor text for large or small wolves?).

edit: If size is heritable it also opens up breeding possibilities! I could see a market for extra large or extra small studs.
