Limit the Number of Trades a Player Can Post

Posted 2020-11-16 18:49:36

I support. Perhaps it could be coupled with more sorting/filtering options as well, like you said. To the point that's been raised that it would make selling more difficult: I find selling difficult when I immediately get buried under pages and pages of spammed listings for a similar iterm. It also restricts me as a buyer when I would like to see options or variation in listing, but first I have to wade through one users multiple pages of homogeneous posts.

One thing that could be an option is queued listings. For instance, if Im going away on vacation and I would like to list 75[items] but the cap is 50 active listings, a queue system would allow a user to write all 75, and then when one sells, the next goes up.

No support. The issue you describe would be better adressed by creating more filtering options, or options to sort trades, or a shorter time limit before a trade expires.

There's very limited ways to make SC (and GC, if you don't have the means to just go ahead and buy it) and the trading center is... The main one. Limiting people's use of it just doesn't sit right with me.

Just popping back here, but there was another comment mentioned about having a "spam limit" or "cooldown". The problem with this is if a user might only be able to jump on wolvden once or twice a day, like in the morning before school/work and then in the evening before bed. They might want to put all their trades up and bump existing ones before they need to leave again, and if there was something that limited them doing that it could make it harder for them to make sales.

No support, as this would hinder more players then it would help.

I honestly don't really see how it would hurt most players. Most players do not have a need to put up 10 or more pages of the same thing. Most people would be perfectly fine with a reasonable limit of 50 or 100 trades, putting up more as things sell.

And the idea of "well, they can only get on once a day" doesn't mean they need to put up 200+ trades. They can just as easily put up a reasonable number and replace any that sell the next day.

As to "limiting", almost everything on this game is limited to prevent it being abused? Why should the Trading Center be any different? We're limited in the number of wolves we can have by paying (and I think even that is limited to 200 max). We're limited in hunts. We're limited in how many medicines we can make (no more than 5 at a time if the Herbalist has max energy). We're limited in how many scouts we can have. And there are many other examples.

If it's not unfair to limit everything else, I really don't see why limiting trades to a reasonable level is going to be so game-ending for most of the players.

I don't want to have to mess with trades multiple times a day or week if I don't have to. If I have items to sell, I'd rather put them all up at once, be done with it till i'm ready to sell again. Your suggestion favors ONLY people who can play wolvden  a lot, and puts players that have RL stuff to do at a greater disadvantage.

You can still only put up trades once a week if you want?

How is it forcing you to play more? If you still only want to check up once a week, you can? I would assume most players don't have 100+ trades going at any given moment so it really wouldn't stop you from putting up 100 trades and then 100 more whenever you feel the urge?

At the moment, I have... 13 trades on the trading center? That's wolves alone. I have several pups that still need to be weaned, so that'll be 9 more in the coming week. That'll be 22 trades.

Now, I've got some spare medicines left over. In my experience, bundling these things into one trades makes them sell worse or even not sell at all, so that's going to be a seperate trade for each. 6 more trades based on my current stock- 28 trades.

Now onto amusement items, and boy howdy, do I have a lot. I could try and bundle these, but again, in my experience, they sell better seperately- I assume because a lot of people are in there for quest items. so lets say 20 more trades. 48 total.

Well, now I'm 2 away from the 50 trade limit and I haven't even looked at food items (based on what I've got, 5 more trades), herbs (based on what I've got, probably 40+ more trades), den materials (+10) and whether or not I want to exchange some currency today.
Now granted I almost never use the trading post for anything but wolves because its a bit too clunky and I don't like having to check so many pages to figure out how I should be setting my buyouts. But I don't even invest so much time in the game, and I've got excess resources enough to make over 100 trades, so it really isn't so hard for me to imagine players who do use the trading center more frequently being negatively effected by that limit.

The limits on most things on the game are there to limit new resources coming in. The trading center isn't new resources, its resources already present being moved from player to player.

I stand by my original post- no support.
If the trading center is so arduous to use, there's a sales forum you can use instead?

Not support. Putting up dozens of trade at the same moment is my main source for earning SC/GC.

@closet a lot of those can be stored in your hoard till you sell items and replace them (herbs/toys/cave supplies). People are tossing out random numbers as examples- the idea and the main problem is that the trading center either needs a limit or better filtering/moderation of trades. The way people use it make it hard to use and annoying unless youre only looking for a hyper specific item.

I browse currency markets now and then and the filter doesnt filter out people who are actually selling wolves or items and put 10 sc in the listing to get around the filter.

A limit is appealing because then it makes the trading center much more manageable for users and hopefully would discourage users from making dumb posts (ex. The "lit 1sc for 100gc" posts )--it doesnt have to be 50 or 100 those are just examples.
