Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-03 10:42:33

I support with the idea that males have a breeding cooldown of 20 days. With that said they wont have a limited number of days to breed like females do. Even on lioden it didnt make sense to me since there are cases of more then one male ruling and breeding within a pride, but here it seems a bit more annoying. Personally I do find males useful as I breed alot so its helpful to balance me out and I dont have to deal with energy penalties. But beyond the consensus seems to be that males are just undesirable right now

Having males and females on the same cool down would lead to breeding pairs syncing up and encourage people to have fixed breeding pairs without being forced in to it.

Big support! This would be more accurate to rl wolf behaviour, likely cut down on breeding, and increase the value of male pups!

Completely support allowing males to breed within their pack on a cooldown.

Personally, I'd still seek out studs a) to keep lines clean and interesting and b) it's just fun, but it would be nice to not feel obligated to sex change every wolf that comes into my pack for them to be of any value to me.

@serpent honestly i see no issue in having the male cool down be the same as females, because then they would pretty much have the same reproductive potential as females except they couldn't be bred outside the pack (like females with studs). but i mean, if the developers determined that males breeding would only be allowed with a longer cooldown, i wouldn't make a fuss haha! it seems unnecessary, but if it's the compromise necessary then absolutely! i would still prefer for them to have the same cool down time, though, just so that if I pair two wolves cuz they're in looove then they're breeding cycles will coordinate, y'know? but i tend to care too much about pixels haha ^^'

I honestly think they likely won't do this solely because people will spend less GC retiring & replacing their breeding males early rip. BUT that said I support it 1000%! I've said this on other posts of this nature but:

a) the current system feels too similar to LD, and what I love about WD so far (and what devs and players both often say) is not to expect WD to be like LD (in terms of HP, difficulty levels, etc). I'd love it to be different w/ breeding, too!

b) as a player who loves both lore and breeding, I think the current system makes it hard to do both! If I want to breed, I have to just make everyone female & breed everyone to the same male all the time. which gets pretty weird story-wise. and if I want to write lore, I have to keep around males who can't have kids & take space away from females who could help with my breeding goals.

This might CHANGE the pup & stud market but imo it won't ruin it! People already mass-breed, and 'traditional breeding' might become more prevalent; that's still trades w/ currency changing hands, it's just with females instead of males. So 'reverse studding' might become a more viable way to make SC, and regular studding MIGHT become slightly less viable (though ppl will still always be looking to add new marks, stats, etc from outside wolves, IMO, and will never stop studding completely). I don't think that would ruin the market, it would just make it different!

@VaugeShapes i suppose so since a similar breeding cooldown wouldn't lead to too more pups anyway right? Since only the Females give birth to pups?

^ Exactly what @Badger said! I would be able to alternate which females get to breed to a certain male, or pair two wolves up exclusively. It would allow for flexibility and discourage mass-breeding, as if a player had a special male that wasn't a stud, they would either have to pay to replace the pack's current stud, or skip one of their female's heats

@Seprant- Yep! The females would still be the ones having the litters, so nobody would be able to breed any more puppies than they can already

I agree with Treeling on the fact that putting it as a grove item would be bad. I’m really bad at explaining, but I can already see some cons with doing that.

@aravel hmm, im really not with the idea that you would need to buy an item every single time, but i wouldn't have a problem with male breeding working something like the pup stages. if they need the money that bad, then they can lock it behind a pay-once feature and i would find that pretty fair
