Pause RO-based rewards and Member Leaderboards during the server change

TL;DR: During the server upgrade some players won't be able to access the site for up to 48 hours (based on location). To stop players from failing streaks, it would be nice if the daily RO rewards, Daily RO leaderboards, and Quest leaderboards were paused until all players can access the site again.

On the 17th of November 2023 the devs officially announced in this post that the site's server will be upgraded. This is a really great change, however it's a huge undertaking and they warned the site may be inaccessible for some users for up to 48 hours in some regions for technical reasons.

Wolvden is very forgiving with it's Rollover system, so not being able to roll for a couple of days isn't going to affect much. However there are 3 gameplay elements that will be impacted:

  • The Daily RO reward - Every day that you continue a RO streak, you get a reward ending with an RMA. This is a fun reward to encourage players to play every day, but it would be broken if a player couldn't access the site while the server change was happening and would prevent them from claiming a better prize.

  • The RO Leaderboard - One of the members leaderboards on the site is a "total RO's" board. There are enough players at the max ROs that the board can't show them all, but players who couldn't access the site during the server change would lose out on a day or more and never appear on the board again.

  • The Quest Leaderboard - The other member leaderboard shows the number of quests players have completed since the questing update. This is arguably a more competitive board than the total RO board since the board shows multiple scores. Not having the board freeze would cause some players to shoot up or miss quests. There's 3 of us at the top (Pigeon counts - her score is bugged) only a month away from hitting the 2500 quest achievement and it would be heartbreaking to lose that streak now
My suggestion is that these features could be paused while the server change is happening to stop players from missing out. The server change is something that's being planned out in advance, and while there's going to be a lot of manpower put towards making that change smooth, it'd be nice if these gameplay aspects could be protected too. Pausing them until all players can access the site again would be great.

(If there's anything I've missed that could be affected please let me know and I'll add it! I'm not counting things like the stat leaderboards since the wolves involved won't age up at that time, but I'll happily add anything else that makes sense)

Big support here!! Some of us have worked literal years to maintain different streaks (daily quests, rollover count…) and I for one would be quite upset if something like a server update destroyed all my progress.

I see no cons for doing it, so why not do us nerds a favour and freeze the leaderboards until everything is completely updated.

I think that simply shutting down the servers for a day or two wouldn't be a bad idea. That way the devs can move stuff in peace and players won't have to worry that someone might not have access to the game while others do. That way everyone will be treated equally.

Big support! I would also be happy if the servers were entirely shut down for a day or two, to ensure that things are fair for all players. It would prevent mishaps like someone accidentally rolling, being hit with midday maintenance, and then being unable to complete their hunts/feed their wolves.

Very excited for the server upgrade and (hopefully) an end to lag and 502s!

Agree with Jera! I'd be completely fine with the servers being fully down for a couple days in order to finalize everything.

Also, supporting the original idea because I don't want to lose my streaks.

Agreeing with the others, having the servers shut down seems a good way to go about this - it won't be for long anyways, just a few days so no one loses streaks during maintenance

Support. It's been over three years -- I do not want to lose my leaderboard status because of the server change. Pretty please pause the leaderboard for the duration.

No opinion on pausing the entire site. As long as the leaderboard stays still.
