[UPDATED] Cataclysms Cryptids 2023 Spreadsheet
Posted 2023-08-01 10:57:49 (edited)
Update: Misread the news post, so I am editing the spreadsheet to reflect the proper number of cryptids.
Update 2: The spreadsheet has been edited and I've changed the information below to reflect that.

HERE is a spreadsheet I made in Google docs for anyone who wants to keep track of the cryptids they've found and where without any spoilers!

I've used the COUNTA and SUM formulas and some conditional formatting to make it super easy to use and read. I've also done my best to make it colorblind friendly, but I am always willing to get feedback from actual colorblind people and adjust accordingly. (Just please don't be rude about it.) Because of how Google Sheets' dark mode works on mobile, this is best used on desktop or in light mode.

Here's how to use it:
  1. Open the link above.

  2. Click "File" and then "Make a copy".

  3. Change the name of the file if you want and then click the second "Make a copy" button. (This saves a copy in your own drive that you can edit and will immediately open it in a new tab.)

  4. As you find cryptids, just type their name in one of the boxes for that biome.

And here's how it works:
  • The column with the biome names is frozen so that it stays fixed when you scroll side to side, that way you can always easily see which biome is which line.

  • The COUNTA formulas I added automatically count how many boxes in each biome's row have something written in them and shows that number in the totals column.

  • If the number is less than 6 (the number of cryptids in a biome last year), it will be written in white on a dark red background.

  • If the number is between 6 and 8, it will be written in black on a medium yellow background.

  • If the number is exactly 9 (the total number of cryptids in a biome this year), it will be written in black on a light green background.

  • There is a thick line border between the first six boxes in a row and the last three. This is in case you want to keep the new and old cryptids separate. You can ignore this border or remove it (see below).

  • The SUM formula I added then automatically adds up the totals for each biome to give you a grand total underneath the totals column.

  • If the grand total is less than 72 (the total number of cryptids last year), it will be written in white on a dark red background.

  • If the grand total is between 72 and 107, it will be written in black on a medium yellow background.

  • If the grand total is exactly 108 (the total number of cryptids this year), it will be written in black on a light green background.

Feel free to muck about with the formatting.
If you want to change or get rid of the color changing part:
  1. Highlight the totals column and right click - or highlight the grand total box and right click.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and hover over "View more cell actions". A smaller menu will open up off to the side.

  3. In the smaller menu click "Conditional formatting". A sidebar will pop up with the rules and examples of the text.

  4. In the sidebar, click on a rule to change it. Or hover over it and click the trash icon that shows up to get rid of it.

If you want to get rid of the thick line border in the middle:
  1. Highlight cells H1 through H12.

  2. Click the "Borders" menu in the top.

  3. Make sure your "Border style" (bottom right button in the "Borders" menu) is set to the first option.

  4. Click the "Left border" button (bottom left button).

Note: You can also do this by highlighting G1 through G12 and clicking the "Right border" button instead.

Happy Cataclysms!
