Athanasios was named by his mother; the name meaning "Immortal" in Greek.

Athanasios and his sister Dongmei were born on a chilly autumn night, nestling closely to their mother Aurae. The duo had inherited their father's strength and size alongside their mother's beauty and were held with high regard inside the pack due to their canine bloodline, even if the dog they were related to was not of Seraphina's lineage. Since their birth, they had been doted upon by parents and pack mates alike. When they were old enough to venture beyond the pack grounds, Athanasios was the first to explore the unfamiliar surroundings.

His sister was favored by most of the pack for her white soft-tipped ears, which bore a resemblance to Esmae, a canine within the alpha's lineage. Athanasios secretly envied her for this, the way she was capable of drawing attention to herself simply by existing, but never held it against her. He knew deep down she would never do such a thing to make him feel excluded. Often, he accompanied his father Xuĕ on hunts when this happened, to clear his mind. Athanasios enjoyed watching his father take down large prey, even if he never wanted to do so himself-- instead, he aspired to be a scout.

Things changed when Leiana approached Dongmei. The scout had taken a liking to her and offered to mentor his sister, as the previous scout had died a few months before and the pack still needed a replacement. Dongmei seemed uncertain at first, and asked for a few days to think it over. Athanasios was crushed, but urged his sister to pursue her dreams, even if that meant she would be taking his spot. He tried his best to be encouraging, but knew that Dongmei knew something was up. A few days later, she returned to Leiana with a proposition.

"I'll agree to your offer under one condition!" Dongmei had stated in an authoritative voice Athanasios had never heard before. She nodded to the chromium-colored wolf, and he gave Leiana a friendly grin, although he was confused. What was the condition? They had never spoken of one. His sister turned back to the scout, offering a smile. "Athanasios is guaranteed to be the next scout once you step down."

Both Leiana and Athanasios were surprised, and he felt overjoyed. Embracing his sister in a hug, tail wagging uncontrollably, he looked towards Leiana for an answer. The oriode-colored wolf pondered for a few moments, before permitting herself a smile and nodding. "Okay." Leiana agreed, "it's a deal. I've got a brother of my own, so I understand."

Athanasios was excited, but he knew he would still have to wait. Dongmei was often busy, accompanying Leiana on her scouting trips so that she could be mentored. He found himself somewhat lonely, without his sister by his side. Still, he was determined to not stay idle, and so he accompanied his father's hunting team-- the Bloodtrail Beserkers-- on their trips. He learned a lot from his father. Although the dog was small (even smaller than Athanasios, now that the wolfdog was an adult) his size did not hinder his ability to take down prey. Xuĕ showed him lots of tips and tricks for taking down prey. Go for the underside of the neck, use cover to your advantage, and most importantly, work with your team.

Leiana eventually brought him some good news almost a year later. She was going to help her brother as an herbalist's assistant-- her age was not kind to her-- and so the spot was his. Athanasios was overjoyed, and immediately went to work.

Athanasios is quick on his paws and always eager to explore, although never without Dongmei by his side. Her observant nature keeps him grounded, and she always steers him from troublesome situations. Although they occasionally bicker, they work well as a team and are often told so by the pack. Most scouts before the pair (aside from Cayce and Cerulea) would scout separately to cover more ground, but this is seldom the case with the twins. Much of the pack calls him "the eternal scout" due to the fact he never seems to take too long of a break from his duties.
