Biography

If asked about her condition, Cacyra will always answer sweetly that she was born with clouds in her eyes.

Seyfert was perplexed at the new puppy's birth, given that she had never seen this condition even in other packs, and when she asked around, she got no good answer. She feared for the little pup's life, as up until this point, there had been no wolves with a mutation she had never seen before. Clingdrop, by this time her little apprentice, saw how her leader had handled the situation, and unbeknownst to her, helped her to understand what to do when she grew older.

When she returned to Enbarr, to her pleasant surprise, Cacyra was up and moving, if not a little slower than the others. Her father was from outside the Pack, but her mother, Ametrine, was nudging her gently by her muzzle, making sure she knew where she was going. Seyfert decided to allow Cacyra - as she was now called - to grow on her own, and to decide what to do with her when she grew older.

When she was a year old, Enbarr was nearing a corner of prosperity, and had the Pack been more hungry and desperate like it had in older moons, Cacyra may have been cast out, given that she could not perform any role. Still, the eternal Beta, Mayserle, who had lived through the Pack's most desperate times, took Cacyra under her wing, making sure she would never be a burden. From cleaning up the Pack's nests to helping wash puppies, there was always an odd job that Cacyra sought to fill, giving her purpose in the Pack.

And Enbarr was, simply put it, excessively fond of her. Charming, eager to learn, sweet natured and playful, Cacyra was a favourite of the pups of the Pack, though she could not fully protect them on her own, and desperately wanted to have pups of her own...but perhaps it was a curse from the Old Wolves, seeing how she prospered despite her disability, or her own blindness, but most of her pups were born very weak. The few that did live were treasured by her, but she had a yearning to care for those that didn't quite fit, just like her.

It was only when Seyfert had passed and Clingdrop had ascended to Alpha did she get that chance. The nestlings - a group of lethally mutated puppies, rescued by Enbarr, quickly overwhelmed the Pack. Mayserle, being the only other immortal wolf in the Pack, sought to make sure that the nestlings understood that the other wolves would eventually pass away, leading them to all lean heavily on her.

Cacyra was quiet, when Mayserle confided in her. What wolf could bear the loneliness of immortality? Mayserle by now had seen her family, her friends, even her mate die, and yet she kept her head up. If the nestlings needed to rely on an immortal wolf, then...

"Mayserle," Cacyra said softly, as now she, too, was nearing the end of her years. "I will care for the nestlings along with you. Come with me, to find the Jellyfish once more."
