Biography
Pepper has been a wanderer by nature. Pepper was born into the Wild Pack in the mountains. Her litter-brother was stillborn, while her litter-sister was sickly and did not survive beyond her first few breaths. Pepper was the runt of the litter and it was expected she would not survive. Pepper's mother, Snowfall, died due to birth complications. The pack's herbalist, Silver, attempted to treat Pepper's sickness while Rose, one of the other queens, supplied the pup milk.
Pepper's father, Blade, blamed Pepper for the loss of his mate. Angry with her, he stole her away from the den one night while she was still very young. He took her to a cliff and dropped her over. The young pup tumbled onto a ledge down the mountainside. Her eyes and ears were open, but she had trouble walking. Pepper would have died if not for a gentle she-wolf who traversed the mountain. The she-wolf came across Pepper whimpering on her ledge and snatched her away with a brave and daring rescue.
The she-wolf, Mist, took Pepper to her den in the cliffs and raised her there. Mist taught Pepper how to navigate the rugged mountainside. Pepper's limbs grew strong and muscled, her pads rough and hard from climbing stones all the time. Pepper's pelt grew out thick and sleek to keep her warm in the cool mountain air, hiding coarse strength in her long legs and powerful shoulders. Her fangs grew out to be long and dangerous and Mist taught her to hone her senses and perfect her hunting across even the sheer mountainsides.
Mist grew old and frail and Pepper continued to provide for her mother-figure until she woke one morning to find the she-wolf's body cold and stiff. She had passed. Unable to bury Mist on the mountainside, Pepper gently took her body to the base of the mountain and buried her among the soft dirt. She said a few words for her mentor and held a vigil all day and night to pay her last respects.
The morning after Mist's death, Pepper left the mountains and headed for the plains. She encountered a lone wolf named Sheep, pregnant with pups and looking for a place to stay. Pepper guarded Sheep as the two searched for a temporary pack. They encountered Breeze Pack on the plains, led by Spike. The Alpha agreed to Sheep's terms for her and Pepper to stay in the pack until Sheep's pups were born and strong.
Many pack wolves were distrustful of the fluffy white queen and the thick-furred white she-wolf with the unusual green eyes and black markings. Sheep gave birth to only one pup, who she named Shadow.
While in the pack, Pepper learned pack ways. One she-wolf, Maple, offered to teach her like a mentor. Pepper became quick friends with the apprentices, catching the attention of Crow, Spike's son.
Pepper and Crow became close friends, despite Pepper being a lone wolf. Rumors spread around the pack about the two becoming mates once Crow became a warrior.
One night, after a tough day of training, Pepper received a dream from Star Pack, the ancestors of any and all packs to ever exist, telling her to find Shadow's father. Pepper awoke from the dream and went to tell Shadow. Shadow stared at her with shock, announcing she'd had the same dream. Pepper and Shadow made a promise to one another that in half a moon's time, they'd search for Shadow's father-wolf together.
A week later, Shadow was apprenticed to Ice. Pepper and Shadow grew close due to their shared prophetic dream, making Crow jealous. Finally, Pepper and Shadow decided it was time to leave. After traveling for two sunrises and Pepper teaching Shadow battle and hunting moves, the two met up with a patrol sent out by Mountain Pack.
Pepper calmed Shadow down as best she could and explained their intentions to the patrol and the wolf they searched for. A male watched both of the young she-wolves with concern and fear.
Time passed and the two apprentices took refuge in Mountain Pack's camp, welcomed by all, but the two vowed they were loyal to Breeze Pack above all, never participating in hunting or patrols in which their pack could find them. The two were given temporary mentors for the time so they didn't lack any training when they returned to their rightful pack.
During a battle session, Pepper accidentally nicked Shadow's ear when she bit down a little too hard. Instead of Shadow's mentor, Pebble, congratulating his apprentice on a new scar and taking her to the herbalist to get treated, Pebble rushed over and started worrying over the apprentice like a father over a pup. Embarrassed, Pebble apologized. Pepper's mentor, Falcon, laughed, saying that if she didn't know better, Pebble would've made the perfect queen.
After the session, Pebble brought Pepper and Shadow aside on the way back to camp, confessing to the both that he was Shadow's father. He remembered clear as day when he and Sheep first met. He was a young warrior during leaf-bare and had gotten lost. She'd welcomed him to her den and, well...
Pepper glanced at Shadow to see her staring in shock. Pack relations?! And not from Breeze Pack...
The two she-wolves thanked the warrior and announced they'd be returning to their own pack. Sleek, the Mountain Pack Alpha, agreed and gathered a patrol to lead them to the edge of the territory. Leopard, the pack's Beta, wished both she-wolves a safe journey. The patrol turned and left without a word.
Shadow and Pepper continued their journey, running for half the travel back to their beloved plains and making it after a single sunrise. A little confused with finding their way home, some kind-hearted lone wolves gave them directions to a safe way home, as the way they'd been heading would've taken them to a longpaw trail. Thanking them, the pack wolves returned home, surprised to learn Sheep had left.
The pack was shocked at the sudden return of their apprentices, seeing this as an omen of good fortune. The pack held a feast in celebration. (And they were punished for running off, of course.)
Weeks passed after their return and after training hard to catch up with their denmates, both became warriors.
Crow confessed his feelings for Pepper, to which the she-wolf gently turned his down. Crow was disappointed, but accepted her choice. Pepper was grateful for his support.
Pepper and Shadow both became mentors. Shadow received Doe, while Pepper had Lynx. The two mentors usually trained together, despite how much the apprentices disliked each other.
Soon enough, Doe and Lynx passed their assessment with flying colors. After the ceremony, the Beta, Deer, stepped down after many seasons of serving a respected position. He thanked all the wolves by his side, and they supported him as he retired to the elder's den. He requested Shadow take his place as Breeze Pack's new Beta. Spike happily agreed to.
Weeks flew by, and Shadow became the pack's new alpha. She brought into the world Crow's pups: Cotton and Twilight. Cotton took the path of an herbalist with Beetle as her mentor. Pepper proudly took Twilight as her own.
One fateful evening, while the day was eerily quiet, large red beasts, foxes, burst into the camp and began to create chaos. One made its way to the nursery, beginning to tear it down to get at the new mother-wolves and pups. Pepper refused to let that slide, attacking fiercely to save the queen and the newborns.
When the battle ended, Pepper pursued the foxes away from the camp to make sure they never returned. She became lost in the trees of the fox's forest, unable to find her way back. Pepper found her way onto the territory of Storm Pack, led by Ice with her beta Cliff.
Storm Pack welcomed Pepper, and she asked to train as an herbalist under them. She'd taken an interest in herbs and healing others. Ice apprenticed her to the herbalist, Moth.
Pepper learned quickly, making her mentor proud. The she-wolf was clearly getting old, moving slower than before. She'd need someone to take over soon. Moth praised Pepper when she got things right, guiding her patiently when she made mistakes.
Pepper trained hard for weeks, from dealing with pups sick with greencough to treating Ice. Pepper became a trustworthy herbalist. Every wolf in Storm Pack trusted her.
One peaceful afternoon, the sun high and fresh-kill pile plentiful, Pepper was treating a young warrior named Flash who had a thorn stuck in his pad after tripping to brambles on patrol. After she'd cleaned the wound and placed a poultice on it, sending Flash to rest in his den, disaster struck the camp!
Moth, of course, ran to protect the nursery. Pepper followed quickly, watching as three of her Packmates fell victim to the foxes: Fading, a kind-hearted elder, Morning, an apprentice and...
Pepper watched, terrified, as a fox grabbed Moth by the throat and flung her into a tree. Pepper launched herself at the fox, overpowering it with moons of battle training. She snapped at its muzzle, swiped at its eyes, clawed its ears, forcing it to turn and flee with its tail between its legs.
Pepper grieved for her third lost mentor, lagging a bit during her duties healing her other Packmates.
Weeks passed and Pepper watched pups become apprentices, apprentices become warriors, warriors become elders. She finally received her own apprentice, Hazel. The two grew extremely close as Pepper trained the energetic, eager young she-wolf.
Through a harsh leaf-bare, Ice became sick with greencough and lost his life right before Pepper's eyes. She announced it to the pack, declaring she'd bury Ice herself, for she wanted no other wolf to get sick. She buried her Alpha alongside Moth.
Thankfully, Pepper didn't catch greencough from her Alpha. As weeks continued to pass and Cliff led Storm Pack through seasons, Pepper knew that her time in this pack was drawing to a close. She was still fairly young; she'd barely been two moons when Mist had died and she'd found Breeze Pack. She'd spent nearly five moons in that pack as Shadow's friend and fellow warrior. At seven moons, the foxes had attacked and she'd found Storm Pack. For the past three moons, she'd been the pack's herbalist. But now...she was barely a year old and wanted to try being a lone wolf for a time. Maybe she'd form her own pack and become its Alpha... She'd call it Pack Trueno... Yes, that was what she'd do.
Pepper named Hazel a full herbalist under the light of the moon. The following morning, Pepper announced her intention to leave. Storm Pack was saddened by her departure, but Cliff accepted her decision. Pepper had given them moons of loyalty and now it was time for her to follow her own path. Her paws were leading her to the future, and that future did not lay with Storm Pack.
Pepper promised that if she formed a pack of her own, she would make sure that their pack held peace with Storm Pack. Cliff promised her the same. The two packs, Storm Pack and Pack Trueno, would always be allies. Pepper asked Cliff for one final favor: Find Breeze Pack and Mountain Pack in the grasslands and give them a message from her, saying that she was making a pack of her own. She asked for the friendship of the two packs in exchange for her own and that of Storm Pack's. Cliff readily agreed to her terms. Anything for their loyal herbalist.
Pepper took her leave, traveling to the forest where she would be close to all three of her allies. She settled in the forest with Tala's help, bringing Fire and Golden to her pack as their Alpha.
