His name is based off of the alpine bromeliad "Sapphire Tower". Bromeliads are a Central-to-Southern American plant known for being able to collect and contain water, this specific species more akin to a cacti in its containment, living in the north-facing sides of mountains in the regions of the Andes in Chile. These plants are currently not listed as threatened or endangered, but can be assumed to be at moderate risk due to climate change and other issues of the same caliber.
The plant can grow to 5 ft. (1.52 m) but average out to about 3 ft. (1 m). They have thick stalks and lots of leaves, combining light greens and a silver-grey hue underneath, thicker at the bottom, and growing thinner at the top. The main reason for the name, however, is this plant's blooms. It produces a beautiful, metallic turquoise, with orange pollen in the middle, and pink bracts to attract pollinators via native bees and birds. (Sain, Todd.
