Most of what people call aggression in dogs is really just an inappropriate response to fear and uncertainty. The way to address the problem is taking away the fear of the unknown, by making it known.

SHE WORKS WITH DOGS

"There are no bad dogs or bad humans, just inappropriate behavior." ― Shannon Riley-Coyner

I have adored working with animals (particularly companion animals, with an intense fascination for wild animals in accompaniment) for the near entirety of my life. I was fortunate enough to have fostered a situation where I would have approximately 7 animals in my care at one point (including my rabbit, Oreo, who lived to be 12 – hermit crabs, guinea pigs, and other small "exotics") that served to ignite further my passion for improving the livelihood of those that could not speak out for themselves. I have worked as a dog daycare attendant, and am currently working as a receptionist at a VCA Hospital & Boarding facility as a full-time position. In the Fall, I am hoping to transfer over to the training department and begin the process of gaining the 300 hours needed for certification as a dog trainer and professional.

I am 19 years old and the caretaker to 3 dogs and 1 senior cat as of current – they are my beloved companions and I would do anything for each of them. My latest addition to my four-legged crew has been my 1-year-old Newfoundland, Athena, who has introduced me to the dog breed that I believe I may spend the rest of my life enamored by and striving to improve (and save). I also have a 7-year-old Labrador Retriever named Luxie, and a 10-year-old Beagle named Scarlet-Marie. My senior cat is Lilybelle, recently 11 and just as sweet as the day I received her years ago.

ANIMAL HEALTH & BEHAVIOR MAJOR

I am currently attending college through their virtual/distance education program as a means of acquiring my bachelor's degree in Animal Health & Behavior; wherein with this degree path I have an array of careers I can choose from, including wildlife rehabilitation and companion animal care. I have designed several hypothetical sanctuary containment centers for wild animals that would not be able to re-enter their wild habitat, with a likeness as close to their natural environment as humanely possible to ensure safety to handlers and animals in captivity.

Please always keep an eye out for your local wildlife, pick up trash and dispose of it properly. Even the smallest of actions goes an incredibly long way to sustaining the animals that have lost their homes to deforestation and human encroachment onto their territories.

  • If you have any questions or curiosities on wildlife I am always happy to answer!

  • Please take care of your mental and physical health.

  • Please drink water.

  • Please enjoy the outside.
