How The Pack Was Created

The fields were rich with life and zest, it was the first sunny day since autumn had ended and it seemed all of the animals were rejoicing, coming out of hibernation or their warm shelter, ready to prowl. Along came a red, yellow and white wolf, traversing the grasslands, their heels dragging behind them in a bored, monotonous pattern. The days were becoming so long. So aimless. This wolf, like many others wandering packless for months on end, had no name. If they had one, they'd given it up long ago. Most creatures who crossed their way called them Red, but they never truly connected to this nickname. Their paws began to feel terribly sore, and they looked down to see they were treading on concrete. Oh stars, they had treaded onto human land! This was never a good idea. But a peculiar smell drew them closer. They found themselves in front of a large bin, with pieces of paper strewn everywhere. "That's my stuff!" snapped an orange and white wolf, fervently guarding the slips of paper. The red wolf stepped back, looking up at this peculiar wolf. "Why do you live here, and not in the forest? Or the grasslands, or the mountains?" asked Red. The orange wolf bared his teeth. "Because my stuff is here! And I wouldn't stand a chance out there!" He took a bold step forward, glaring in Red's eyes, teeth still bared. "Go back to your pack, you don't need to bother me for being packless." Somehow, Red knew this guy was all bark and no bite. It might have been his quivering lip, or his flicking ears, but they weren't intimidated. "I'm packless too. I don't know how you didn't scent that." The orange wolf stared slackjawed for a minute, then quickly shook his head and narrowed his eyes in anger. "I'm not good at that, okay?! I don't really want a fight. Just leave me be." He looked down at his paws, tail twitching. "If I wanted to fight you, I would've won by now," stated Red. At first they felt annoyed, but looking closer at the orange wolf, he was clearly unkempt and his ribs were showing.  "Listen, are you sure you don't just wanna come with me to the grasslands? What are you even living on?" The orange wolf hid his ribs with his tail sheepishly. "I mean, sometimes rats or squirrels run through here. Not often though." Red gave him a look of sympathy. It took them a while to be able to get food every day, and they couldn't imagine having to obtain it in such an unreliable way. "Don't look at me with that face! That face t-that says you feel bad.. that you think I'm pathetic!" the orange wolf growled, bristling his fur. "Well, fine. But I gave you an offer, and I do mean it. Come with me if you feel like it. There's fresh prey all over in the grasslands, you'll lose your ribs in no time." Red waited for a second, but the orange wolf wasn't budging. They rolled their eyes andbegan to pad off, but was interrupted by the other yelling "W-wait!" They craned their head behind them, seeing the orange wolf carrying a bunch of papers and human trash in his mouth. He spit it out and began to speak. "It's really sudden, but... I wasn't raised to let my pride get in the way of accepting your kind offer. Plus, I'm really, mega hungry," he barked. Red smiled warmly, happy to gain a new companion. "I'm Fanta, by the way. Just let me grab a few essentials..." The orange wolf scrambled to pick up all their things, dropping over half each time they tried to grab more. "You, uh, want help with that?" The orange wolf sighed. "Yeth..."

After a short travel carrying the truckload of human trash back to Red's makeshift territory, they ended up both relaxing on soft nests. Fanta had scarfed down probably more food than necessary, he was passed out lazily, and his trash was strewn all around. We'll work on it, they thought amusedly. Glancing down at a square shaped box below them, they read four words. "Fruit Punch Juice Box". Somehow, it felt... right. If they ever made a pack with this fool, they'd be Fruit Punch, of Juice Box, they decided. The words made no sense, but the vibes were good. And that was all they needed.
