The Pack of Darkness

The icy wind howls through the freezing, towering, coal-black mountains, and your exhausted legs collapse under you. You huddle in the shelter of a rocky ledge, shaking uncontrollably with the cold. A dark figure steps into view- a she-wolf with bright orange eyes. She pads up to you.

’My name is Amber. I am the lead scout of The Pack of Darkness. Follow me.’

Without waiting for an answer, or even an acknowledgement, she trots away. Dragging your heavy, numb paws through the thick snow, you slowly catch up to her, and find yourself facing a mountain taller and wider than all the others. Giant caves are barely flecks on it’s stony, dangerous surface. Amber walks up a thin ledge, and then into one of the three accessible caves. With nothing else to do, you follow her and see multiple adult and adolescent wolves sleeping, or eating, or playing. 

‘Sleep. We can talk once you’ve warmed up.’

You curl up in a bed of weasel pelts, and are soon fast asleep.

When you wake up, only a few wolves are left in the cave. They must have gone hunting or something. Amber is still there, however.

’Did you have a good sleep?’ She asks.

’Good enough,’ you say with a wide yawn.

’Excellent. Now- eat.’ 

She flicks her ears towards a pile of carcasses, and you pick up a heavy beaver, before hungrily devouring it. When you’ve finished, Amber says-

‘You can have a look around, if you like. Then have some more food, and go on your way.’

’Thank you so much for saving me,’  you say.

’You’re welcome.’
