City Rat Pack

The edge of the desert is dangerous at night...

When the sun goes out and the Las Vegas strip illuminates the sky, ghosts of the Mojave come to prowl the streets.
Citizens are unsure if the savage pack is more coyote than wolf or even wolves at all.
Either way, the feral cat problem has been solved.

Welcome to the City Rat Pack!
This wolf pack prowls through the Mojave Desert during the day and scavenge the Las Vegas streets at night. They pick up scraps of discarded food and trash behind the endless line of casinos. They are very wary of humans in broad daylight but are more than willing to attack a full grown man when the pack is all together. Their steadily intensifying boldness has put them in danger however. While hunting is illegal within the Las Vegas Valley, citizens are becoming more than prepared to protect their property.

Conventions of the Pack

Upon birth, the pups are named after nearby items but most commonly named after the last item/meal the mother ate!

The lead wolf takes care of the pack and keeps order. Upon promotion to Leader, their Wolf name is redacted and replaced with the name of a food source.

The Rat Pack's History

The City Rat Pack originated in the deciduous forest, yet their presence was very known by the nearby town they rummaged through. As deer hunters found more and more of their trophy bucks dead by the time hunting season rolled around, hushed voices began to pass around official game and fish law rooms. Larger quantities of tags for the wolves were sold and the community and neighboring counties were eager to put a pelt on their wall.

One by one, wolves fell. First it was Gnawing Hoof, a hunter. Then it was Dove Tail, the herbalist. Deer Bone. Opossum. Fish Fin. Cat's Paw. Only a few years passed before the strength and stability of the pack began to wane. The final marker was the death of Forest, the pack's leader. As his black fur hit the snowy banks, reddened by his lung's bubbling blood, there was no other choice to make other than leave.

Traveling from thick and rich forests to the scrabbling sprawls of open wasteland was anything but easy and simple. Prey was scarce and water scarcer. Eventually the pack found an oasis in an RV park. Water was plenty and people came and go, leaving food everywhere.  Fur colors began to shift from monochrome greys to light tans and browns. Only skilled humans were able to tell what animal was a wolf and which was a coyote.

Concerns of animal-human habituation pushed park officials to control the situation. More wolves were shot. More death. Another move was decided.

Rat Pack continued their travels. Now they have found paradise. But it may only be a waiting game to see if they'll also be driven out of this place too.
