The range is known for its three highest peaksโeach arranged in an arc that hugs the shoreline. On the west side, facing the shore, the mountains become cliffs that drop directly into the sea or occasionally slope down toward a small sandbar. To the east, a dense coniferous forest that has crept up the mountainsides like a thick, green blanket. The range has various levels of elevation with lakes, streams, and short waterfalls cutting through the expanse of trees and jagged rocks. One wouldn't know just by looking, but there are some parts that are lush and hilly. Much of the area consists of soft plateaus that occasionally carry meadows of wildflowers like arnica, alpine paintbrushes, and valerianโoften marked with tall stalks of heather and arctic lupine.
