In darkness we thrive

Padding through the forest, you think nothing of your pawsteps as you follow your nose, hot on the trail of what smells like a beautiful meal awaiting you. Your stomach growls and you feel a hunger pain clench at your gut as you catch another fresh whiff of your prey's scent and you pick up your pace to a trot. Your focus is so narrowed due to hunger you miss the figures dancing in the shadows, darting around you as you trot through the trees. It isn't until a weight crashes into you and sends you skittering through the leaf litter with a yelp that you seem to come to your senses. 

Startling yellow eyes glare down at you as a dark pelted male stands bristling just a fox length away from you. "What flea-brain trespasses and tries to hunt on another pack's territory?" The male snarled, narrowing his eyes as the black fur around the nape of his neck rose, making his shoulders look more broad than they already were. "Did your Pupsitter actually sit on your head when you were a pup? Muffled your brain?"

"No, you s-s-see-" You tried to stammer a quick response as you tried to scramble to your feet, but the male took another threatening step forward. "I-I-I didn't know, I w-w-was just trying to-"

"Steal?" The male cut you off with a snap of his jaws, tail standing stiffly behind him. Your eyes went wide and you shook your head fiercely. Before you could open your mouth to protest, a softer voice cut through the tense air. 

"Ceo, that is enough. Stand down." A cream colored she-wolf strode forward, her pelt dappled like that of a new fawn's and her eyes the deepest shade of blue, like the sky before a storm. She looked at the male who begrudgingly lowered his tail and his head to her, his hackles finally lying flat. Then she turned her gaze to you, those sapphire eyes boring into you as she studied you. "You are not from here, you'd struggle to hunt in this dense forest if you don't know how to do so properly." She flicked an ear and took a few bold steps towards you, eyes curious and keen. "We could show you, if you'd like. How to hunt and become one with the shadows, if you become one of us."
