Pepper was a lone wolf, she was exiled from her pack because she was in a relationship with a wolfdog. The surviving members elected Wren as leader, he proposed a new naming system, to honor the pack that helped them. Pups are born with names such as stormpup, darkpup, finchpup, etc. when they become adolescents, the last part of their name changes to paw, examples being stormpaw, darkpaw, finchpaw, etc. when they become adults, the last part of their name changes to something else, like stormflare, darkember, finchwing, skyglow, moonfall, featherstep, etc. if a wolf becomes leader, the last part of their name is changed to star, for example, stormstar, darkstar, finchstar, etc.
