Pixel Wolfs | Interest Check/ Price Check

Pixel Wolfs | Interest Check/ Price Check
Posted 2020-10-29 09:09:12 (edited)

I made thes funky guys for my den page and it was suggested that I should open commissions for them.
Would anyone be interested in buying them?
And how should/could I price them? Any other suggestions regarding them?

If you click on them it will bring you to the wolf portrayed

Ooh they're lovely, please do let me know if you open commissions? ❤️

I'm sorry to be cliche but I think the best option to price would be looking at the Grove pricing for USD:GC ($9.99 for 40 GC, $24.99 for 110 GC, $49.99 for 230 GC etc) and figuring out how much you'd like to make for your time. ^^'

The "In game" currency market value is all over the place right now, So that's a little harder to pinpoint.

But i'd consider how busy you want to be, how many slots you'd be comfortable taking (price a little higher than your minimum for fewer slots or if you'd like to be less busy), what you want your "feel" of the commission 'style' to be (are these detailed little works of art [expensive] to be cherished or loose quick recolors [pricing lower, for speed work and emphasizing Quantity (Order your whole pack)]?) whether you want to limit it to one or two max per person per slot opening or let people go nuts and order their whole complex-colored pack , and try to come up with an amount you'd be happy making. ❤️

Sure! ^^

Hm, I'm not sure how much I'd like to make in $ either, since this would kinda be my first time opening comissions for any kind of currency, but I've found doing the wolves above that one seems to take me around 45 Minutes to an hour if that maybe helps?
(I draw slow, I don't know why)
Though I think that time would go down with experience and of course depending on the design.

And I kinda have a hard time determining how much my art is worth in general ^^'

Ah, I see! 😅

For the level of detail they have overall right now and because they are a Premade "your wolf here" pixel base, i'd say 10-15 Gc should land you with some customers without becoming overwhelming. The variation there is because I feel like 10GC would be for simpler wolves like the full-black pixels where your shading is kind of lost, 15GC for more complex. (Honestly though the last 3 examples i'd be more comfortable with 3-5 GC for the all-black "void" wolf or 5-10 GC for the white one if that's how my heavily complicated wolves ended up looking on that base, without seeing the wolves they were based on it's hard to tell since if they were super simple without depth it makes sense! Just speaking as a possible customer.] I don't recommend trying a "pay what you want" shop with pricing below 5-10 GC though, even if it's temporary/limited time to build more examples. I would be very happy with the quality of the first two for the higher price! 😊❤️

Maybe 20-25GC for really polished wolves down the line or more/different animations (like smoothly raising the tail too) as you develop the amount of detail you're able to squeeze in. 🥰

For 45 min to an hour, you should put yourself in the $24.99 / 110 GC category for your artwork, but these are premade pixel wolves so once you're established I think half that max would be fair. 😅 With Custom posing And animation, larger versions too maybe, for 50-70GC+, Premade I don't think is ever as high? (Might be wrong) and hopefully your speed would improve to match. ❤️ I'm not suggested you should ever offer customs if you don't want to, just sharing ideas for what might lure customers in at different price ranges! ❤️

As the market shifts, your pricing should Only go up (don't lower unless you're doing short-term high-volume fund-earning, really want to earn just a small amount so might open one sale slot to start, or Special Limited-time Sale type commissions!) Some people might argue that you should fluctuate with the market, but I would not recommend isolated your past customers by lowering prices unless you're just doing a Sale! 😊

Also, Wolvden wolves can be extremely pattern-heavy and cluttered, so depending on the size you're working at and given how much time you're spending you may wish to increase your price from there if you feel yourself getting a bit burned out but don't want to stop completely (please always take care of yourself!). ❤️

Some artists handle that by offering general price ranges and evaluating each slot as they come in. You might want a more structured approach until you get comfortable!

Please keep in mind that i'm not an artist and not making any direct comparisons, just speaking from the feel i've gotten of the Wolvden market so far and my own experience ordering and receiving commissions. Some really experienced artists can whip out works that customers are happy to pay 40GC or higher for, but because of the quality people don't mind paying 70-100GC+ for something that wouldn't take the artist that long to actually do- so as your experience and skill rises, don't undervalue yourself based on "oh this only took me 15 min" unless you're doing Temporary short-term speed rounds. I've noticed that when an artists's RL prices are comparable to their GC costs, some people prefer to spend real $ rather than their GC and some artists make their GC prices much higher (it's pixel money, not food/bills) to encourage that. (Keep in mind that with their wolves- selling a lucky pup or breedings to a $20 customized stud etc.- some people can turn $5 into $150 value!) Please don't work for too little! You might fill slots up fast, and even though the practice would be great you might risk burnout, whereas someone working from a USD pricing perspective might expect to have empty slots for a while as people go for "cheaper for same value" artists who are just trying to fill their 5-10 slots and get a batch of commissions out quick.

This Should be simple (and relaxing/fun, with some hard work for growth), so please don't get overwhelmed by my verbal onslaught either. 🤣❤️

Pricing sets expectation in my mind, so I may not be the best person to give advice!

Whatever you decide, i'm interested. ❤️ I hope some artists and more customers can come in to try to give you better guidance, but please keep in mind that if you say they're experimental or you're developing your skill people won't mind some variation for 10-15GC.

Don't let yourself get discouraged or get disappointed by a cranky customer or two, just try to have fun and do the best you can! 😊❤️

Good luck! ❤️

Aww, thank you so much ^^
I think I'll play around with these for a bit longer before deciding on a Final (starting) Price
To be honest, these were my first attempt at animated pixels, and I hadn't done to many pixels in general before :' D
But I think it's already paying of a bit

(A little floaty island of grass, a kinda wagging tail and multiple line colors) (The first is my lead wolf btw, the third a friends stud and the brown one is just my base)

I'll probably keep working on new animation options as I go and thought about offering "updrades" for former comissions as I expand that (honestly I would do it for free if it wasn't added work for me that might add up fast depending on what option)

I also considered offering custom wolf (or wolf-like dog) designs on these together with a fitting non-pixel base as a little combo deal, because I know I'd really enjoy doing that and its something I'd be interested in as a customer.

Oo they look so great! 😍❤️

Woow your first attempt? Amazing! ❤️

The little added animations are so cute 🥰

and ooo the multiple line colors on your friend's light-coated stud really add something! 😊❤️

Makes total sense, definitely do have an upgrade fee especially if files may be switched about. :3

Sounds wonderful! ❤️

I finally finished all the wolves I had planned before I would take on more and a base for the custom idea ^^ (+ a first example that I might make a mascot?)

I think I might be able to set up things this weekend ^^
Not Sure if it would be allowed to do that in a new thread though... I think it should be fine?

Oooh the custom is so cute! ❤️

Sounds great! Ah I didn't realize this was already in Adopt sales, thought we were over in Tree Carving general

That would probably have been a better place to put this tbh, but I didn't think that far :'D

I think you're fine, if you want hang onto the thread or i've seen a few disappear after title is changed to "Delete" when they want it gone. xD

Can always reach out through the appropriate channels for an official answer! ^^
