Alaska | female | Hunter | outside the Hall

She didn't really listen to the conversation her leader and the councilman had, lost in her own thoughts. That was until the topic to hunting changed and her name fell. A hunt would be good, it would keep her from overthinking things. She looked shortly up at the sky to get an impression of the weather, but she didn't have the skills a Watcher has, so the sky didn't tell her anything, but that it wasn't raining. Not that the weather mattered to her much, unless it was storming.

"Sure.", she said. She looked at the other dogs Sealgair had named. She didn't knew them very well, but she knew that two of them weren't Hunters. As far as she knew one of them were in the council and the other was a scout. Why did he choose them?, she wondered. Unless they didn't have any experience in hunting before they came here, wouldn't they just get in the way?

Trigger
He/him ll Scout ll the hall

His ears perked at his name being called, pointed forward slightly in a listening way. He naturally stood to his paws again, slowly trotting out to where the rest were. His tail swayed calmly, going back and forth at a constant pace. His head tilted ever so slightly, why was he being asked to go hunt? wouldn't he get in the way since he was a scout? Maybe they needed extra helpers, or there weren't enough hunters experienced enough yet. He wasn't to sure, but whatever the cause, he didn't want to seem like he didn't want to do anything, he was always an active dog, he didn't want to give off the impression that he was just plain lazy. So he just gave a slight hesitant nod, he never really said much, only when in conversation in order not to seem rude.

Rhett

The merle ticked she, still currently napping in her soft, well-made nest payed no attention to the waking dogs. Her light chest rose and fell evenly, steadily. Unlike Sealgair, she liked to do excessive napping, but was by no means a lazy dog. Rhett and Seal, from the time they arrived never got along well. He just seemed off from the start, he seemed too trustworthy, too likable. The Irish dog had something for everyone, it seemed. Did everyone trust him? Was she the only one that didn't like Sealgair? He also had a preference to the bigger canines, often shunning smaller animals like herself. She didn't know what caused the sense of discomfort around him, she was usually welcoming and trusting. Rhetti hadn't gone asking other dogs, she hadn't gone doing anything that meant socializing. The change of scene had hit her hard, and though she loved the outdoors more then anything, it was a bit much.

Almost instantly, at the brief mention of hunting, The female's head shot upwards, large eyes flitting to the canines, eyes landing on Sealgair as an internal groan escaped her as she realized he was organizing the hunt for today, and she had been chosen to go along. from a quick sniff she thought the weather fair, but, she knew it would take a watcher's conviction to truly determine such. As much a she didn't like it, she had to accept, as a hunter, she had no choice. " Fine. " The female said in a strained, hesitant voice. She finally stood, short, but fairly muscled legs extending off the ground into a stand as the dam shook her rustic pelt. She took a tentative step off the nest she had made, paws touching cold, slightly moist rock. With a sigh she stepped forward,  looking at the others who had risen. Her eyes snapped to a pretty sighthound, Vagari, her name. She led the bunch, and she had Rhettie's full support. She was kind, and trustworthy, and it seemed that she knew what she was doing. The former medic fascinated the herder, how she knew what plants could heal, and which harmed. She could never do that, even if she tried.

" Oh well hia' there Vargari. Howa ya' be? " She yelped out, stumpy tail wagging as she half trotted, half stumbled over to greet the tall she. In comparison to Varagri, Rhett was a small dog, and her head was just above her withers.  Behind her, she could hear a uniquely-sounding scoff,  followed by a few chuckling mumbles. Low-and-behold, it was from Sealgair. She cringed,  looking back with a fangy, pathetic grin. She just wanted to greet the leader, what was his problem?

Vagari - Leader - Female - Location: The Hall

Although bred to be a ruthless hunter and opponent, the sighthound's disposition was as soft as her eyes. One who was reactive might consider Sealgair's questioning of the organization of hunting to be a challenge- Tulio would have been one such dog. Although she did have a poor habit of bottling up true emotions, Vagari was fortunately the type to rule with logic. Her logic justified her means. "I think I'm everything but those things, actually. Besides...I'd be much faster on the ground than in the water. I'm no otter." Vagari didn't disclose any further information. It was evident from her appearance alone that she lacked webbing, had a thing and wispy coat, and wasn't really built for swimming.

The truth, however, dove into a greater depth than the surface of appearance. She'd never swum before- never had her paws touched the depths of deep, running water. She was born and bred to keep all four paws on the land, or in some instances, in the air if she was running at a great enough speed. Some of the sighthounds she'd seen run...it was like their paws never touched the ground. It was a sight to behold, but a sight she'd keep to herself.

Her background did not matter to them. It was none of their business. What mattered now was moving forward and thriving. "But if I did everything myself, Sealgair, there'd be no point in democracy. It'd be like running under Tulio all over again, and I aim to avoid that. I rely on the wisdom of my council, just as a bird relies on his wings. He doesn't need them to live, but it makes him better."

A mere drizzle was far from the intensity of her concern. She'd seen it on the horizon for days- they all had. That rumbling mass of green clouds...while it hadn't grown or moved, it still unnerved her.

Her attention was briefly diverted to Gyu-Ri. Vagari didn't want to keep her waiting. "If the watchers deem the weather acceptable, I'd like you to scout around the village more. It seems that most of the ruins have still gone unexplored." If the scout deemed some of the newer buildings safe, then she'd send in Scavengers to do what they did best.

Dismissing the disgruntled noises from her councilman upon Rhett's approach, Vagari returned the greeting with a gentle smile. "Good morrow, Rhett. I'm doing fine- did your nest treat you well overnight?" She silently admired the diversity among the pack, something Tulio seemed to have previously scowled upon. Back at home, she was surrounded by one type of dog, but now, there seemed to be one of everything. Each dog had been created with a purpose. Vagari was meant to catch small, high-speed prey. Sealgair was bred to withstand cold water and retrieve the hunter's prize. Rhett was meant to drive cattle.

She basked in what knowledge the old stray had graced her with. She longed for his kind words, his wisdom, his secrets...his companionship. Just when she'd finally found what felt like a father, the world had taken him from Vagari.

Ranger- Lurker - Male - Location: Village Outskirts

To say that he'd been up "bright and early" would be a lie. It wasn't bright when Ranger awoke- he'd risen before the sun. The malinois was already vibrating with energy, eager to feed his hungry mind with stimulation and adventure. Who needed sleep when there was an entire world out there just waiting to be explored and uncovered? Besides...man might be out there somewhere, waiting. He couldn't disappoint his handler. He missed his handler. Just like the man had always said: they were a team, partners.

So where was he, and why had he gone? Ranger had been crated before, and it was usually just to transfer between facilities for training. But this time, he was in a completely strange place. The horizon here wasn't hazy from pollution, and the land wasn't dotted with dull, gray buildings. The air was thin, fine, and refreshing to feel in his lungs. It made him feel like he could run endlessly...really, he probably could. It was Ranger, after all.

For days, he thought it was just another one of those silly games that the boss called "training exercises", the ones that Ranger couldn't really, erm, focus on. But where was everybody? The games never lasted this long...and he could always smell them waiting for him. But there wasn't a whiff of man, not yet.

Although the pack of (occasionally hostile) dogs had taken up residence in the nearby town, Ranger felt an intense desire to explore. If man was anywhere, they had to be there. The former police canine had already caught himself a small pheasant and devoured it heartily while he'd been poking around the woods. Now, he stepped confidently into the village in search of what he longed for. Those pack dogs surely wouldn't appreciate him trampling on the territory they claimed as their own, but...well, they'd have to catch him first!

Sealgair - Councilmen - Masculine - Loacation: The Hall

The Well-Known Sealgair was much like Tulio, though, he would never outright admit it. He definitely had a very biased opinion towards larger dogs, finding them capable of more than the smaller breeds such as the Corgi or Dashud. What could they do? Sealgair didn't know the answer to that, he had been to one field trial, and he had seen only waterfowl-retrieving breeds. He grew up around waterfowl dogs, and most of those kinds of breeds were big? Labs and Chessies, the occasional Golden Retriever or Boykin Spaniel. Something smaller, besides a pup, could never have an actual use. His parents were also wolfdogs, both having low, but considerate amounts of it flowing through their veins, so it was natural he was used to growing up with big, so it was natural he did some light bullying to the smaller dogs. " I hear your kind..- Ehrrr', breed, deals with da' smaller stuff, ay? " He said, now taking a moment to look at her, closely, not just a few light, careless glances. It made sense, her curly coat might of been longer in length, but he had a double coat, he was waterproof like the materials his humans used when he lived on the lake. His fur was like oil and water, they didn't mix, they stayed separate. " It makes sense now. Though, ye' do still have purpose, you have reasonable size, efter' all. " He said with a light mental smack, that made him seem like he was Tulio, and he was, but he couldn't admit that to someone who was opposite, someone higher than him, someone who could take his power away.

He listened with a bit of admiration. His blazing, slightly-crazed eyes drew up a few hundred degrees, the fire within them being fed. No matter how opposite the two were, he had to applaud her silently. Vagari's expert way with words, the way she twisted them in that small speech could inspire any, even him, if his own views weren't so strong. Every bit she said was true, but it seemed, the way she twisted and crafted them, it seemed almost unreal, a lie, but it was truth. " Your such a werd' whiz. No need tah' be zo' vaunting. " A light laugh escaped him, and his eyes glanced back to  Rhett, who had moved aside to the left side of Vagari, sitting down with a tense expression, her eyes averting from his as soon as he looked, a clear sign of submission. Rhett was odd;, it seemed she knew what he was up to when he made sure to cover his tracks. He disliked her for it, how could a simple southern cattle dog, with no real uniqueness, be so clever?

(I'll be updating with Rhett's reply soon, I think I have enough for now)

Gyu-ri - Scout - she/her - Location: Just Outside the Hall

When Vagari turned to her with direction, Gyu-ri gave her a curt nod. "I'll leave as soon as they give their report." She spoke quickly, letting her know she understood without taking up too much of her time. Then she turned to let the rest of the dogs discuss what they need to with their leader. It shouldn't be too long before she gets the news, and Gyu-ri hoped it wouldn't be stormy, as she was itching to stretch her legs this day.

Estelle - Hunter - they/she - Location: the Hall

There was a pain in her side as she slowly came to, sleep washing off as dogs around her began to rise. She didn't want to wake up yet, but she knew she'd have to pull her weight. As a smaller dog, she needed to do extra, and waking up late would not look good for her. So slowly, she stood up, the pain not going away. Stretching her limbs did nothing, and it was just painful to not be ignored. Hopefully it would go away before her day really started.

Estelle shook themself, trying to get sleep out of them, and looked down at their bedding to see the decent sized rock that had joined them in their sleep. They plucked it out before it joined them for another night, and weaved their way through nests and still sleeping dogs.

There was a decent sized crowd at the hall's entrance, and she soon joined them, nodding to the Australian shepherd who was just leaving the group, and hoping she'd find herself a spot on the day's hunt. She came up behind Rhett, sensing an odd tension between her and Sealgair. She had a twisted and confused face looking between the two, before closing her eyes and shaking her head slightly to clear it off. "Any room for one more hunter?" Although she knew it was mostly up to Vagari and the council to decide who went out, she couldn't help but insert herself. It was part of her nature, and if she couldn't prove herself to be the best hunter, what was the point? So, Estelle stood poised, holding her head up high, and making eye contact with Sealgair that she had no plans on breaking.

Alaska | female | Hunter | Location: the Hall

Alaska stepped from one paw on the other, until she couldn't sit anymore and stood up. She had grown more and restless and nervous during the conversation. Why do they even have to talk that much? Can't they just go now? She didn't knew why she was so restless and nervous today, though she was probably just overthinking. All she needed was to do something, then she probably would be calmer. "When do we set out?", she asked, eager to finally leave. The question was meant to both, Sealgair and Vagari.

Usually she would have stayed quiet and waited until one, who was in charge, said they would go, but today she just couldn't. Though she already regretted it a little bit. She didn't really liked that much attention, that would the question probably get her, she preferred to keep a low profile, especially -and that she realized now, if she didn't trust any of the dogs around her. It wasn't easy for her to start trusting another dog that she didn't know for a long time, but her real problem was that someone of that dogs must have poisoned their old leader. The other dogs seemed to just shake it off, but she had to knew who it was, because  for what else could a dog be ready, who was ready to poison their leader. She tried to figure it out and had suspected the medics at first, but then she realized that you didn't an advanced knowledge of herbs that the medics have to poison someone. It is enough to know on poisonous plant, so it could have been anyone. After that realization she tried to distract herself.

keiko | council | female | location: the hall

it wasn't the warm, tingling sunlight that woke keiko, but the murmur of speech between dogs that jolted her from her slumber. her thick feathery fur felt uncomfortable and heavy with dew as she rose from her bed lined with soft moss and feathers of assorted species of birds. shaking the dampness from her pelt, she tasted the air. it was humid and sultry, indicating the stifling arrival of summertime.

the mixed scent of dogs drifted into her sensitive nose. the halls were already buzzing with activity. singling out the scents of her leader, vagari, and a fellow council member, sealgair, keiko loped over to them. a few other wolves-some hunters and scouts-were standing nearby as well. keiko noted a subtle, coiling tension hanging in the air between her leader and sealgair, but she didn't make anything out of it. "lovely morning to you all," she said nonchalantly, nodding to the group of canines. though she respected her fellow council member, sealgair, she couldn't help but shudder when she looked into his fiery amber eyes. she could never tell what he was thinking when he got that steely, almost mad look in his eyes. she would hide it as best as possible, but he scared her down to her skin.

she turned towards vagari instead, who always seemed to expel an aura of sensibility and thoughtfulness. she looked up to vagari, all right, but who wouldn't? the graceful sighthound was majestic in everything she did, unlike sealgair, who radiated power and brute force. but maybe that was simply keiko's irrational worries, worming their way into her thoughts.

Sealgair - Masculine - Councilman - Hall

(Yesss, My irish dictator son strikes FEAR into all >:D )

The chesador tipped his head up, tilting it slightly with a flash of his slim, propeller-like tail. Another chuckle escaped him, but it wasn't a chuckle one would expel when a companion sputtered a joke,  it was the kind of grim, hateful cackle as to hide displeasure. Their dark pupils, which were already drawn into small, circular slits drew in more as he gave the small Rhett a stare that could bore holes into her thick skin. Sighing as the chackling of other dogs brought him out of his little world.

A new dog inserted herself into the conversation, and his head resumed their level position. A fellow hunting breed, a ''Brittany" if he wasn't mistaken. Not entirely a small dog, but compact, a hunter. " Heelo there. " He stated, mad, possibly slightly-rabid eyes brought down upon the  smaller dog, flashing a twitch of muscle in his lips, not a baring of fangs, but not a grin either. "Sure, hun."

A certain voice, a question, plucked him fully out of his little daydream-land, his ears flickered as he thought it over, the fire in his eyes seemed to die as he scoffed out a reply to the antsy canidae. " Well, Alaska, We will be leevin' when the watcha' determines dah' forecast. Go out and explore the entrance for all I care, go an' ceech a lil' lizard. " They said, returning to their usual state on  the dog they were having the staring contest with; Fire-filled, emotionless yet full of emotion, careless, yet full of thought; watchful and undecipherable. Their stiff-legged, regal posture softened, the tension in their toes expelling slightly to allow a degree of comfort.

They too, were beginning to become restless, but, it was required that they got the Watcher's precise determination of the weather, which could turn perilous in less than seconds. He had admiration for their work, so precise, so calculating, qualities any dog needed, qualities some of them lacked in his brilliant eyes, something he was determined to make them work on.

Keiko, a very pretty retriever and full of heart had sauntered over in a lope. He turned, every so often taking a moment to give the Brittany a peculiarly long glance.  A very subtle scent of discomfort radiated  off the new dog, a rasping rattle in his throat drew out a new sentence, " How'd yer nest treat sha' Keiko? Would you want to go on a hunt?

Rhett - Feminine - Hunter - Hall

Good lord, did that man make her scared sometimes. The weird way he talked, the lace of danger, the undertones of know , the dress of deceit touched her the wrong way. He knew things beyond her, he had seen and did things she could never dream it seemed. He was more of a hunter than her, he had real experience, even though he was rather young. She had clambered beside Vagari as he went on to do other things, which she didn't catch.

As she heard the words of Vagari, a question, she snapped up, again in her regular form, full of life, motherly and talkative, " O-O-o-o Y-YES! Thank you v-Very much, you too! Uh..Uhm- " She stumbled over her words awkwardly, tail wagging wildly to a point where it was just a blur, she was thinking too fast, her mind couldn't process it all " I-It was so, so, so, SO lovely, I think the only thing comfier was my person's bed, or mine..but what Is theres..was mine. "  They said, quieting her southern voice at the end, dipping her head for a moment, finally responding.  " I hope we leave this place soon. But yes, yes It was very nice..H-How about you? "

Her head turned to the new dogs arriving, and she got to catch the end o the Brittany and Sealgair's staring contest, but she didn't hear the exchanges with Keiko, she turned back to Vagari with bright, admiring eyes.

keiko | council | female | location: the hall

vagari seemed busy at the moment, so keiko reluctantly turned to speak to the imposing irish canine. "it was comfortable enough," she said vaguely, fighting hard to refrain from sinking down on her haunches in a puddle of shivery terror under the fellow councilman's glittering gaze. "how about you, sealgair?" she could barely compose herself to hear his reply before he up and suggested to go out hunting in that strange irish accent of his. a hunt? with sealgair, who might possibly be the scariest dog to ever roam the halls- after tulio, of course, whom keiko had barely seen, forget about known? keiko was a fairly good-sized canine, so she hadn't been particularly singled out by tulio anyhow, thank the canine gods. she almost wanted to refuse, but she told herself she had to try and keep on good terms with as many dogs as possible- she was a member of the council, of course. and especially among the council...

keiko twitched her tail slightly. "a hunt sounds wonderful. a lovely way to start the morning." she attempted at a weak smile, but in all honesty, it looked more like a pained grimace. "should we take any other dogs with us? any of the hunters? i mean, that's only if the hunters haven't started out already." there were still quite a few dogs gathered around vagari and sealgair, but keiko was uncertain as to which dogs were hunters exactly.

(sealgair definitely scares the fur off keiko HAH the scaredy cat)
