| Pack History: The Beginning |

On a slate of stone, its glinting surface cracked and weary, set lines of words carved deep and rough. It recorded the tale of an eternal yearning; from the beginning to the end.

Tired. She was tired. Her spread-out white wings pressed heavily against the grass beneath her paws as her wobbly legs carried her through the open field with nothing for miles. Crimson dripped onto every blade of green her wings grazed. Oh how the she-wolf yearned for the forest's shade and the herbalist's cure, but she was finally free now. She was free from the bloody claws of her past.

"You're lost, aren't you?" a voice in the she-wolf's head rang. The wolf shook her head. Maybe insanity must have caught up with her hearing. She had heard about wolves hearing voices in their heads while being exposed to crippling sanity. The wolf, no longer able to bear such blazing light, grabbed her bleeding left wing by her mouth and heaved it above her head. The pain was immediate and undeniable, but it will be temporary. That she reassured herself with.

The wolf heard a small ring in her ears once more. "Hmph, stubborn." Perhaps her sanity really was slipping away- just like her vision of the world before her. Her sight was starting to blur as though a dense fog covered her eyes. Her head felt rather airy. It made her wish to crumbled onto the ground and vomit out her worries. Her legs trembled with each step forward. It felt nauseating to even have a glance at them. So, she shut her blue eyes from the world of reality and laid on the bloodstained grass.

It felt soft. The winds grazed her every streak of fur and she did not feel spiked through by the grass' tips. The sun's light did not seeped through her eye lids and blind her for once. Euphoria. She had not known it before, but now she knew.

"Well, wake up. Come on now, the day's soon near over if you continue on like this," the strange voice spoke again. Whatever was in her head truly wasn't going to fly away and was slowly becoming an annoyance. She fluttered her eyes open and bared her teeth. Her gaze met brown fur and a wolf's scent. Ah, so she was on another wolf's property. But there was also the scent of trees. How were there trees if she has not seen a single one throughout her journey in the fields?

"What are you?" she said with a threatening growl. The wolf swore she hadn't seen a single being. The land has been avoided for centuries due to the disappearances of many on its ground. She pushed herself up with staggering paws and blinked away the fog in her eyes. She was right. It was a wolf. What she noticed however, was that it had wings. Wings. The wolf was the same species as her. Maybe she wasn't alone in this world after all.

"I think you meant who are you. 'What' seems a tad bit insulting, don't you think?" The voice was calm, alluring even. They came from a mother or a caring lover's mouth.

"Not really," retorted the white-winged wolf, teeth still bared as her claws dug into the surprisingly cold soil. She paced back and forth with her eyes glued onto the stranger's.

A chuckle. "Woah there. Harsh."

"Where even am I? How did I end up in here?" Trees surrounded them and leaves shrouded the light from above. It was unnerving.

"My forest, of course," stated the stranger as though it was a true fact. Claiming an entire forest was an outrageous move by wolves. One would be the main target for leaders who yearned for larger land. It was no wonder shock embedded itself onto her face. "You came here while yearning something, no? It is how-"

"You own the whole forest? So this is your pack?" said she, interrupting the wolf who gave an eye roll in return.

The stranger lifted a paw up to her chin. "Pack? What do you mean 'pack'? Wolves have packs? Well, I've seen a few groups-"

"Are you some sort of abandoned wolf? How could you not know what a pack is?"

"I told you I owned the forest, yes?" said the stranger with a smug grin.

"You're trying to change the topic."

"Huh, you really are stubborn. And no, I'm not trying to change anything. Like I said, I own this forest."

"So you scented and claimed the whole damn thing?" snarked the she-wolf.

"Wow, you're hard to get along with. I am the forest, dimwit. I'm just in a more comfortable form. Ever heard of Fossens? You know, guardians of mythical places or whatnot."

The white-winged wolf shifted her gaze towards the ground. "So you're a Fossen?"

"Finally. The other animals I've met in the past sure didn't take as long as you did, geez."

"Are you calling me an idiot?"

The Fossen shrugged. "Calm your claws, wolf. What is your name anyways?"

"I have none."

"Interesting. Well, I am Fores. Horrible name, I know. It was what the first animal who came through here called me, though."

"Why am I even here?"

"This 'here' you call is Moonshone Forest- basically my official name." If Fores was blind, she wouldn't see the rage building up within the white-winged wolf's face. "Rushing to someplace, wolf?"

"Stop calling me 'wolf'."

"What am I supposed to call you then? White? Light? Moon? Don't give me that look! Your fur is white."

"Whatever."

"How about Moonlight? Your fur fits the moon quite well. 'Light' because- well, since this forest is called Moonshone, it means the moon would shine light on you! Genius, am I right?"

"It's... acceptable."

"Well then, Moonlight, let me tend to your wounds." Fores outstretched a paw and lifted her left wing. Worry was evident on her. "They're larger than I expected. How'd you get those?"

"A bloody fight against my past pack leader."

"Ah- sensitive topic. Apologies."

"It is fine. I am free now. My pack members too. No longer will an Alpha rule over my freedom and theirs. I have no pack to go to anyways."

"Hm, is that so? You could stay and start a pack here! We could recruit your kind to stay with us if they too have no where to go." A forlorn look dawned in the Fossen's eyes. "I've been alone for far too long. It'll be nice to have some little animals scurrying around."

They say what has been done shall never be changed. A life taken, a life lost. Yet, one can still break through the chains of fate which binds them. Those who believe in the chains find themselves freedom.

Fores, Fallen Guardian Of Moonshone Forest:
Stripped of life, she rests in eternal slumber with memories long decayed like a rotting carcass. Yet in her heart, the forgotten Guardian held onto the single promise muttered from the lips of her imprisoned Moon.

"I yearn for you though still trapped in their grasps. I shall break you and our pack free on another day when the moon rises with a thirst for bloodshed. For now, stay."

Chasm, The Resisting Prisoner Of Silence And Secrecy:
Her mouth is to be shut and sown for she held the truth. She knew too much. From the moment she stepped into Moonshone Forest, she had seen all there is to see. Now, she carries the burden of witnessing them in silence.

Eternal, Unrivaled Shield And Sword Of The Weak:
Trapped within the walls of trees whose bark was of stone, he was the first 'outsider' to yearn and fall into the merciless Guardian's wrath. For his life was forever long, he swore an oath to be the defender of the weak during a bloodmoon's reign.

The forest has a beginning, but no true end. In its woods lie paths only those who grew accustomed to the dark would notice. None dare to mess with the paths for they've already seen the worst of them all.

The path there was damp and muddy. The winds brought no comfort nor warmth, only the reminder of solitude. Grass green turned bright blue when stepped on. There wasn't much except for a strangely vacant den overgrown with vines and a wolf-sized stone statue placed in front of it. Well- at least half of it was stone. The rest were probably made from the same material as well, but it was covered by dirt. That explained the numerous brown patches on it. The carvings on the statue were finely detailed, enough to convince someone that it was alive.

[Look Closer]

The trees there were evenly parted unlike the others. Their long branches curved to meet with the ones on the opposite side, forming elegant archways. Light was not hidden by leaves. It blinded the shadows and darkness in the path's presence. At its end, a large well stood tall. Moss covered its slippery surface and water seeped through its cracked stone walls. A ghostly figure was leaned over the well's edge, and he glared at its waters.

[Approach]

The path was narrow. A bit too narrow for a wolf's liking. It felt as though only an agile mouse could fit in there. Yet, persistence didn't fail and one would find themselves in a large clearing at the end. The ground was covered in blooming flowers whose colors shone brighter than the sun itself. It was sight to behold. One might want to rest in the safe haven, but the deep-red stains on paws while grazing the flowers urged them not to.

—— ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ ——

The path led to nothing but a body of water in a large hole. The bottom of it seemed endless. One can hear no crickets, no rustles of leaves, not even the blowing wind. It was simply silent. There was nothing there except for the three eyes staring from afar, hiding in the forest's shadows. And before long, they were gone.
