The Exclusion Zone [Chernobyl] - Semi-Realistic Wolf RP - Apply Here!

Posted 2020-10-28 22:05:48 (edited)
Beautiful concept as always West, I'd love to be part of this.

Are you knowledgeable on Chernobyl?: Decently so, and I can always do a little more research.

Character Count: 2-4. Sometimes more.

Interested in High Rank(s)?: Hell yeah! Not to enjoy the roleplay though if there are better suited people.

Typical Response Length/Time: 300-500 words is probably my norm. Sometimes I'll go over that if I'm feeling inspired. I try to reply a few times a week and will typically let you know if I'm being held up for any reason.

Should There be a Rival Dog Pack?: Yes!  've always been fascinated by the predicament of dogs in Chernobyl and would love the chance for more character diversity in that regard. I even have a spicy character for this one that might work if you're open to hearing about it!

Should the Town of Pripyat (the closest to Chernobyl Nuclear Plant) be a visit-able location?: Yes, that'd be rad. I agree it should probably be a dangerous venture though.

Suggestions? Ideas?: My only suggestion would be to maybe be a little more lenient with posting expectations. Activity is important of course, but seeing as most of us are adults with lives it would be comforting to have a little more leeway I think.

Concerns? Questions?: None at the moment!

Roleplay Sample: Every footstep felt labored as Vincent meandered across winding dunes, the sweltering heat creating beads of sweat on his concealed skin. Thick garments bleached to hues of light cream did little to ease his suffering, yet were an absolute necessity. One of few people among the Irredeemables with impossibly pale skin, it was of utmost importance he never exposed himself to the 'sun's harsh, unrelenting rays, perhaps even more so than his companions, most of whom possessed darker, weathered complexions. He envied them at times, longing for something to bind him to these people. Instead, everything about him screamed outsider, from the vibrant orange of his hair to pallid skin and a gaze amber as a setting sun.

A dark visor shielded his eyes, a sizable crack splitting through the left lens. Despite the flaw, it worked well enough, so long as he didn't stare directly into the sky. Combined with a faded blue bandana covering his mouth and nose, Vincent still very much looked the part of a rogue, he imagined. Lithe shapes moved around him, the oldest of the five at the front while the yearlings trotted dutifully at his sides. The hounds nearly blended in with their surroundings, dark eyes and black noses all that stood out among the russet sands they tread upon. Their tongues hung out of their mouths, their reddish pelts glistening with perspiration. Despite their exhaustion, their tails spiraled in contented wags, and Vincent reflected, not for the first time, how blissful the life of a dog must be. Regardless of their circumstances, they were rarely unhappy. Their work gave them purpose, and Vincent's attention was all they craved in the form of human contact. It wasn't hard to please them.

What felt like an eternity later, the tent's silhouette appeared in the distance. The yearlings put on a burst of speed, breaking from the pack in their eagerness to return home. Azalea and Orchid were the friendliest of the hounds, more likely than the adults to tolerate petting and prodding from the children, though Vincent tried to keep them from them all the same. It would only take one bite to seal their fate or end a child's life prematurely. Whistling sharply, he called them back. Both faltered, narrow faces swiveling back to stare at him. Orchid obeyed immediately, pivoting on his heels and galloping back toward him. Azalea remained where she stood, one paw raised mid-air. After a moment, however, she rejoined her brother, and he rewarded both with small dried scraps of meat he kept in his pockets.

A group of screaming children raced past once he reached the tent, the dogs' gleaming eyes following them as if the sight of smaller creatures screaming and fleeing evoked something predatory in them. Another sharp whistle recaptured their attention, and the dogs heeded, their interest in pursuing the aforementioned youngsters fading. They dispersed soon after, seeking out shade before flopping onto their sides, their heavy panting subsiding into soft snores before long. All Vincent had to show for all their hard work was the hare hanging loosely from his left hand by the ears, a deep tear in its throat coated with congealing blood, but he hadn't expected they would find much without the assistance of the hawk master. This trip out into the dissolute had been a momentary escape from the trouble currently plaguing his community. Hunting cleared his mind, brought him some sense of control and stability. He was able to think with a clear mind now, and concluded all he could feel for the pale boy, and the odd stranger, was a mixture of pity and concern.

Not so long ago, he was nothing if not a stranger himself, inspiring mistrust and fear in those around him. Even still, he knew some of them found his presence unnerving. Considering he had a habit of merely lingering without speaking, standing off to the side unless summoned, he supposed such reactions were fair. One last glance assured the dogs were behaving before roaming around the tent, spotting Bugsy and Molly not far from the entrance. He would nod at them, offer a silent wave if they should take notice, before disappearing inside. Seeking out Fingers, he removed the visor and handkerchief before addressing her. "How is the boy, and the newcomer?" He didn't expect a verbal answer of course, but hoped she might bring him to them. "I caught this for them," he added with an awkward cough, holding up the hare carcass for inspection. "It's not much, but maybe the fur can be crafted into something for the child, and we could all use the meat."

Are you knowledgeable on Chernobyl?: Not very, but this gives me an excuse to finally look into it more.

Character Count: 2-4 (likely will only start with 1)

Interested in High Rank(s)?: Not really.

Typical Response Length/Time: Weeeeeell I haven’t RPed in a while and honestly just got back into it, and the one I’m in is going a bit slowly so the responses have only been about 200 words but if I had to guess, 200-300 and it would take 1-2 days depending on what’s happening that day.

Should There be a Rival Dog Pack?: Yeeeeees. Maybe not right away, but I’d love to see that pop up.

Should the Town of Pripyat (the closest to Chernobyl Nuclear Plant) be a visit-able location?: Absolutely. I watched a movie once where tourists could pay a guy in Pripyat to sneak them into Chernobyl, or I think that's where they found him at. The movie is literally just called Chernobyl if you're interested in looking it up. It was a pretty B-rated movie though.

Suggestions? Ideas?: You should definitely let me make a sparkle wolf. JK.

Concerns? Questions?: Will there be like points of interest? I believe I remember part of the radiation was called “the Elephant” and they had to point a mirror down the corridor just to get a picture of it because the radiation was so harmful. Will stuff like that still be deadly to them or will the years of exposure to radiation make even the site of the meltdown seem like child’s play to them?

Roleplay Sample:  (In case of confusion: Gato is non-binary and talks sort of like a cross between a Scotsman and a pirate? They're with a tabby cat named Clover looking for a long lost treasure.)

Gato lifted their head to look at Clover, a small smile on their face. “Aye, lass, there’s many stories of the wild cats that once lived beyond the hard gray roads of twoleg land. Ye know, tha’s one of the great things ‘bout wanderin’. Ye hear all these tales, an’ ye get ta go out and see if they’re true. Well, exc’pt with them battle cats er whatev’r they called themselves. Suppose’ ta be that none are alive anymore. A shame, really. Always good ta learn ‘bout different folk. I’m hopin’ this here treasure is somethin’ o’ theirs.”

As their eyes moved to gaze in the direction the shells were leading, a flash of something bright caught their eye. Their head jerked in the direction they saw it in time to watch this red and blue thing clip a tree and fall right out of the sky and into the long grass ahead. With a quick glance at Clover, they bounded off, pausing roughly every five tail-lengths to push up on their hind legs and see where the grass was pressed down.

The grass began to thin out a bit and as they pushed through, the strange object came into sight. It had a beak like a bird, but its body was a brilliant red with yellow, green, and deep blue feathers covering its wings, which were splayed out on the ground where it fell. A long, light blue and red tail trailed behind it on the ground.

“What is it?” Gato murmured, crouching low and stretching their neck to sniff at it. “Looks like a bird, but… it’s not like any ‘round these parts. Ya think it’s edible, lass?”

Suddenly the bird’s eyes jerked open and it frantically fluttered its way onto its feet. Gato’s fur puffed out in response and their eyes grew wide staring at the thing.

“No!” the bird cawed. “Don’t eat me! I’m not good! I- I-” It searched desperately for words as it hopped on its clawed feet, trying to hide the lame wing from the cats’ view. An idea suddenly sparked in its mind. “I bet you’re out here looking for those forest cats!”

Gato shot a glance at Clover as if to say, Should we trust this thing? It had certainly caught the gray cat’s attention with this, if for no other reason than they could actually understand its odd, chirping words. They’d certainly never met a bird that could speak before.

Thank you, both Woodkin and Zesha! So happy to see you both here!

As of right now, it is looking as though some, if not all, of Pripyat will be an open location within the RP. I'm thinking that we will start with pack roles and perhaps 3-5 dog roles, and when those fill, I will open space for a dog pack, should there still be interest after we begin!

@Woodkin - to answer the concern of activity levels, let me re-write the rule. A post within the main thread - where the main events and all storyline-focused RPing will take place - will be required at least once a week. Unless there are personal circumstances permitting, like school, work, etc. But I'd prefer the main thread to stay moving so that the storyline can progress without getting stale or everyone losing interest, as I see happen with a lot of slower RPs. There will be other threads, non-main threads (sorted by locations), where you can "move" your character to if you feel as though you'll be inactive for 8+ days, which will permit the main thread to move at normal pace and "side" RPs to occur at their own pace without activity restrictions.

(I hope I'm explaining this well. For example, the main thread would simply be 'The Exclusion Zone'  - any of the map can be used for this thread and this is where most admin-operated NPCs, events, and updates will appear! The other threads will be in-depth locations, so there might be one for Pripyat, one for Chernobyl Nuclear, and even a few other various, more forested locations on the map. These threads are to allow quicker-replying members to develop their characters in the world without affecting the current plot/storyline progression. I really hope that made a semblance of sense!)

@Zesha - I'm sure you mean points of interest within the plotline, but I will answer both questions my mind took! As for points of interest on the map, there will be certain species of mutated beings only found in certain areas, as well as the town and the nuclear plant itself - and one more surprise location I have yet to reveal! All of these locations will be where some main events take place and where a lot of the NPCs originate from. I am still working out all of the map quirks and details, though, so I'll leave it at that for now!

As for main points of interest action-wise, there will be some as well. I am also still working on those. I am very open to ideas on if anyone wants something to possibly occur within the RP! As of now, the affects of the radiation will vary from wolf to wolf and dog to dog, some carrying heavy mutations and able to withstand the radiation alright, and others only carrying non-visible mutations, and being adversely affected by high levels of radiation. On some level, all animals withstand it well enough to survive. Some thrive - like our unique predator and some of the mentioned prey - and others just live until the radiation finally takes them. And there are levels everywhere in between!

The site of the nuclear blast itself will affect every animal, with most falling ill anywhere from 100 to 200 yards from the building. The illness varies from species to species and with each genetic variation of the wolves (and dogs), they will all be affected differently as well - from dizziness, vomiting, loss of motor control, etc., and even short or long term affects, such as temporary burning of the skin or hide, inability to get enough air, etc. The wolves will naturally want to avoid the area - it gives an aura of foreboding to any who venture near - and will be more affected than the dogs, who were abandoned in the towns and are therefore more used to living with the radiation. As long as the affects are semi-realistic, and your character is not immune, then have fun with what level of radiation-tolerance your character has.

I definitely went off on a tangent there. Back to points of interest - there are other places I am considering throwing in, like the Pripyat Mines and the Bridge of Death. The people of the mines, those that lived in Pripyat, were the ones that were contracted to remove all of the debree from the explosion site. They were a lot of the force that saved lives, giving their own lives for the world, and I feel like that would be a good place to have explorable. The Bridge of Death was a railway bridge only 2 kilometers from the explosion - it was used in a Chernobyl docuseries, and though fictional, was said to have been where a group of people watched the Reactor burn. I'm still working on others, and am open to suggestions!

Are you knowledgeable on Chernobyl?:

I have seen a few documentaries and have played in a Chernobyl role-play server before. I really do love the history of it.

Character Count:

1-3

Interested in High Rank(s)?:

I am but they aren't completely necessary for me to be happy. I am used to playing a lead roll but I'm not desperate.
Typical Response Length/Time:

I usually respond within the hour, unless I am very busy. The minimum I'll ever post is 5 sentences. I don't have a maximum as it depends on the topic of role-play at that moment.

Should There be a Rival Dog Pack?:

I think it would bring about some interesting plots, could definitely be something I'd be interested to see.

Should the Town of Pripyat (the closest to Chernobyl Nuclear Plant) be a visit-able location?:

I'd say no, personally, but it's not my call.

Suggestions? Ideas?:

None that I can think of right now, but if I think of some I'll be quick to voice my ideas!

Concerns? Questions?:

None as of yet, but I'd like to offer help in making the server, I have years of experience in leading a full role-play, ic and ooc so I'd be more than happy to assist if it's needed!

Roleplay Sample:

The fierce black female moved with hast down the old barren street, her large paws kicking at debris as she went. Her tall ears lay back against her neck, her amber eyes showed nothing but anguish and pain, anger at the world for what it had done to her.

Suddenly she broke out into a run, charging down the street before she took a sharp left and skidded to a halt at the opening to the library. Her shoulders quivered as the amount of tension in her body struggled to be released. Clouds of vapour poured from her nostrils as she panted heavily, eyeing the large doorway to the broken down building.

Eventually she stepped inside of it, her body still shaking. The young she-wolf glanced about as she gently crept forward, heading deeper into the house of human stories.

The lingering dust made her nose twitch in discomfort, she grunted and shook her head, ears still laid back.

Finding her way to the top of the structure, the pitch black wolf stood bolt upright, muscles clenched as hard as she could manage and she let out a pained howl. Her chest filled with her remorse, the sheer sound of it would have brought heartache to anyone who heard it.

Her voice strained and wained into the wind, until the last of her cry drifted away. She sniffed and frowned up at the sky, cursing whoever were in charge, as if a higher being had sort to punish her, as if it were someone's fault, as if her firstborn were meant to die.

And so I give in xD

Are you knowledgeable on Chernobyl?:

About as much as we talked about together xD

Character Count: Generally 1 to 2, but I’ve been known to hold like 3 or 4 in a roleplay at a time

Interested in High Rank(s)?:

Pfft of course, but I’m also willingly to play other roles to keep things balanced.
Typical Response Length/Time:

Well currently, as long as  my school work isn’t too overwhelming I’m pretty fast at my responses.

Should There be a Rival Dog Pack?:

I would LOVE to see a rival dog pack and will help with anything needed for it~

Should the Town of Pripyat (the closest to Chernobyl Nuclear Plant) be a visit-able location?: I would love to see it as playable, maybe that’s where the dog pack comes in? They venture into town and bam doggos lol

Suggestions? Ideas?: Other than the town one, I can’t think of my suggestions at the moment, but I’ll definitely let you know c:

Concerns? Questions?: N/A

Roleplay Sample: Psh we be in a roleplay together.

I'm super happy to see more interest!

(And super happy to see you here, Sweet Potato c: )

I'm currently working on some replies for my other RPs and then later today I should be able to ALMOST finalize the main segments for TEZ. If I don't get up the Discord tonight, it will certainly be done tomorrow, and everyone who has applied here will be contacted regardinging the invitation! That way we can all see the setup, share ideas, and get character creation started sooner rather than later.

Thank you all for your interest and communication! It has definitely helped me shape the map and the setting, as well as some of our conflicts down the line!

I have officially messaged everyone who filled out an application/roleplay sample and sent out the invites!

The server is definitely still in it's beginning stages, but I'm hoping I can have things finished up in the next few days detail-wise, but as of now, all of General and Out of Character are open for business! Feel free to chat, ask questions, fill out a character sheet (or two!), and get acquainted with the world.
