Lifespan of lead wolves and breeding males

I know that ordinary pack wolves will die on a random rollover between ages 7 and 8, however I'm unclear on what happens for lead wolves and/or breeding males. Some people seem to think the same mechanics (random death date between 7 and 8) still apply, while others suggest that they will always make it to eight years old, then die on the next rollover. Still others say that breeding males act like any pack member, but leads always live to eight.

Which is true?
