With visibly tired posture, Lichen dragged himself to the hidden den that stored their food. It was cool and dark, with the slight smell of copper from blood. He dropped the fawn carcass on the floor and covered it with few good smelling branches. "The next scout, huh?" He asked with a sleepy smile as he walked towards the chief's den under the reddish brown rocks. The den was quiet and clean, with soft nests for the little family. He plopped down onto his side of the nest, yawning with an added dramatic flare. "Oh, the life of a scout is so hard. I'm so tired my bones have fallen asleep! If only there was a brave adventurer who'd wear my mantle once I'm old and dusty." He put a paw over his forehead and rolled on his back. "These wild lands need bright eyes and strong hearts and I'm all alone doing it!" Akantha With her head held high, Akantha strode over to Shimmer. "May I have a word with you? Jive's escaped the pack again to hang out at the border. I need you to keep a better eye on her when Lichen's gone and I'm on duty. This keeps happening." She said with a firm tone, her crown lightly tilted on her head. |

"I'll go with you!" Jive offered excitedly, running around her father in circles. Her violet eyes wide, she grinned at Lichen. "I'm not old or tired at all! And I'm super good at finding stuff. And wolves too! Like Lante! And Salie!" Her enthusiasm never seemed to run out as she chattered on. |

Shimmer rolls off her back and sits up, her ears falling slightly as she looks at Akantha, "i- I'm sorry ma'am . . . I was busy with the other pups . . . . i didnt realize . . ." she bows her head a little, wishing she had more to say. |

Fossil PackFlaming Stars (Flare) ~ She/They ~ HerbalistFlare rolls her eyes a Scorpion but then reajusts her ears, she had loved the stories she was told about the Goddess as a pup, and loved to retell those stories . . . she huffs and looks at buck, before picking off a kind of leaf that was on the decoration she made, it didnt alter much, and she would likely just add another one later, she huffs and blows it at Buck. "those leaves are really good for decor but they're offen hard to find, im running a bit low on them." she looks down at the pups. "If i try and tell you these tails are you going to pay attention?" they huff, not wanting to waste her time if the young ones wouldn't listen. |

"Oh but you are too young, little sprout! I must bear this heavy weight of responsibility alone!" He spun on his stomach, sighing dramatically before dropping his head onto the plush nest. "See how this job drains ones energy? Are you certain you want to be a scout? Look at your father, wasting away, oh nooooo." With a quiet howl after the "no", he closed his eyes and snorted with humorous tone. "I'm telling you kid, this is hard. Once you're old enough, I can start mentoring you. If I can talk your mum out of her plan, that is." He opened one of his eyes to look at Jive. He wanted her to live her dream, but his say was just as powerful as Akantha's. "Would you bear to run in the freezing rain or burning sunlight? Or avoid threats, like I did today. Coyotes hunt in packs and they tried to lure me closer. If it wasn't for my gut, I would've been royally screwed." Akantha With a disappointed look, she nodded at Shimmer. "I know it's difficult, but I'm not asking much. Only few months and she'll be ready to train for her future. I can't do any of it if she's running off to the border. No one can reach her quick enough if something happens." She glanced at the other pups and back where his family had walked off to, and sat down with a quiet groan. "I'm not blaming you. It's just...difficult these days." Akantha didn't want to be harsh, but she couldn't help being so nervous all the time. Lashing out at anyone would be out of the question. |

Scorpion glanced down at the pups, who nodded eagerly. Tapping her claws in the sand and shaking them, Scorpion nodded as well. She also liked to hear the old stories, tales that warned against pride, depression, or rage. Tilting her head, Scorpion sat down to listen, her ears pricked in interest. Spring Clan | Jive Jive blinked, and her face suddenly became serious, strange for the energetic young pup. "You know I would, Dad," she said quietly, her eyes big as she looked up at him. "I don't care what I have to do. It would all be worth it, to find new things, to see things that no one has ever seen before. Beyond the Danger and on and onβ¦" Her voice grew dreamy as her face opened up into a smile. She rolled over and cuddled up against Lichen's legs. "Dad, why'd you decide to be a scout?" She asked mumblingly. |

"It was. It was sort of put upon me by your grandma. I'm from the outside so I suppose the chief saw potential in me that could be useful in scouting. I can do longer trips for much longer timeframe but as you can see-" He let out another long yawn. "I need to rest longer, too." Lichen's head dropped back onto the soft moss and feathers. "I honestly can sense the same potential in you. You're just a pup but there's time to train when you're older. You're tough like me." He smiled sleepily and draped a paw over Jive supportively. |

Burying her head in Lichen's fur, Jive yawned cutely, poking her father's head with her nose. Finally remembering to ask, Jive poked him again. "What'd you see today?" She mumbled, blinking. She seemed rather sleepy, but she was always willing to listen to Dad's stories. |

"many, many howls ago, before you, or even me, lived in this very oasis, a scorpian goddess lived in peace," she wraps her tail over her paws, almost looking feline with how tall she held herself. "Serket was her name. but she could not live in peace forever, because other creatures, such as the hawk, snakes, and even wolves like ourselves would seek her out for her immortal life . . ." |

Scorpion nodded fondly, remembering the familiar story. It had been told to her by her family an friends over and over, alongside many others, until it was ingrained into her memory. Familiar and comfortable. Glancing at the pups, whose eyes were glued to Flare, Scorpion could see that they were invested. She smiled. This story's ending was a bit frightening, but it would give the pups a small idea of how dangerous the world was, and how they needed to be tough to survive in it. |
