???

The man made his way down the steps of his office, fixing the mask that covered only one side of his face. He watched the adolescents that milled around the clearing, waiting for the bus of new arrivals to come. He pushed his way through the crowd, getting on the large platform on one side of the open area as the bus came through the second set of gates, while the guards made sure no children escaped.

The doors to the bus opened and kids filtered out of it, some of the older ones trying to get rough with the guards but soon being put in line by the large tasers they carried. He held his hands clasped behind his back, smiling maliciously. "Welcome, newcomers. To Prismatic Penitentiary."

Archimedes

The teenager watched from the red's bunk room as the new arrivals filed out of the bus, frowning slightly. "Fucking hell, more kids. Just what we need." He said sarcastically, face twisting as if he just ate something sour. He was bored out of his mind, considering they wouldnt have training until the new kids were sorted into their respective colors.

He groaned as the Lieutenant started his monologue, "what a prick." He mumbled, careful to not let the guards in the room hear him. He'd certainly get a punishment if they did. Like last time. Though, he honestly couldn't care less, he'd rather not spend his time in the infirmary.

The young man sat on his plain, uninteresting thin-sheeted bed leaning back against the plain, uninteresting wall in the Red's room, his head turned just-enough to let him watch the regimented arrival from another window. It was always the same. The same words. The same movements. There was one thing he did look forward to, though- the reliable hero. Those kids that tried to make a break for it or stand up to the guard as if they would be the one. Sometimes he damn near felt spoiled when a group tried to run. It was better than television- or at least what he could remember of television.

He saw one kid out of the corner of his too-light ice-touched eyes hit the ground, twisting uncomfortably for a moment to grab at his head before laying still- either unconscious or begging to not receive another strike. It was a bloody shame he missed what the kid did; even moreso that he couldn't hear the mumbled replies. The sharp instructions and shouted punishing phrases were standard- predictable. He sat in silence for a long time-Β  a too-still shadow of a figure against the corner, staring like a captive predator at the prey that had come unawares to his table. At the sarcastic words of Archimedes, his gaze shifted slightly to look his way.

"You can't tell me you're entertained enough by the ones we already have, mate." His Irish brogue was still strong, despite the time he'd spent here. Dry sarcasm painted his own tones, the words curled by the vague crooked grin that touched the corner of his mouth. "Let the newcomers get their feet wet. Maybe one of them will bring something useful to training."

Under, under, under, pause. Under, under, under.... the Lieutenant's voice. New arrivals. Kaisa sighed, already mourning the loss of training. It was sore, harsh, and honestly just dehumanising.... but it was better than being stuck in this form. Better than having to deal with whatever punishments the younger, foolish children would have dealt on them. Maybe they'd get better food, more food, now that they had to recalculate how many serves were needed. Unless they'd already done so.... oh well. Better to hope rather than dismiss it.

An almost laugh at her own stupidly optimistic attitude, Kaisa twisted to her side, folding an arm under her head as she watched the door. "Think any will try fight against the guards? How long d'ya reckon it'll take for them to get over it?" She questioned the silent room, soft voice curling up at the ends of her sentence.

β–Ί Sira β—„

Bouncing to her feet, the younger girl hopped off of her bunk, trying to peer at the new arrivals. Hopefully they'd have more company soon! Maybe there'd be a group able to show those guards better, maybe they'd get a shot of getting away! Sira sighed, tucking her hands together. She glanced to the guards, almost as though they could hear her thoughts. Silly of her. But the worry lingered.

The Lieutenant started to speak but Sira had long tuned it out, returning to her bunk instead. They felt restless. Twitchy. This was boring. They wanted to be back in the garden, not this place.

The Lieutenant

He smiled, although obviously the crowd could only see half. "Now, as I'm sure all of you know. You'll be staying here for... well, the rest of your miserable lives." He said, so cheerfully it almost didnt sound like an insult. But of course, the malice in his eye showed that it wasnt supposed to be nice.

"Dont try to escape, you'll be caught. Dont try to talk back, youll be punished. Get the gist?" He asked, scanning the croud, "Yes? Good, if you go with the guards you'll be tested and sorted. Your clothes will be taken, and you'll be given the uniform." He said, gesturing towards the other kids. "Any questions?"

Archimedes

He looked over at the other kid in red, rolling his eyes slightly. He didnt know what his name was, and he couldn't care less honestly. "I would rather none of the kids that are here even be here so.." He frowned, raising an eyebrow. He had seen this guy around, he wasnt the most conventional person he had ever met.

He wondered where this kid was from, the irish accent echoing around his ears. "Oh, please. I doubt any of these kids are Reds. They're so..." He didnt even know how to describe it, they were just uninteresting. They should've known better than to try and fight against the guards, but once again they didnt surprise him and fought. Just like the others had. Archie had been here so long, he couldn't remember if he had fought back on his first day or not. And he honestly didnt care.

He knew the other Red, at least by name and general rumor. He made a habit of knowing those that were either to be Useful.. or problematic. Despite the time that had already passed, he hadn't yet come to a conclusion for this one. The smirk on his dark-lined face grew by a degree or two, those stark eyes still just watching Archimedes, studious and cold. "Aye.." He drawled, his words always unhurried, unbothered, "That's likely the most popular opinion around here." That none of the kids be present, he meant. It sounded more like a joke than agreement, though pulling the two possibilities apart from his expression wouldn't be possible. From his unnaturally statuesque position, a bit of movement snuck its way into his posture, his left thumb teasing across the wrinkles in the palm of his ragged black wrap that hid most of his left hand. It was thoughtful- one of his few ticks that arise from his eerie stillness in consideration.

"I didn't particularly mean their skillset. That's a given." He corrected, implying that the skills of the ones gathering below were already expected to fail even the most basic of expectations, his accent tainted by what seemed like persistent dark amusement, "They've been on the outside longer than we have, or at least more recently." He for one has had his moments beyond the gates and guards, but he always enjoyed leaving the details to be portrayed with wild inaccuracy by whatever kids decided to talk about it. The things they came up with... Well, they were often better than reality. "Aren't you even the slightest bit curious what they might have to say?"

"Think any will try fight against the guards? How long d'ya reckon it'll take for them to get over it?"

The only other person in the room, a girl gave a light chuckle. "What, you mean like the both of us?" The day that bus and rolled in, carrying the future, and at the moment, only blacks - shapeshifters- Kai had rolled up her sleeves and jumped the guards. Nyx had shrugged, chuckled, then jumped into the fray. Mutilple broken bones were given to both sides. The two had had to be knocked out, then dragged back to where they were going to be assigned.

Shapeshifting. And, guards, for the kids who would esapce. And just for them, microchips for tracking. Karma was a bitch. Nyx thumbed the inside of her forarm, fingers running over the slightly raised scar from it.

"And as for getting over it, well, does anyone?"

It was still hard to believe what had happened. It went by in a blur. Grief, swift and sudden, when her younger brother died. Anger, at being dragged away to this military camp. And a cold detachment. You couldn't be attached to the kids you were expecting to hunt down and kill with out mercy should they run away. Even if in your heart, you would've run with them, too.

At least it hadn't happened recently.

"I'd be asking, are we getting anymore roommates? It's getting quite boring to wake up to your snoring ass every morning. We could do with some more 'shifters." Just ,please not a kid, gods, not a kid... She didn't want to do baby sitting.

She glanced back out the window from where she was perched on her bed, legs folded beneath her. The Lieutenant was being dramatic, as usual. A small amused sigh escaped her.

"S'pose not. And excuse you, I'm fucking fabulous. I practically... practically lighten this place, bringing joy to everyone who encounters me." Kaisa grumbled at Nyx, shoving her face into the practically brick like pillow.

Letting out a loud groan Kai kept her head burrowed in the pillow, trying to drown out the monotone drone of the Lieutenant. "Is he almost done yet? Could he hurry it along so that we can get on with.... today? Tonight? Whatever it is. Whenever. You get it." Good enough. No one knew for certain... apart from the Lieutenant of course. How long had it been? Must've been over two years by now.

Leda was gone, the girl across the street turned lifeline to getting through the place... before martyr, trying to attack the Lieutenant and eventually drugged so badly she didn't remember Kaisa, leading to the large scar on her back. Memories bubbled to the surface at that line of thought, red wash over white walls and Kaisa rolled over. Who else? There used to be more shifters. Most died. Some left scars, mental and physical.

Kaisa worried for herself, the film over her eye was only just there but already starting to throw depth perception off. Especially as a bird. A few circuits of the training area ago, she'd missed the perch with wings smacking into it as the shifter tried to regain her composure and balance. Anyway. Better to focus on whoever might be coming inside.

The Lieutenant

He wouldnt answer their questions even if they did have any, and he was pretty sure they knew that. He stepped off of the platform, smiling maliciously to himself as he spotted one of the reds through the window, saluting him mockingly before making his way back up to his office. He wouldnt be making an appearance for another week or so, unless one of the arrivals decided to goof off. Which was likely. He sat down at his desk, sliding his mask off and leaning back in his chair.

Archimedes

Archimedes laughed, a cold, harsh laugh. "Why should I care about the o outside world? They left us to rot in this prison with that monster." He said, gesturing in the direction of the Lieutenant with a disgusted look on his face. "As far as I'm concerned, there is no outside world." He said, keeping his tone level the entire time. He focused his gaze in the clearing again, nose wrinkling at The Lieutenant's salute, that he knew was just a mocking gesture. Considering the Red had absolutely no power in this place.

He took a deep breath, shaking his head and flopping down on his bed. He didnt care about the rest of the people, not that he cared in the first place. He closed his eyes, trying to block out the other Red. Though he knew that would be a fruitless effort.

Calliope

The teen got up, frowning slightly as the other kids in the bus filed out without giving the guards any trouble. How stupid were they? Did they think compliance would help in a place like this? She knew better, this wasnt her first rodeo when it came to the law. But it was never like this, and being locked in a military base definitely would be worse than juvie. As she walked down the bus steps, she took on the facade of being blind.

When she reached the bottom, she felt around in the air as if she were trying to figure out where she was. And as soon as a guard came up to get her to move along, she grabbed his head and brought it down on her knee before kicking him backwards. She held her fists up, "Come at me." Callie growled, her delicate mouth twisted into a scowl. When a guard came at her with his taser, she ducked underneath as he jabbed with it before reaching her leg up and kicking it out of his hand.

She was too preoccupied with the other guards that she didnt notice when one came up behind her, tasing her. She gritted her teeth in pain, falling to the ground with a thud. "Shit.." She whispered, trying to push herself up from the ground before being pushed down again.

"You never want out then, I take it."Β  Luci surmised from the other's response, one brow raising in an expression that was schooled to say nothing else. The assumption in and of itself wasn't condemning. It was more simply a note taken. Note...worthy. Something to squirrel away about the guy to consider later if it happened to be helpful to him. "How terribly obedient of you. We should all take after your leadership." A huffed breath made in the likeness of an abbreviated chuckle trailed the mocking praise towards his apparently less-than-enthusiastic recipient.

Eventually, abyssal gaze relieved Archimedes of his attention, turning back to the activities that swarmed below. He watched expressions, behavior, intent. The ones with fire behind their eyes- the ones that still wanted, still fought, and (even better), those who had nothing left to lose were the ones he waited for.

Abruptly- "That's more like it." He commented about the ongoings, the phrase almost malicious. Devious. Almost excited in his own corrupt way at the girl who hit the ground, tazed. It wasn't the heroics of that fabulous knee to the head or the neat and tidy follow-up... It was the way she came off that bus in the first place. What a delightful little plan. "I wish we could have our pick of the litter rather than waiting to see which fall out when shaken hard enough."
