How did you decide on what animal to make your fursona? I'm thinking of making one and idk where to start any and all tips are welcome.

Some people pick an animal they think is cool. Some choose an animal that they feel a particular spiritual connection to. And some choose the animal that most closely resembles their personality.

For me it was a mix of "hey this species is cool" and "I can see myself as this animal". If I'm stuck between two different animals, I just combine them. I also just go for colour pallets and themes that I think work well together to represent something about myself and go from there.

for example... let's say that a person likes the following:

favourite colours: warm, earthy red tones
themes/hobbies/interests: travelling, taxidermy, cactus gardening, DIY crafts, cooking, indie music
personality traits: extroverted, energetic, scatterbrained, likes spicy food
favourite animals: rabbit, raccoon

so... let's try hybridizing the rabbit and the raccoon. maybe we have a raccoon with long ears and rabbit feet? the cacti, spicy foods and warm earthy tones give me the impression that this hypothetical person likes desert aesthetics. this can be shown in the fursona's colour scheme, we can make them a sandy brown with warm ochre-red stripes.

this person also likes travel, DIY and indie music. this gives me a hippie/alternative vibe, maybe the fursona would wear a tie-dyed shirt? cool, so what if this raccoon-rabbit travels around the desert in a mini van selling homemade chilli sauces to people at music festivals? and decorates the inside of their van with potted cacti and succulents. the person likes taxidermy as well, and raccoons are known for collecting things, so maybe this fursona also wears bone jewellery?

And there we have it, Pepper the Hippie Racconrabbit, this person's new fursona. 		BlackStatic

I usually base it off my favorite animal, the animal's personality compared to mine, and certain traits.

Though, you can pick any animal you want! Everything is up to you :] let your creativity flow!

There's many ways someone decides on a fursona species.

A lot of them decide just on their favorite animal. Some may choose an animal local to them as a sort of homage to their roots (for example, the U.S. has state animals so they may decide to make their fursona their state animal). Some may select a species based on their personality (like selecting a coyote/fox because they are pranksters or selecting a horse because they like to be busy).

I specifically went with a deer. Deer are beautiful. They live in my area, and the species fits with my natural southern accent.

i went with a plushie because i love sitch themed characters and my fursona never had a distinct species so i went with, generic feline stuffed 		fruityloopsz
