what if depending on the different type of water the eggs are incubating in, the wyverns are slightly different (salt water being the biggest / hardier and the fresh water being the soft / smaller ones? ) |

there'd be 2 incubating pools then, one above a spring that contains warmer salt water and the other is just cool fresh water - the warmth of the salt water also helps harden scales and teeth and horns. bigger ones are more suited to gliding across long distances while the softer/smaller wyverns are more like waves in the ocean - generally more playful and faster, dipping and diving in the air |

and if crossbreeding is a thing, earth + water wyvern? fucking amphibious. can blend into the mud. grow like frogs do, starting as tadpoles. they get their wings later on in life. love the water but also love the land. m u d w y v e r n s. |

if that's the case, perhaps some of the ancient dragons carved out huge systems beneath the surface, sort of like ants? perhaps it could be the earth dragons (if we add them)? |

and basically, everywhere a dragon's cave that correlates specifically to a certain element, an ancient one died there. hidden in the water beneath eggs and with skeletal wings holding the adol cave together, the remains of an old water dragon shaped the area. the stepstones in lava pools - spikes of a fire dragon. the main adol cave, where bigger dragons spend their time? the gaping maw of the fire wyvern. storm is a little different. it covers the top of the nesting cavern, water dripping down skeletal spines with wings cradling the tree trunk. in the adol cave, parts of them are hidden in the floating islands, keeping them alight with the helps of vines. the parts that aren't hidden lay on the ground - hide and seek for the youngest of the adols. ice is also different, it was the wyvern's breath that formed the ice tunnel - a stream of ice so large it could hold eggs and adult dragons. its body forms the curving and sweeping adol cave, bones encased in ice with again - its large head housing whatever dragons can fit. |
