(Answered) Are Hunting Trail Sizes Random?

TL;DR: Are the size of hunting trails random or determined by synergy?

I figured it was the latter, that was until today. I changed one of my hunting party wolves to a level 1 without any experience - so it brought the synergy down. And yet I've gotten 2 hunts today where it was nothing but 1 large scent trail. That's really bad since I haven't even caught a medium prey yet and my party is getting their HP butchered from these larger prey.

So is it just RNG screwing me over today or? I've rarely gotten large trails as is so I have no idea if this is normal lol.

More than synergy, iirc it's about your stalker proficiency and stats. And of course the biome difficulty comes in, so in more difficult biomes, it's more difficult to find bigger preys.

If your stalker is very good, there higher chances he finds bigger scents. And of course, there is a RNG part in it

Huh, that's strange then. I swapped my finisher, and almost nothing else has changed - biome's the same, levels haven't increased since yesterday, etc. I guess a couple points of stalker proficiency + RNG are just determining it today.

I didn't realize biome affected it like that though, so that's definitely good to know before I change biomes later on lol. Thanks for letting me know!
