Difficulty winning fights against low level ‘befriend’ wolves

Hey, has anyone else noticed that it’s almost impossible to win against low level ‘befriend’ wolves, even though you don’t have any issue winning against wolves of the same level that don’t have the ‘befriend’ option?

The wolves I’ve fought are marked as level 2, but it feels like fighting a wolf that’s level 8 or higher. 

I have the same impression, although I haven't exactly been counting. Some enemy types are tougher than others, so maybe the "befriend" wolves are counted as a different enemy type than the timber wolves?
