Add Rule Reminder to Sidebar Chat

Add Rule Reminder to Sidebar Chat

Hello friends. For those of us who hang out in Main Chat regularly, I'm sure you've seen our lovely mods give warnings about discussing (alluding to, referencing, suggesting, whatever word is your favorite) sales and raffles in main chat. Sometimes I'll see multiple warnings in a day, usually for newer players, but many people seem to forget about this rule. My suggestion is to have a permanent rule reminder notice on top of the sidebar chat, similar to how the full-sized Chat Room displays-

Here is an example of what it may look like. The text in red is the exact text copied from the Chat Room rule reminder. (names censored for privacy)

An alternative to this addition is requiring each user to have read the Code of Conduct (as in, each user must manually press a button that states "I have read and understood the Code of Conduct") , as it discusses this rule and includes that you may receive a punishment for breaking the rule.

Our kind mods rarely enforce this rule with punishments, but that doesn't mean it isn't a punishable rule. According to the CoC language, it is entirely possible to have your account permanently banned for forgetting that it's against the rules to offhandedly mention a trade or raffle or linking your stud in main chat, and that would be terribly unfortunate.

Thank you for your time and for considering my suggestion. Have a good day.

Hmm...I think a permanent reminder would be a bit overkill. Once you know the rule, you don't really need a big reminder in red every time you see the chat. I feel like most people who break the rule do it by accident (e.g., they're expressing frustration that a wolf isn't selling, and the mods are like "Please do not allude to ongoing trades, as it can be seen as advertising." but they weren't meaning to advertise).

But a one-time alert for new players would be nice. I do see a lot of new players asking for wolves/food/meds because they don't know it's not allowed in main. Maybe something like this, that you have to click to gain access to the chat:

I support the idea of having the chat rules be more visible, but not exactly the way it's laid out in the example - the red text is a little too eye catching and is kind of distracting hehe. I get that's the point but if you're seeing that every time you have chat open it's gonna get annoying quick, whereas on the chat tab there's more space for it so it isn't causing quite as large a chunk.

I like Lionel's idea as it allows the user to dismiss the rules, but having it only appear once at the very start of the game is going to lead a lot of players to just skip it or forget as time goes on. Maybe the user has to dismiss the notification more often, like whenever they try to chat after they roll over? I think you can access chat from the RO page though so it wouldn't appear for people chatting without rolling, so maybe just a 24h timer would work

I do think having the rules be more visible would help a lot for people, as right now you can only really learn what the rules are by making mistakes or going to the actual chat tab, which isn't intuitive (god knows I had no idea about it until a few months post-launch )

I also like Lionel's idea better, its interactive and its less in the way than a permanent notice. A 24hr timer may be a little overkill, maybe once a month or every 3 months or something may be less imposing on the player.
The visibility of the rules is mostly what I'm going for here with this suggestion- it's good for the playerbase to be aware of the rules without being afraid they'll make a mistake.
