Pherris / Volukros War

Pherris / Volukros War

Today I came across an encounter in the Dreamlands Glacier that I've never seen or heard of before.

I elected to choose Risk, and gained 4 LT from the encounter. ()

This is really interesting. I'm assuming this encounter is Glacier-exclusive, as the encounter with the Pherris Automaton is... I also seem to get a lot of Pherris wolf and feline marauder encounters here.

As I'm sure a lot of you have noticed, the Pherris wolves have... very hand-like paws, probably useful for crafting and forging. I've also had a few of them drop iron scraps upon defeat. I assume this implies that the Pherris wolves are crafting the Pherris Automatons somehow, probably in this forge...

Why do they need an army? What are they planning?

I got this same interaction, but instead I chose 'Check surroundings'

"There's no need to risk too much. Pherris Warriors could appear at any moment, and it would be impossible to escape from the center of their territory. Instead up inspecting the area deeper, you decide to check the surroundings carefully. The small hiding spot you find was difficult to discover with all this snow around, but it was worth the stress. You take everything and run off before anyone could detect an intruder."
You got +3! (And a Pherris rolling ball.)

That's interesting. So the Pherris wolves are definitely some sort of organized militia. Wonder who they're fighting.

Found the same sort of interaction in the rainforest, but it's the Volukros version! Either the two are like warring street gangs, or they've teamed up to create some sort of organized lunar militia. The gay shopkeepers are their main source of currency. The blue market, and us wolves are innocently playing into the terrifying raccoon-looking paws of that one shopkeeper. Trust no one.

Update! I found the same encounter that WallFlower spoke of.

Here's what happened when I chose Risk:

Not as lucky as I was with the Forge, it seems.

This does seem to be the Volukros equivalent of the Forge encounter. Considering they are found in the two very opposite sides of the map, and since a lot of the Pherris and Volukros enemy encounters are named things like Scout or Marauder, I think I'm inclined to believe the Volukros creatures and the Pherris creatures are at war with each other.

Just to add to the logs here, here's what happens if you risk and fail at the Forge:

And here's what happens if you check surroundings, as WallFlower said:

I just wanna state I'm so surprised how much lore is put into Wolvden. So much secrets do discover, and I'm glad the developers left some mystery for us.

I feel like I'm missing something lmao-I'm not sure how there being camps for Ferris and Volukros creatures neccesearly mean they are at war with eachother. What if instead they are actively working together or creating an army against us, the earthly invaders to their precious realm?
