Scouted Biomes Reset Upon Leader Change???

Posted 2020-09-27 16:50:30

Something I came up with to fix this issue (Not really but it's just a tini suggestion-)

Maybe instead of getting rid of all the zones when your lead dies, depending on the zone you started to play on, an explore section will stay open (Example shown on the linked pic above, forest keeps zone 3, grasslands keeps zone 2 and mountain keeps zone 1)

Or it can be completely random no matter which place you stayed at, but you can still retain one of the explore lands even after your wolf dies

I like Gauva's suggestion. It makes sense that the the two adjacent biomes would be easier to access (If I was in the deciduous forest, the grasslands and lets say coniferous forest could be my easy scout placements. So like, if you choose to scout the grasslands, that is the easiest while the coniferous forest is now a two like the prairie

Scouting isnt too bad, it's a good way to get stats and items. Reunlocking biomes wont be too bad since stats effects it, all the wolves just have low stats rn.

Also, Xylax, with the soothsayer icon.. that response was so un-needlessly ominous I love it.

This thread has been an interesting read but the Xylax response really made it.

Here's a way to word it I think, based on Xylax's response, that might help people understand:

Your scouting progress on the map isn't what your pack knows. It's what your lead wolf knows. So if a new wolf comes in who doesn't know the land, they're going to have to send new scouts. By the time you have a second lead wolf, your scout(s) should have enough stats to quickly re-discover areas without a lot off fuss. It isn't that the pack members forget it at all, its that the lead wolf doesn't know those areas and needs wolves to re-scout them for changes, differences, etc.

I do think a compromise will be worthwhile - the one above is good. Or perhaps just have scouts who have already scouted those areas discover them much faster. Maybe a scout that previously explored it to 100% gets a boost in how quickly they explore it the next time. Any new scout sent out doesn't know the area and would have to re-learn it.

But it's not your lead wolf who discovers new territories, it's your scouts. If it was your lead wolf I'd take that, but it isn't.

I think, if anything were changed about this, a certain percentage of progress could be kept (Dependent upon previous wolf's age, maybe? Or based on incoming wolf's intelligence?) just to simulate things like information that may have been known to the wolf based on previous intel or experience they received before they took the reins. But I am A-OK with keeping it like it is, too. It admittedly does sting, but it gives us something to work up from. :) If we had everything "one and done" style then end game would come quickly.

From a gameplay side i actually don't mind the needing to rescout like i thought i would when i originally heard about it in beta. i think it's also important to remember that by the time your lead wolf dies and you have to pick a new one, it's likely that you're going to have scouts that are more experienced than when you first started. Your initial ones may have died off, but you've probably started with new ones and they'll have more stats and be more proficient, so i think having to scout the same areas won't take quite as long as when we first started :o

I also think it would be kinda boring and make scouting not super useful if it never reset :(

Or at the very least - drop the extra biome explores by 25%... it encourages you to continue to use your scouts to re-learn the territory to report to the nea leader any changes.. but...

Why not reset a portion when a scout dies or is reassigned to another pack duty? That would keep scouting relevant.
