~The Wolfpack~

Posted 2022-03-21 08:53:25
Lavender Mist sits and curls her tail around her paws. She looks into the sky, mesmerised of the evening time's beauty. Amber skies and flickering sunlight... Her glowing purple eyes squint, as she yawns and settles lower. Her body shivers a bit as she gazes on the pair of pups.

Shaking off all bad memories along with the dust on her fur, Lavender Mist stretches her paws and heads to a warmer place, which took her a few steps as she falls on the ground once again, a light wind rushing through her colourful coat. Instead of squinting, this time her eyes closed fully and she quickly fell asleep, making quiet, satisfied sounds.

{OOC} - Feel free to wake her up, I'd love an interaction!

Liesel, feeling a bit hot in the sun, stepped into her den. It was rather disorganized, and she spent a bit picking up things in her maw and setting them in certain areas. Sometimes she would leave the dent to set things into others, such as herbs or left over bones that could be used for things later. Once she was finished, the den looked spotless, other than her and her mates mat of leaves and soft grass that they slept on when they were together.

She wondered where he was, probably hunting or running around , she thought. He was always trying to help, going with the pack to do things even if it left him exhausted. She padded over to the mouth of the den, sitting and looking over their main camp territory. She didn't see many wolves, but wanted to make sure she was in sight in case anyone was in need of her assistance. She could hear the baby beaver stumbling around in the den behind her, but she left her to her own devices.

She wasn't quite sure about the beaver just yet, but if they packed like it, then she would also. Liesal was always wary and nervous, getting jittery at the worst possible times. She was going to be a hunter before realizing she got to nervous to hunt properly. Since then she spent most of her time at camp, running errands for others or keeping the camp in shape, and that was when she met her now mate.

Arcadia stood from his placement on the med den floor, quietly exiting the den. He would have a slight limp from his left leg, the large clotted gash still very much visible. He adjusted his focus towards the center of their den area before slightly limping towards his den. He flopped on the floor just outside of his den, laying his head on his right paw, leaving his left leg alone to rest. He slept in the patch of sunlight just outside of his den.

Lavender Mist moves her tail, sniffs the air and wakes up. She stands up way before opening her eyes, it's just an instant habit. The female's fur warms in the dappled sunlight, as she resists the urge to rest more. Pack chores are more important, she sighs. Well, Lavender Mist begins to pad into the green dwelling, already imagining her way to the rainforest.

All her thoughts are interrupted by a bear's roar. That felt.. large. Just as Lavender Mist thinks that, she spots a big brown figure... She begins to press closer to the ground to remain unnoticed during to her low strength, more of very high speed and a really agile body. Careful, careful...

A twig of betrayal cracks under her dark blue paws. Time to switch that crawl into a.. RUN! The bear spots her and begins to nearly dash her direction, stomping menacingly.
"Ahha, you ain't getting me!"
Lavender Mist looks at the bear and slows down to irritate it. As soon as the larger predator comes closer, she dashes off, looking back. Better have looked in front of her, as she nearly steps on a bear cub. Ohhh, that's real trouble. The wolf looks behind herself, as the maternal bear chases her in an aggressive run Lavender Mist couldn't overpower. So here, agility steps in.

The wolf tries to lurk behind a tree, without getting spotted by the bear. A few oaks, and she feels safe! Feels... Her victorious sigh gave her away, and the large mother, in successful attempts to oversmart Lavender Mist, quietly walks behind her.
The she-wolf slightly turns, and the last thing she saw before getting hardly hit away nearly flying by a large paw was the raged face of a bear.

Luckily, the mother gets distracted by a kingfisher, holding 3 of the bear's favourite snack: salmon. It looks back, ensuring her cubs are safe and begins to chase the bird.

Lavender Mist lifts her head slightly, before once again falling unconscious.

After about ten minutes of chasing leaves and turning over rocks on the outer edge of camp, Yuli had become so unbelievably bored that when she saw Lavender Mist saunter by out of camp she threw caution to the wind. Nudging her sister with her back foot, stirring Quiet out of her reverie watching rainbow beetles, Yuli followed Lavender Mist at a distance. Thankfully when the bear turned up Yuli and Quiet had had the common sense to dive under a thorn bush and watch from there. Eventually when the bear had chased Lavender Mist far enough to where all the pups heard was the distant sound of crunching underbrush, the crawled out of their hiding spot.
At this point Yuli was reconsidering her decision to come out here and was questioning the scout wolves noses. How they hadnt noticed the presence of a grizzly so close was beyond her. And yet Quiet was wondering all the while if Lavender Mist was okay. She started wandering off into the general direction of the bear sized path that had been left. "Quiet where are you going?"
  "To check on her."
  "You know thats dangerous right?"
  Quiet kept walking.
Yuli huffed and started pitter pattering after her sister, silently working their way down the beaten path.
When they reached the clearing with the creek, the first thing they saw was Lavender Mist on her side. There was no sign of the bears and their scent was quickly fading but it was still to strong for comfort. Quiet quickly bounded over to the she-wolf, nudging her side with her nose, then a paw. "Is she ok?" She asked in a low voice. Yuli shrugged her small shoulders and settled herself next to the biggest female. "Lets wait and see if she wakes up." She positioned herself so her nose was close to Lavender Mist's. She could feel her wet breath on her face. At least she was breathing.

Rhew paces across the forest floor, following the tracks of the bear she'd spotted yesterday. If that bear came closer to the hunting grounds, it wouldn't be fun. Obviously with a team of five they should certainly be able to chase it off but it'd be a pain to hunt around. Or if Citrine got too close to it's tracks.... or a scout. Surely they'd be alright, most were fairly agile.

A few minutes passed before the tracks became clear but the scent wasn't terribly fresh, trotting along she spotted two pups run out ahead of her. Speeding up, she caught Lavender Mist's scent and huffed slightly, a small frown crossing her face. Skidding slightly on the muddy ground she sent a sharp growl at the two pups, telling them to move back. Lavender Mist was on the ground, still breathing but probably unconscious. A quick glance to the area showed fairly clearly what happened, wolf tracks running behind the trees before the more heavy bear tracks. Then a skid of paws, leading to where Lavender Mist was lying.

"Yuli, Quiet, what are you doing out here? You know you can't just leave, especially not after a scout. If she was going any faster, you two would've been lost." Rhew nudged the pair of troublemakers back, running a quick check over Lavender Mist's body. Limited medical knowledge absolutely but being a hunter did give you some idea of how you could be injured. The bear's smell and tracks were still too strong for these pups to be around and if Rhew carried Lavender Mist back with the bear still close that may not end well. She sighed, glancing the way the bear had left before looking back at the two pups. "Why did you leave the camp? I get it's boring but surely you know better!"

Quiet hung her head, refusing to meet Rhew's stern eyes. Sharp repremands always made her eyes sting and her nose burn, but she was too stubborn to cry in front of an adult. Yuli on the other hand stared Rhew down, even if she had no real argument. "Nobody came around to give us our lessons today. Besides, we were worried about Lavender Mist." She explained lamely. They were genuinely worried about the she-wolf though, neither of the girls ever wanted to see a pack member hurting. Quiet layed down in submission, lowering her ears as an apology, and Yuli scraped the dirt with a small paw nervously. She hoped they wouldnt be punished. They had left the camp before, but she knew following a bear fight was definitely pushing the limits of leniency.

Rhew sighed, ears pinned halfway. "I'll talk to Addfain, see what was meant to be happening. Highly unlikely you'll be let off free however, best be prepared to be stuck in camp for a while. I'm going to bring her back, you two stay close. Don't go running off again and if you hear, see or smell that bear coming back you need to tell me and then run back to camp. Alright?" She replied, honestly feeling a little bad for them. Sure the hunter was much older but she certainly got scolded many a time from Addfain and the others after trying to sneak off and hunt. But with a bear around the pups needed to be safe, especially a mother bear.

Yuli nodded slowly in understanding. "Yes ma'am." She said in a mildly annoyed tone. She never meant to be disrespectful, really she didn't, but she desperately needed to be mentally stimulated. Being stuck within the small area called base camp was hard for two young pups. Quiet stuck close to Rhew's side as she worked to get Lavender Mist back to camp, but Yuli lingered a little behind, staying just within sight. She snuffled the ground and admired the flowers, even snatching one up and putting it behind Quiet's ear at one point. She said nothing, just gave her sister a smile and a small nod, showing her appreciation for the gesture. Quiet's....quietness was something nobody had ever really figured out, whether it was just disposition or something else it was rather odd for a pup to be so reserved. She really only spoke around Yuli and even that was rare, preferring to communicate through body language instead. It wasn't anything that crippled her, she was rather good at observing things that needed to be done and then doing them without being asked.

Rhew hid a shudder. "ma'am" was horrible, she wasn't that old. Bringing Lavender Mist back up the slope to the pack, Addfain came padding around the corner, frowning. "Have you seen- Yuli! Quiet! Where did you two rush off to, hmm?" Her eyes flicked up to Lavender Mist and the scent of bear that clung around the group. She huffed in annoyance at the recklessness of the pups, stepping aside to let Rhew bring the scout forward. "Go take her to Citrine. And keep an eye on her, make sure she keeps breathing steadily and doesn't try move around too soon incase something is broken!" She told the hunter who just nodded, eager to be away from her scolding tone.

Looking down at the pups, Addfain let out a displeased grumble. The small flower behind Quiet's ear almost made her smile but these two were not going to be let off too kindly. "You two are getting older but you clearly still need to learn to be patient. Perhaps that will be our lesson for today. But please, why did you think it was a good idea to run off after a scout?"
