Breeding male age up?

So I'm wanting to switch out my breeding male. I have a Mel pup that I want to switch him too. Does making the pup my breeding male age him up to breeding age or am I not able to select him at all?

I don't want go through the process and stop it at the last second and accidentally waste my GC

They would age up to 1 year old.

I'm not sure you can choose a pup as your breeding male and have him aged up. That happens with lead wolf, but I don't think it's the same with breeding males.

If we look at the Grouse House Breeding guide, the game asks you to choose an adult wolf for the breeding male role. And they say you can't choose a pup or adol.

You can still try, since I think removing a breeding male and selecting a new one are two different process. First you remove your breeding male by paying GC. Then, whenever you want, you select a new one (for free if you are not still in the breeding male cooldown). So you should be able to remove your actual BM now and wait a few days for your mela pup to grow up without messing up or wasting GC.
If you want to age him up quickly, you can use an aging crystal on him when he reach adolescence (doesn't work on pups).
