New Role Suggestion: Warrior/Vanguard

New Role Suggestion: Warrior/Vanguard

So I came up with a new pack role, and I named it Warrior/Vanguard. The purpose of this role is to have more pack members engage in your Leader's activities and to facilitate stat gain, especially in packs with large populations.

What is a Warrior?
  • Warriors are, in simple terms, "fighting buddies". They participate in NPC battles alongside your Leader and influence how the battle proceeds to a limited extent.
  • A Warrior may be assigned to each unlocked biome, and they exclusively participate in battles that happen in that biome. The total number of Warriors in a pack depends on the territory slots, but there can not be more than 12 active Warriors at once (1 for each biome).
  • The Warrior role favors wolves with high stats in Strength, Agility, and Smarts. (I hope this specific set will diversify stat distribution in wolves, as opposed to right now, where Chaser wolves almost exclusively come from Chaser lines.)
Battling with Warriors
  • Warriors can perform two actions in battle: Attack and Block.
  • Right after your Leader's move, the Warrior has a chance for an Attack dice roll and inflict additional damage on the opponent.
  • Right after the opponent's dice roll, the Warrior has a chance to jump in and Block the attack, taking damage instead of the Leader.
  • The Warrior gains Exp at the end of a battle. The specifics are up to the Admins, but say the Warrior always gains 50% of the Leader's points. So if your leader gets 200 points, the Warrior gets 100. The Warrior's Exp gain does not influence the Leader's Exp.
  • A Warrior may gain an illness (Open Wound, Infection, etc) after fighting, especially if they run out of Health Points during the battle.

How Stats Affect Role Performance
  • Proficiency influences how likely a move by a Warrior will be successful.
  • Strength influences the amount of damage a Warrior may deal in one turn. The upper limit to the amount of damage increases as Strength increases. (For example, a Warrior with 100 Strength may deal up to 2 points per turn, and a Warrior with 300 Strength may deal up to 4 points.)
  • The Warrior's Agility influences damage they take as they Block an attack. Higher Agility means less damage.
  • Warriors with high Smarts gets a boost for nullifying the opponent's attack. That means no damage to the Leader or the Warrior.

Miscellaneous Information (Open to Suggestions)
  • When a pack experiences leadership change, all Warriors assigned to previously unlocked biomes are inactivated, though they keep their Warrior role and may be reassigned to a biome when you unlock them. The in-game explanation could be along the lines of "Warriors assigned to various biomes have returned home to protect the new Leader and help them adjust to the new role."
  • Suggested by Scottie #53718: A "Howl" button that consumes energy and summons the Warrior in the biome during a fight sequence.
  • I am debating whether Warriors should participate in Lunar Event battles, since the Leader is technically dreaming. Let me know what you guys think.

Would the warriors follow your leader when they explore?
~If so, may I suggest that there would be a "howl" button on the explore page that spends the same amount of energy, and summons the warrior to your side
~If not (or even if so), maybe a move in battle would be howl, which would bring the warrior into things?

I don't think that the warriors should be in lunar events, given the dreaming aspect

Support!

This is a really interesting idea! I have added it to the post.

Maybe the "Howl" option could be a first move option along with choices like "Chase" and "Lunge"? The leader sacrifices the opening initiative in exchange for extra support. Not sure how this will impact the other, opponent-specific moves though.

I like the sound of the warrior role. Useful for having more realistic battles since wolves don't usually fight alone anyway. They are about strength in numbers. Thats why they live in packs.
