Pet Share!

Posted 2020-10-03 12:43:20 (edited)

I just love how this Thread was started with some fur-potatoes. I also have some. They bring so much joy into my life and I can't imagine living without piggies ever again.

This is Batman! He's the neutered male of my herd, from a rescue, and about 5 years old. His favorite food are sunflower-seeds and he sometimes allows me to pet his nose (in exchange for favorite snacks, that is.)

These two girls here are Kalista Kartoffel (the black one on the left, turns 3 in a week, from a breeder) and Muffin (the "exploded" guineapig on the right, from a rescue, about 4 and a half years old). Kali is a little scaredy pig that totally despises touches. Muffin is also quite shy around humans, but often a little bossy around her herd.

This is Freya. She was born in March this year, and I got her from a breeder. My little baby is so big and chunky already!! ♥

And she's so curious (and kinda annoying - whenever I try to clean the enclosure, she always tries to jump onto the dustpan...)

She was soooo tiny when I got her!

Before I got Freya, there was my beloved old girl, Pina. I just can't write this message without mentioning her. She passed in March at around 6 and a half years because of heart failure. I miss her so much. qwq

She was amazing and she actually liked being pet. Most of the time - whenever she didn't want to be pet, she pushed my hand away with her head just like she would've tried chasing away another annoying guinea pig.

All of you guys have very cute pets ♥

As of now, I have six cats.

Oliver

I got Oliver in 2015 as a small kitten, too young to be away from his mother. His story is too long to tell here. He is named after the main character in Oliver and Company. He's my oldest cat (only five), and my best friend. Fun fact: I met both Oliver's mother and grandmother.

Stella

I found Stella in 2016. I wasn't in a great place in my life then, and I really couldn't afford another cat. She was outside, and I watched her for months. On my way home from work, I would feed her cat food. I had to sit with her, or the other strays bullied her and took the food. She was so small, I estimated her age wrong. On the very first day of snow that year, she followed me to my door for the first time. I brought her inside. She was scared at first, but got used to Oliver and inside life. I took her to a vet, who told me she had asthma and pneumonia. I think the vet could tell I was struggling financially, because when she came back with the bill, several of Stella's services were marked as $0, with the word "discount." She did the same thing for me every time I brought Stella back for more treatment. Stella is happy and healthy now.

Jack & Sadie

Jack is the black and white cat, and Sadie is the tabby. I was contacted in 2019 about two feral kitten siblings who were born out in the woods, far away from town, near the farms. I was just meant to socialize them, then they would go back and get adopted. They came to me in a live trap, terrified and dirty. Obviously, no one ever came back to get them. It was rough at first. They really were completely feral. I had to give them their own area. Every night when the other household members were asleep, I'd sit in front of them with wet kitten food and baby food, waiting. First they ate off spoons, then my finger. Fast forward to now, and they're completely loving the indoor life. They've even gotten a bit chubby. They both love being carried, especially Sadie. They do not like strangers though, and hide under my bed when someone comes over.

Luna

I found Luna and her brother, Draco, outside my current apartment. I moved here in late 2018. I noticed them outside early into 2019, and discovered they 'belonged' to the neighbor. At first, I thought they were inside and outside cats. Later on, the neighbor mentioned that they had kicked the cats outside. They said that they got the cats as a gift for their kids, but once the cats aged enough and still hadn't been fixed, they began marking in the house. (They mentioned refusal to use litter boxes, but I feel that wasn't true, considering Luna and Draco didn't have even one accident in my house.) I was already feeding all the neighborhood strays at this point, so I started feeding them too. I made shelters for all the cats, because it was getting colder. Most of the cats had places they could get into to stay warm, though. Many houses in my area have sheds, garages, and enclosed porches with no doors on them, or big holes. Luna and Draco however, would not go into any of those places. They just hung around both mine and the neighbors' porches, crying to be let in. One day, it was just too cold - way below freezing - and I let them come into my sunroom. The 'sunroom' attached to my apartment is a weird added-on room that is more like an enclosed porch, but the previous tenant had completely wrecked it. It was already full of mice and bugs, and I felt animals could get in if they tried, anyway. They stayed in there, with a bed and a heater, until I got them fixed. They got used to it here immediately. I had Luna's ear examined at a new vet I had never been to, and they said she needed to have an operation scheduled that day, even though the doctor barely looked in her ear. I took her to another vet for a second opinion, and they gave me some ear drops for what turned out to just be a highly infected ear. It cleared up right away, and she never needed surgery. I'm so glad I got that second opinion, and now only see the vet who diagnosed her properly. Luna is very sweet, and sleeps right next to my head every night. She jumps onto the shoulders/back of anyone who walks in the door

Draco

You can see Draco's story above, in his sister Luna's section. He is a unique cat for sure. He follows me to every room in the house. Every time I shower, he tries to stop me, even going so far as to grab me with claws and try to pull me out. When he fails, he runs through the house, going to every human and screaming at them, as if letting them know he couldn't stop me from getting in.

The cats all get along very well, and I'm at a point in my life now where I can afford to have all of them. One of my favorite parts about having six cats is probably how every morning, without fail, every single one follows me into the bathroom.
